Designing a girl’s bedroom is always a delicate dance between function, comfort, and a quiet kind of joy. The girl’s room of Kai needed to reflect a young girl’s evolving needs — a place to sleep, to study, to dream, and to grow.

We imagined it as a soothing cocoon — mature enough to grow into gracefully, yet whimsical enough to still feel like childhood.

Girl’s Room of Kai – Layout

The room is laid out thoughtfully to balance openness with usability. As you enter, the wardrobe runs along the left wall, offering ample storage without dominating the space. The bed is centered along the longer wall, flanked by a compact bedside table. On the other end, natural light flows in from the full-length window beside the study table. It’s a lovely little corner for focus and quiet work.

On the opposite wall, the dresser and pouf fit neatly along the far wall, rounding off a plan that is both efficient and intuitive for daily life.

This room was about more than just getting the layout right. It was about carving out a personal haven that would feel just right at every stage of growing up.

A Soft and Soulful Retreat for a Young Mind

Stepping into this bedroom feels like entering a serene storybook. Guided by a palette of powder blue, ivory, and walnut, this space is layered with soft geometry, playful elegance, and just enough whimsy to reflect its young occupant’s bright personality.

The layout follows a highly efficient and functional plan, allowing each wall to serve a purpose. As you walk in, the bed greets you first. It is an upholstered statement piece with a custom Ikat print headboard that adds both comfort and visual rhythm. Flanking the bed are a bedside table and a study. But your eye quickly travels to the pretty butterflies on the wall beyond.

Towards the window, we have a delicate walnut-and-blue study table. It is accented with walnut open shelving and soft-close storage above. The study chair, upholstered in a tight patterned weave, sits elegantly by the window.  Floor-length sheers with a subtle trellis print invite diffused light while maintaining privacy.

Just adjacent to the window sits a dreamy dresser corner. A mirrored storage wall extends vertically, making the space appear twice its size. A narrow counter ledge in white finishes the vanity. A checked upholstered stool adds a bit of whimsy to the space.

Opposite the bed, a full-height wardrobe with classic moulding offers ample storage. Painted in a creamy off-white with glass handles, the unit anchors the room with calm presence and subtle symmetry.

Every corner of this room celebrates quiet beauty—from the trio of butterfly wall accents to the thoughtful alignment of furniture. The design feels fresh yet timeless, playful yet composed—much like the young girl it was created for.

Colour, Texture and Finish: A Space That Feels Like Her

The colour story of this bedroom is a dreamy blend of whites and blues, a palette chosen for its calm sophistication and its timeless appeal. Against a backdrop of soft ivory walls, a powder blue painted wainscoting runs horizontally across the room, subtly demarcating the headboard wall and anchoring the design visually.

The bed itself is dressed in a woven bedspread in soft powder tones, which echoes the pastel palette without ever feeling matchy. The upholstered headboard is the room’s pièce de résistance. Its sculpted form and Ikat-inspired fabric create a rhythmic backdrop, rich in texture but still light on the eye. Layered cushions in varying shades and textures—knit, velvet, and cotton—add depth and warmth.

We continued the gentle blue story through the rest of the room—right down to the blue study table and matching chair. Both are custom-made to be functional without disrupting the aesthetic. Above, white and walnut storage niches sit light and balanced, offering both closed and open shelving for a mix of books, display and essentials.

The wardrobe was designed to feel classic and grounded—white panelled shutters with delicate brass and glass handles elevate the storage without dominating the space. We chose clean lines and full-height design to maximise storage and maintain visual calm.

At the foot of the bed, a high-texture indigo and white rug with tribal patterning adds just the right amount of whimsy and edge—grounding the scheme with a sense of tactility and youthful energy.

This is a room designed to grow with her. Soft, feminine, and joyful—but never juvenile. Just like its inhabitant, it’s full of charm, wit, and quiet strength.

Before & After: A Softly Feminine Transformation

This room originally functioned more like a makeshift study space than a serene bedroom. A bold, dark blue sofa dominated the corner, accompanied by a bulky gaming chair and functional—but unstyled—curtains. While practical, the room lacked warmth, softness, and any personal touch that would make it feel like a young girl’s retreat.

Now, the space breathes with freshness and grace. The deep sofa has been replaced by a soft, patterned upholstered bed, layered with sky-toned bedding and textural cushions. The desk, reimagined in blue with a cozy fabric chair, is tucked thoughtfully into the corner. Natural light plays beautifully against sheer, patterned curtains—transforming this once-overlooked room into a dreamy sanctuary.

Storage that Seamlessly Elevates

We replaced the dated laminate wardrobe with a floor-to-ceiling custom design in an ivory paneled finish.

The overhead units now neatly tuck away bulky suitcases, and the brass handles add just a glimmer of sophistication. The room feels taller, brighter, and beautifully coherent—every detail working toward quiet elegance.

Dresser Nook Makeover

The previous dresser wall was plain, clutter-prone, and visually disconnected from the rest of the room. Functional, yes—but uninspiring, with scattered shelving and no clear aesthetic continuity with the space it occupied. It felt more like an office corner than a teenage girl’s serene retreat.

Now reimagined as a refined mirrored dresser nook, the transformation is both stylish and space-enhancing. Tall vertical mirrors bring in light and give the illusion of greater volume. A floating ledge keeps things minimal yet purposeful, while a grid-patterned pouf in soft blue complements the textiles in the room.

The curtain’s delicate trellis print ties it all together, softening the light that filters through and cocooning the space in quiet elegance. A perfect blend of utility and poetry—true to the essence of this bedroom.

Designing a child’s space always holds a special kind of joy, especially when it’s for a young girl in her teens. In the girl’s room of Kai, the intention was to craft a haven that gently straddles playful charm and graceful maturity. Every choice—from the patterned headboard to the powdery blues, from the tactile rug underfoot to the mirrored dresser—was made to create a space that feels soothing, expressive, and enduring.

The girl’s room of Kai is now a quiet celebration of her personality: soft yet confident, pretty yet purposeful. And most importantly, it’s a space that will grow with her.
