The last few months have been extremely unusual for most of us. Being locked up in our homes with sometimes nothing and at other times too much to do. I missed meeting friends yet enjoyed my time with family. I so missed going to work, yet savoured the late mornings and lazy days. And all that idle time meant I upgraded little things around the home that I usually don’t get time to notice in my busy schedule. Which means, quite a bit of what’s new on our Amazon store front in this update is things I’ve used in my home rather than those of clients’.
What’s New On Our Amazon Store
I usually let my cook run the kitchen the way she wants to. Since she has to use it, she sets it the way she likes. Since the lockdown though it has obviously been different. I’ve spent more time in the kitchen in the last few months than I have in the last few years. And so I reorganised it the way I like it and changed little things that needed changing. (Or at least I thought they did. My cook joined back a few weeks ago and so far she hasn’t complained about the rejigged kitchen!)
Since Amazon was one of the few stores that was delivering goods through most of the lockdown, guess where I got all these little things from? And now all of these have made it to our Amazon store in this update. But we do have a few products from our projects too. So let me get started with those.
Electrical & Electronics
We’ve updated the Electrical and Electronics section of our Amazon store front with some lights and fans we’ve used recently.
I’m sure you remember this slatted, wooden pendant we used above the dining table in our Modern Tropical Living Room. It’s now listed on our Amazon storefront.
We also listed these pretty glass globes that you saw lighting up the study table in our Teen Bedroom Makeover.
Did you notice this beautiful fan in our Pretty Pastel Bedroom? This dark oak wood finish went perfectly with the rest of our room. Not only does it look great, it also comes with a remote control to put it on and off and adjust it’s speed. It can also be voice controlled with Alexa.
We also used the same fan in white in the Black and White Master Bedroom of this home.
And while we are talking about fans I have also used this exhaust fan in my own kitchen.
Furnishings
I’m going to begin the update of the Furnishings section of our Amazon store with this little rug I got for my home office just before lockdown began. I chose this cotton and jute floor rug because it is simple and striking. It is also strong enough to not be damaged by that heavy table on top of it and easy to clean without having to lift that table too often.
Then this beautiful self striped grey bedsheet by Spaces that fit into our Moody Teen Bedroom quite perfectly.
And while we’re talking about bedsheets, here’s one that my daughter is using currently. I loved how the black and white floral pattern fits in perfectly with the black and white zebra striped walls of her Jungle Themed Room.
Also, this blue striped bedsheet that’s in my son’s room. Again, the blue stripe is a no-brainer in his Red and Blue Boys Room.
Most bedsheets though, come with only 2 pillow covers. (One if it’s a single sheet.) But we always use more than 2 pillows on a double bed, and figuring out the second set of pillow covers can become a problem. I recently discovered this set of pillow covers on Amazon. They have covers available in white and another dozen solid colours. The dark blue pillow cover that you can see above, for instance. So every time I buy a bedsheet, I head over here to select the covers for the extra pillows.
We also found this blue runner with a self pattern for our Haveli Style Living room on Amazon.
Decorative Accents & Fittings
We have just a few new additions to our Decorative Accents & Fittings section.
First come these posters from our Moody Teen Bedroom. Our teen already had most of these posters, but we wanted to add a few more to make a full gallery. I knew he was looking for vintage posters. I sent him this link which has a whole lot of them. He found both, the Pink Floyd poster and the Doors poster right here.
Also this new addition to our home… the wall clock, makes it to this list. We had another, similar clock here which stopped working during lockdown. I knew I wanted something similar in size and look to go with the vintage vibes of this space. I absolutely love how this handcrafted wooden clock looks like it was made just for this space.
Artificial Flowers & Greens
We only have one addition to our Artificial Flowers & Greens section, this bunch of Ficus leaves.
I think it’s quite obvious that I like real, live plants more than artificial ones, or even cut flowers for that matter. But I also don’t believe in too many rules and ‘shoulds’ and ‘should nots’.
This corner in my living room is small and dark, and no real plant truly flourishes here. What we end up doing is keeping the plant out in the balcony and bringing it in here only when we entertain or have friends over. The rest of the time, this corner has no greens in it.
It’s the reason I got the Ficus leaves. To fill in that corner with the greens at all times. I can still get a live plant in when we’re dressing up the living room. But on a daily basis this corner now looks fresh and happy again.
Kitchen & Bar
Like I said earlier, the Kitchen and Bar section of our Amazon store front has got the maximum new additions to it, all of which I have got for my own home.
Let me start with our most used and cherished purchase since the lockdown. Hubby was quite happy working from home, except for one thing. He missed his regular cups of coffee during work hours. He’s the one who chose and bought this coffee maker and he’s the one who uses it regularly. (Truth be told, I don’t even know how to turn it on.) And if he’s happy, so am I!
If we’re drinking coffee all day, what better than wine to end the evening? Weekend evenings at least!
The most frequently broken glasses in my home are wine glasses. We’ve lose at least one in every large, happy gathering we’ve had (which we think of as good luck). But it means we need to replenish our wine and champagne glasses more often than any other. It also means I wanted glasses that are pretty, and yet not too expensive (because I know we’re going to lose more of them soon!). I thought the twisted stem added just the right touch of pretty to these glasses.
And Some More..
Since hubby is resident bartender in our home (you can tell he’s pretty much in charge of all beverages!) another thing I had to upgrade for him were the ice trays. He hated the regular plastic ones. You have to twist and turn them every which way before you can get any ice out. He felt like he was going to battle whenever he had to reach out for one.
I read a lot of good things about silicon ice trays and tried those. Sure enough, the ice just slides out of them, but they are so flimsy that filling them with water and placing them in the freezer is a task. You can’t stop them from wobbling and the water spills all over the floor and freezer.
And then I found these ice trays and they are wonderful. The body is made of plastic and the bottom is silicon. Which means they stay steady and firm when you fill in the water, and yet have a flexi-bottom which you can push lightly to pop each cube of ice out. They also come with a lid, which means no spillage of water anywhere and they are so easy to pile up one on top of the other in the freezer. I haven’t figured out yet what has made hubby happier, the coffee maker or the ice trays!
In other boring (but very practical) news, we also got this stainless steel cutlery set for everyday use. Again, it is the simple design that goes with any kind of crockery or table setting that made me pick these.
Bath & Functional Fittings
We’ll wrap up our Amazon store update with the section on Bath and Functional Fittings. As the name suggests, this section has functional and useful finds in it.
Our first useful find is this wall iron stand which we have used in a project we are about to hand over. I love the sleek look and finish, and the well thought out design. The top shelf holds the iron. You can wrap the wire around the ears of the black band at the base. And the hooks at the bottom are a great idea. Hook your hangers on them while you iron. When you are done, fold and hang the ironing board itself.
Also this stainless steel wine rack that we used for a custom designed bar unit. Simply screw it to the bottom of your shelf to give yourself space to hang your wine glasses.
.
And that brings us to the end of our Amazon store update for now. I’ve added a lot of functional and useful products to our store this time. And I hope to continue doing that in the future.
I would love to hear from you, so do put in your thoughts and comments below.
