Have you searched Google for ‘girly rooms’ lately? This is what you get…
Yes, it’s all pink! What happens if you have a little girl who doesn’t like pink? (My daughter doesn’t!) Isn’t pink really overdone anyways? That picture say it all. Does every girl’s room have to be pink? Do they all have to look the same?
Decor Ideas for Girly Rooms:
No, they don’t! When I think girly, I think soft, sweet, shiny and dreamy… not necessarily pink. So these become obvious steps to making pretty girly rooms.
- Use something soft
- Add something sweet
- And a little bit of something shiny!
There you have it… my rules to making a dreamy girly room!
The good part is, if she really likes pink… if it’s her favourite-st colour in the whole wide world… then you can use these same rules with pink too.
Also, this works for all girls, from newborns, to teens, to… hey, even I want some of this dreamy stuff in my room… my husband would probably have something to say about that though!
So here goes…
(1) Use Something Soft:
Nothing softens up a room better than yards and yards of fabric. And soft is girly, isn’t it?
This is very easy and inexpensive to do. If you don’t want to make it too fancy, just use lengths of plain white fabric… even dupatta material. Make a simple canopy using a ring.
Or just drape some fabric across the bed…
Or behind it!
Add ruffles to the drapes to add to the ‘soft’ look.
Ruffles look really pretty on the bedding too. Add them to your cushion and pillow covers and to bed-covers and bed skirts.
Lace is synonymous with feminine. There are so many ways you can add lace to your room. Get pretty lace cushion covers.
Or add a lace trim to your existing ones.
Lamp shades in lace are gorgeous.
And the light coming from a lace lamp is perfectly dreamy!
Again, if you have an existing lamp, you can just add a lace trim to it and make it all girly-girl!
If you don’t want the actual thing, stencil a lace motif on the wall.
This plain chest of drawers was transformed into this dainty piece, perfect for girly rooms, with a bit of stencil painting and adding pretty knobs.
You can use lace to accessorise too. I love the strips of lace placed across the frame to make this cute jewelry stand. So simple, so pretty!
(2) Add Something Sweet:
Girly rooms need some sweet girly touches to complete them. Here are a few easy to use details that come to mind immediately.
Polka dots are all girl for all ages! Lots of polka dot wall paper is available easily. But you don’t necessarily need to do the full wall in polka dots. Here we have some polka dots floating down the wall.
Polka dot upholstery on furniture is perfect for girly rooms.
Polka dot lamp shades, especially in pastel shades…
This is an easy polka dot DIY. Just paste polka dot cutouts on a Chinese lamp. You could make it multi-coloured or choose one or two colours to go with the scheme of your room.

Pom poms are another easy way to add colour and make a room girly. A pom pom trim, even on plain white curtains, makes them soft and sweet.
Add a pom pom to each corner of your cushion covers.
Or wrap them around all over!
Drape pom pom garlands along curtain rods, or along paintings on the wall.
Or make a simple pom pom wall hanging.
If you are creative and enjoy DIY you can buy packets of pom poms on Amazon. Once you start, I’m sure you’ll think of many more ways to use them.
Feathers are another adorable add on to girly rooms. Dream catchers are always dreamy. You can even use them as mobiles on a baby’s crib.
Feather wall hangings are also delicately pretty.
If you don’t want the real thing, you can use a beautiful feather decal. This one is available here.
(3) And a Little Bit of Something Shiny!
A little bit of glitter to glam up your girl’s room? May be a bit of sequin on the cushion covers?
Or a few glittery hangers hanging near the dressing mirror?
This is one of my faves… gold and silver lettering on the walls.
Spell out your darling’s name.
Or to set a mood for her with a single word…
Or a saying.
Or glam up a single alphabet and monogram her room.
And then there are fairy lights. Forever shining, twinkling and girly! Drape them over the bed.
Or weave them into the canopy.
