Bathroom Design For The Dee Residence

I hope you’ve been enjoying all the spaces we’ve shared so far from the Dee Residence. We wrap up this project on the blog today with all three bathrooms of this home. This entire home was designed from scratch, and this included bathroom design.

We renovated three bathrooms in this home – the master bathroom, our young teen’s bathroom and the powder room. Let me share each with you, one at a time.

Master Bathroom Design

Let us first start with the master bathroom. Here, we made a slight change to the plan.

Originally the entrance door to the bathroom was at the extreme right. This meant we had no space to fit in a basin counter there, and they had only a small basin adjacent to the WC.

By shifting the bathroom door a couple of feet to the left, we freed up the wall to include a full length washbasin counter.

This made a huge difference, both, in terms of space utilisation and aesthetics of this small space.

Earlier, since the basin, WC and shower were all in one line, the shower area was a very narrow one. Because of this, it could not be delineated and so this bathroom did not have separate wet and dry areas.

Since our basin counter went along the entrance wall, we could shift the WC closer towards it and extend the column in the shower area by a few inches to make it wide enough. Though it is still too small to enclose in a cubicle, we gave a step down of an inch there, so that water doesn’t flow into the rest of the bathroom during a shower. This now helps to separate the wet and dry areas in this bathroom.

Master Bathroom Finishes

Since this is a small space, we knew we had to keep the colours light. The Sunshine Master Bedroom is elegant and understated so we decided to go with sophisticated creams for this bathroom too.

As always, we used textures to replace colour. We went with distressed tiles across most of the bathroom. The mirror wall and the shower wall opposite also have a gentle, vintage style pattern on them.

The marble finish wash basin stands out against the plain basin counter. White laminates on all the wood work complete the look.

We have an understated, chic master bathroom that the clients love and we are quite proud of.

Teen Bathroom Design

Next up, is our teen boy’s bathroom.

This one needed a little tweak in the plan too, to make it more useful functionally. Originally, the door to this bathroom was also right against the WC wall. The basin and WC were side by side along the wall opposite the door. Which meant, once again, this bathroom only had a small basin with no counter space.

As you can see, this bathroom isn’t a regular, rectangular space. The door at the back of the shower area leads to the dry area of this home, where we have housed the washing machine.

Once again, we shifted the door away from the wall to be able to fit the WC behind it. This freed up the facing wall for a full length basin counter.

Here we had to make sure that the narrow passage formed by the counter leaves enough space for us to be able to get a washing machine inside, turn it around the corner of the counter and take it back into the dry area.

Teen Bathroom Finishes

This is another small bathroom with one little window which opens into the duct area, meaning it has little natural light.

So we decided to go with whites again, but we wanted these to be more fun and fit for a teenager.

We used three basic finishes here. A marble veined tile that runs across most of the bathroom, a black and white pattern on the highlight walls and the wood finish tiles on the floor and counter.

These randomly patterned tiles are simple, fun and go so well with the grey and white veining of the marble tiles. We used them on the basin wall, just as you enter. A full wall mirror would have covered the tiles entirely, and so we went with a tall, narrow mirror here instead.

We also carried these fun tiles on to the shower area.

The marble veined wash basin, similar to the wall tiles, and the rope pendants in the corner complete the look here.

We have a fun bathroom which is young, yet not childish and will make our teen happy for many years to come.

Powder Bathroom Design

While the previous two bathrooms required minor tweaks in their design this one required a complete rehaul.

If you remember, in the dining area reveal of this home, I mentioned how we had pushed the powder bathroom wall back to create space for the bar area.

This was originally a full sized bathroom, all the way up till the dotted lines on the right. The clients didn’t need three full bathrooms and were happy to have only a powder bathroom here to give them additional space in the living room.

So we pushed the wall all the way back, removed the shower area entirely and created this tiny powder bathroom.

Don’t let the size fool you, though. This one is the most stunning yet!

Powder Bathroom Finishes

This is a teeny tiny space, with an even smaller window and barely any natural light at all. Yet, it doesn’t have to be used for shaving, or putting on make up and so doesn’t require too much light. And so we decided to go dark and dramatic with this little one.

Coppery brown, stone finished tiles run across the entire walls and floor of this space. The floral patterned tiles in black and brown make a stunning highlight wall to leave you mesmerized as you enter the bathroom.

We used a black pedestal marble basin and the tall black mirror to further highlight the height here. The Moroccan lamps on either side add to the ornamented vibe.

When you open the door to enter this bathroom, you can’t help but stop for a second to take it all in.

Before & Afters

Sharing one before and after from each of these makeovers so you can truly delight in the transformation.

The door to the master bathroom was pushed against the wall, giving them only a small basin and a WC next to it.

We moved the door away from the wall, allowing us to fit a full length basin counter there.

Our teen boy’s bathroom, also with the door pushed against the wall.

Moving this door away from the wall allowed us to place the WC behind the door, once again freeing up the basin wall for a full length basin counter.

And finally, the full sized powder bathroom.

We shrunk it in size, removed the shower area, and totally glamourized it!

 

More often than not, the home renovation projects we handle are new builds. They are new homes that have just been handed over by the builder to the home owner with no real requirement to redo the bathrooms and kitchen.

With this project, we got the chance to work on a bathroom renovations after a quite a while. I thoroughly enjoyed working on these and am so proud of the sensational transformations we achieved.
