It’s time to roundup the year with the last roundup of the year, the Wallpaper Roundup 2022!
Here’s a random fact for you – the wallpaper roundup was the first roundup I ever wrote, way back in 2018. It’s because of how much you all loved it that I started writing the other roundups.
Now I write eight roundup posts every year, starting with furnishings and ending with wallpapers. You can click here to see them all. And do let me know if I’m missing out any that you would like to see on the blog.
Wallpaper Roundup 2022
If you’ve been around for any length of time, you know how much I love using wallpapers. Yet this year, I have worked on one beautiful home where we didn’t use wallpaper as regular wallpapers at all. We’ve used them very sparingly and in an unusual manner.
Let’s start with those.
1 – Purple Watercolour Border
This little girl asked us for a lavender bedroom. The thing about lavender is, that if overdone it can be cloyingly sweet and just way too much.
We decided to use the colour in such a way that at first glance, the room looks lavender. But if you look closely, you can see a sprinkling of colours and a lot of neutrals to tone it down.
Since the largest pieces, the day bed and large swing cushion, were in pastels, we decided to use just a dash of colour to brighten things up. This little strip of wallpaper, running down the centre of the wall, gives an impression of colour across all the walls of the room, even though the walls are actually all white.
And our girl gets her lavender bedroom, without actually making it all lavender.

2 – Black and White Paisley
Do you remember this teeny-tiny room? We designed it as a study, with a sectional sofa cum bed so it doubles up as a guest room when required.
Because the room is so small, we used an almost monochromatic colour palette here to keep things easy on the eye.
This side board is the only exception. Even though it is also monochromatic, we’ve used a bolder pattern on this unit. It’s the showstopper of this room and adds that element of surprise which keeps the room from looking ordinary.

3 – Ibis & Acacia
This stunning powder bathroom is black and gold and totally glam. We were looking for a wallpaper that would be just as glamourous, with hints of gold and grey.
If you had told me then that I would end up with birds on the wall, I would probably have laughed. But as soon as we saw this wallpaper, we knew this would work perfectly.
Considering everything else, from the mosaic tiles to the pendant light to the border on the mirror, is in geometric patterns, this nature themed wallpaper helps to break the monotony of the patterns.
The grey and gold tones are absolutely prefect. And I think the oriental vibe to the wallpaper adds to the glamour in its own way.

4 – Pooja Wallpaper
This father’s bedroom has been designed simply, in beiges and creams, with gentle patterns and motifs.
He wanted only a small pooja shelf in the room, for a small idol and a ‘diya’. We thought the best way to beautify and demarcate ‘just a shelf’ as a pooja, is by using a wallpaper panel behind it.
This wallpaper was customised for his room, in the same neutral and earth tones that we have used across the space. I love how it marks the mandir area and makes it so pretty, without being overtly religious in design.

5 – Hanging Vines
From all the wallpapers in our wallpaper roundup 2022, the most thought went into this one. The client wanted a green and yellow kitchen. I wanted the kitchen to be as subtle and sophisticated as the rest of this beautiful home.
Green and yellow tiles across the kitchen, I didn’t think would be too subtle. We decided to go with neutral tiles and use a wallpaper highlight to add the colours we needed.
But what type of green and yellow wallpaper should we use? A texture? A geometric pattern? Stripes and checks in greens and yellows were again quite unappealing.
We finally settled on nature. The only place I could think of where I would see these colours naturally, was in leaves and flowers. Using muted greens and yellows in a natural setting would be both subtle and beautiful. And I love how this mural, and the kitchen, turned out!

6 – Car Crazy
This one year old boy has only recently started talking, and one of the first things he has learnt, are names of vehicles. He loves cars and trucks and they had to play an important part in his room.
This cute wallpaper that we found, is pretty much perfect as it is. We also had it customised by adding a few of his favourite vehicles that were missing on it – a firetruck and an ambulance.
He loves it.. and so do we!

Glamourous birds (does such a thing exist?), cute cars, pretty motifs and murals and a border that’s just a splash of colours. Even though we’ve used only a handful of wallpapers over the last year, each one has been completely different from the other, creating a unique story of its own.
I love how we’ve managed to do so many different things with, what is at the end of the day, a piece of paper. That is what I so love about wallpapers, and why I use them so often.
So what do you think of the wallpaper roundup 2022? Which is your favourite?
