Continuing with the reveals of the radiant spaces of ‘Noor‘, today I bring to you it’s soothing guest room.
As I mentioned in my last post, this flat is an annex to the client’s main home. They wanted one of the bedrooms here to serve as a guest room, yet also provide extra storage they needed for themselves. And so here is how we went about it.
The Plan
This is a good sized bedroom where we could easily fit in everything the client wanted.
The bed comes in the centre of the room. We swapped one of the side tables for a study table. This gives an extra space for work-from-home, in addition to the home office space you saw in the last post. Considering that everyone in the family is currently studying and working from home, we thought this would be extremely useful.
Opposite the bed we lined up storage on the entire wall. At the two ends we have regular wardrobes that can be used by guests when they are over. Between these two wardrobes is loads of extra storage, including some for shoes and bags.
The TV also comes on this wall, right opposite the bed.
Bed Wall
Right in the centre of the bed wall, we have this beautiful bed.
To one side of the bed we have this side table with the gorgeous fluting detal.
On the opposite side of the bed comes this graceful study table and chair. The table gets plenty of natural light during the day as it is placed right next to the sliding doors that lead into the balcony. The study chair also doubles up as the seating space of the bedroom.
The Storage Wall
Opposite the bed is all our storage. On both the ends, the guest wardrobes are finished in veneer.
Between these two, we covered the entire storage in simple paneling, painted white to match the walls. Considering how close all this storage is to the bed, this keeps it from looking heavy and helps the room look more spacious.
There are full length storage units on both sides that have trays for storage of shoes and bags.
The rectangular panel you see in the centre will hold the television. There is additional storage space above, below and behind it.
The Window Wall
Full length curtains with a layer of sheers allows all the natural light possible to flow into this bedroom during the day.
The Details
We used the same gentle, light veneer on the doors and wardrobe here that we used in the home office you saw last time.
Since this room is storage heavy, we wanted to carry the same light, natural feel across the rest of the room too. This charming bed with a wicker headboard has just the effortless, airy vibe we were looking for.
Considering we were going with light whites, blues and greys in the entire room we thought the black tables on either side would perk things up a bit. And they certainly did.
The fluted detail of this side table here…
… is exquisitely balanced with the deliciously carved legs of the study table on the other side.
Similarly, we added a black frame and mount border to the blues and greys of the artwork.
The pendant lamps came with transparent wire cords to suspend them. We had them changed to black for the same reason.
And I love how it all falls into place beautifully.
Soothing Guest Room
Whites, greys and barely-there-blues.. that’s the colour scheme we picked for this soothing guest room. By barely-there-blues I mean blues that are not distinctly blue. You look at the colour and wonder whether it is a grey with a blue undertone or a blue with a grey undertone.
The idea was to keep the space as soft and neutral as possible, yet not devoid of colour.
We started with this pretty rug in shades of blue, green and beige. This is probably the bluest blue we have in the room. Since it is on the floor and out of direct line of sight, it gives us colour in the room without being in the face.
The curtains are a greyish blue with a muted print, combined with white sheers with soft stripes in the same greyish blue.
A grey striped bedcover forms the base of our bedding. We layered this with a quilt in a gentle print…
… and patterned cushion covers on beautifully textured fabric.
And we have a soothing guest room with a gentle and restful vibe.
It’s Lit!
I think lighting makes a huge difference to the aura of any space.
Beautiful lights totally transform the energy of a room from what it is in regular daylight.
It is just the same for this soothing space, and I’m really happy we managed to get some photographs with the lights on!
Before and Afters
Now, down to my favourite part!
On the wardrobe wall…
… we provided full length storage. The guest wardrobes are on the two ends. The paneling conceals a whole lot of storage for the clients and the centre panel is awaiting the television!
The window wall…
… makes a great spot for our study table giving it plenty of natural light and a view to work with.
And the bed wall…
Which, thanks to three stunning pieces of furniture that bring out the best in each other, is the hero of this room.
