The year is racing away quickly to its end and this will be my last post from this year. I can’t think of a better one, than a collection of one of my favourite decor elements: wallpapers. So I’m going to round off this year, with wallpaper roundup 2021.
Wallpaper Roundup 2021
I always say that what I love about wallpapers most is their versatility. That I can use them for anything, from creating a simple texture or pattern, to a completely fantastical space. The collection this year includes great examples of both extremes.. and of everything in between too. So let’s get started.
1 – The Cypress Forest
We used simple furniture in this small bedroom to keep it uncluttered. Then we added on embellishments like handles, fittings, fabrics and prints to bring in a traditional look. I wanted a wallpaper with a simple traditional motif in keeping with this vibe.
This wallpaper fit the bill. Though traditional, the motif is not ornamented heavily making it easy on the eye.
The original wallpaper was in a beautiful blue. We had this one customised for us in this lovely lavender and you can see how it adds to the charm of this room.

2 – What If
This is the bar corner of the Shades of Grey living room. Most of the furniture here is finished in a rich, teak polish. As suggested by it’s name, we’ve used shades of grey as the base colour for a lot of the furnishings. The curtains and sofa are in soft, plain greys while the smaller chairs and benches have patterned fabric in greys.
I was looking for something similar for this wall. It had to be grey, to go with the colours of the room. I also wanted a vibrant pattern, to make the wall stand out.
This stunning pattern in shades of grey worked wonders here. Along with the deep wood tones and delicate brass adornments, it made a smashing bar corner for this home.

3 – Plaid
This teen boy came to us asking for an orange room. I had two first-thoughts when I heard that!
First, that an orange room would look too bright.
Second, that an orange room might look girly.
To counteract the first, we added blue to the colour scheme. I’ve always considered blue to be a colourful ‘neutral’. It goes with all colours, tones them down, and yet adds colour to the space.
To counteract the second we added the plaid wallpaper. The blue and orange plaid adds colour and pattern and is neither too childish nor too grown up… just right for a teen, I think.

4 – Distinct
This young man’s room is a vibrant black and gold with a lot of drama. We were looking for something dramatic to go with the vibe, without being too heavy on pattern.
This wallpaper fell right into place. Not only are the colours and design just right, we also had the stripes fitting perfectly across the width of the TV panel.

5 – Plisse Shibori
A similar TV panel in the other boy’s room and we decided to use wallpaper on this too. But the design vibe of this room is completely different. It is a gentler and calmer space.
Since we’ve used prominent patterns in the curtains and furnishings of this room, we went for a wallpaper with a much softer, barely there design. This wallpaper has a beautiful texture that you can’t really see in the photograph. The texture comes through very well because the pattern is so light and helps add interest to this space as much as the design itself.

6 – Jaipur
The home-office-cum-family-room of Noor consists of contemporary furniture with a few intricately carved, accent pieces thrown in to make an interesting, eclectic space.
We tried to do the same with our wallpaper.
This beautiful study unit is simplicity at its best. Yet I wanted to add that element of zing to it, to make it stand out in spite of it’s simplicity and emphasise the eclectic vibe.
Doesn’t this wallpaper play it’s part to a T? The paisley pattern in a soft beige is the perfect amalgamation of the contemporary with the ethnic… And the eclectic vibe is everything!

7 – Forest Mural
This home comes with a beautiful terrace way up in the sky. We got inspired by it and decided to make the full home a garden. Lots of beautiful wood tones, light floral prints and a whole lot of real greens helped us do that. But we decided that a wallpaper mural would help us truly bring this space to life.
This dazzling wallpaper across that dead corner literally brought the blue skies and chirping birds right into this living room. I wish I could have you sit at this dining table for a meal to get an actual feel of this space!

8 – Floral Mural
And to roundup our wallpaper roundup 2021, this dainty floral mural.
Since the garden theme was working so well for us in the living room, we decided to carry it into the master bedroom too.
There are a few differences though. We’ve gone with a lighter design since the room is smaller. We have the pink skies of the setting sun instead of the blue skies above. And we have gentle leaves swaying in the breeze instead of the birds and bees.
All in all, it’s a softer, simpler look to keep the bedroom a serene space. And yet, the garden comes right into the room.

As promised, we’ve gone from simple and light, to bold and bright, to fully fantastical in our wallpaper roundup 2021. I have re-lived the selection process while writing this post. It’s reminded me how exciting I find the process and the end result, and how much I love each of these wallpapers. (Maybe I just actually love all wallpapers in general!)
And yet, the first project I’ll bring to you next is year is one which is different from all others I’ve done so far.
Can you guess how?
I haven’t used a single wallpaper anywhere, in the entire home. That is certainly a first for me!
I am super excited about that project and will bring it to you very, very soon. Remember to sign up here so you don’t miss it!
