Today, we’re taking you into the kitchen of Vahaal.
The kitchen brings together warm wood, soft white cabinets and olive green tiles. The brass handles add a little bling, while the herringbone pattern keeps the backsplash from being just another tiled wall.

We wanted the kitchen to feel like it belonged to the rest of the home, with the same warmth, colours and little details that make Vahaal what it is. And of course, it had to be a kitchen that works just as well as it looks!
Let’s take a closer look.
Kitchen of Vahaal
At just 9’11” x 7’1″, the kitchen of Vahaal isn’t very big, so we had to make every inch count.
The layout keeps everything within easy reach, with the hob and chimney on one side and the sink and prep area on the other. But the clever bit is something you might not even notice on the plan!
We wanted a dishwasher, but there simply wasn’t enough room for one in the kitchen. So we worked out a way to fit part of it into the adjoining bathroom, making use of the space available there.

Sometimes, getting a small kitchen right isn’t about adding more storage or squeezing in more cabinets. It’s about finding a place for everything, even when it takes a little thinking outside the box!
The Hob Wall
The fridge is placed right at the entrance to the kitchen, so it’s easy to grab something without having to walk through the cooking area.
The hob sits along the main counter, with drawers below for pots, pans and cooking essentials, keeping everything close at hand. The cabinets above and on either side make good use of the wall for storage, while the chimney is positioned directly over the hob.

Making Every Inch Count
To the left of the hob, we added a couple of open shelves for the little things a kitchen needs, along with a few quirky pieces that make the space feel more personal. Not everything has to be hidden behind cabinet doors!
And here’s a little behind-the-scenes detail. The drawers below the shelves are actually temporary. We’ve already provided for the plumbing and electrical points needed for a dishwasher, so when our client decides to get one, the drawers can make way for it.
It’s always worth planning for the things you might want later, even if you’re not ready for them just yet.

The Sink Wall
Opposite the hob, we have the sink and a good stretch of counter space for prep work. The drawers and cabinets below take care of storage, while the overhead cabinets make use of the full height of the wall.
You’ll also notice the tall, rolling-shutter unit at the near end. It’s a neat way to tuck away the electronic appliances without breaking up the clean lines of the kitchen. And with the window right above the sink, there’s a little natural light while you’re working at the counter.

Storage That Goes the Extra Mile
Right by the kitchen entrance, and to the left of the rolling shutter, we have a tall unit that packs in two useful features.
The microwave is built right into the unit, keeping it off the counter and freeing up precious workspace. Below it, there’s a pantry unit for storing groceries and kitchen essentials, all tucked neatly out of sight.
It’s a small kitchen, so every bit of counter space we can save makes a difference. And having the microwave and pantry together in one tall unit helps keep things neat without sacrificing storage. 😊

Look closely at the bottom drawer of the base unit and you’ll spot another little detail. It’s perforated to allow ventilation, making it the perfect place to store onions and potatoes.
The Overall Look
The kitchen is compact, but we didn’t want it to feel like a plain little box.
The warm walnut cabinets at the bottom balance the soft white shutters above, while the olive green tiles bring in a bit of colour. The green also ties the kitchen back to the rest of Vahaal, where it appears in different ways throughout the home.

The light grey countertop keeps things light, and the patterned floor adds another layer of detail. Brass handles finish off the look, picking up the warmth of the wood.
It’s a mix of simple colours, warm materials and a few details that make it feel like Vahaal. Nothing too fancy, just a kitchen that feels right at home here.
A Little Kitchen, Lots to Love
And that’s a wrap on the kitchen of Vahaal! From making the most of every inch to finding clever ways to fit in everything our client needed, this little kitchen was quite the puzzle to put together.
We hope you enjoyed this little peek into the details that make it work. 😊
