The festive season is approaching and we’re all looking to decorate and spruce up our homes. To give our room that quick makeover. To make it bright, fresh and new. Adding or changing cushions is such a quick, cost effective and easy way to do just that. You can’t change your furniture every year. But get yourself a new set of cushions, get on with your sofa styling, and you have a whole new room just like that!
Sofa Styling:
Why in the world do we even need to style our sofas? You have a soft, comfortable sofa on which you can lounge around cozily all day. Why would you need anything else on it? Remember our post on coffee table styling? Where we said that getting a coffee table and leaving it empty is like wearing a sari without make up? Having a sofa without cushions is pretty much the same.
A few quick advantages of using cushions…
- It dresses up your sofa… literally… and therefore your entire room. Look at that sad, lonely looking sofa up there, and watch how we transform it…
- It’s the easiest way to get a totally new room. Just continue reading to see what I mean. We have neutral sofas and curtains here. By only changing the cushions, we’ve got ourselves so many different looks. This means, you can keep as many different sets of cushion covers you like, which you can change with every season, festival or even your mood… and voila, you’ve got a mini makeover!
- Your sofa is so much more comfortable and cozy with them.
VLiving:
So while I was figuring out where to source the cushion covers for this post from, I came across VLiving. Amongst all the lovely stuff they stock on their online store, they have the most gorgeous collection of cushion covers that I’ve ever seen on a single website. They were more than happy to let me borrow all these beautiful cushion covers and this sofa styling post came to be.
If you can get yourself to look past the vibrant colours and patterns of these covers what strikes you immediately is the impeccable quality of each and every piece. Whether it’s the fabric, the embroidery, the zippers or the prints.. I don’t think you’ll see opening seams or loose threads on these for a long time.
VLiving loved the sofa styling post too, and so they’ve gone a step further. They’re giving a special discount to our blog readers. I have linked all the cushion covers I’ve used in this post and you can buy any you like directly with the click of a button. Use the code ARIYONA on checkout and you’ll get a discount of 20% on your shopping bag!
The best part… VLiving ships worldwide. So whichever corner of the globe you’re reading this from… if you like it, it can be yours.
Here goes.. let the party begin!
(1) Black & Beige – the neutral, monochromatic look:
Now some of us just love colour and bling… especially at festival time. And some of us just never! Don’t let the fear of colour make you fearful of styling.
You don’t have to add colour to get a styled look… in fact, a collection of neutrals makes for great style! Here the focus is on patterns and texture rather than colours.
That pattern you see on the beige and the black cushions is not a print.. it’s beautifully delicate embroidery.
Styling tip: The black ‘throw’ on the sofa is not any kind of special sofa throw. It’s a stole I use on my shoulders when I want to keep warm and on my sofa when I want to dress it up. Look around your home and you’ll find so much stuff you already have that you can use in so many different ways.
Both the cream coloured cushions above are from the Handira collection, inspired by Moroccan wedding blankets. Here’s a close up so you can see the beautiful detailing.
Want this look? Below are the links to each of these cushions individually, or the whole set if you love it as much as I do!
(2) Blush & Blue – Add some soft colour:
I’m really into blush these days.. actually, I think the world is. And VLiving has beautiful blush covers which are everything soft, sweet and delicate.
The one on the left below is a lacey print.
This one is simple, geometric embroidery.
And this is delicate sequin work.
The blues play the perfect neutrals in this collection.
If you want just a hint of colour without it being in your face, this is the collection for you.

(3) Blue & Yellow – Let’s make things brighter:
What if you like it bright? Or want to match the existing colour scheme of your living room? You can still use blue, beige, grey or white as a neutral and add any colour you like to that.
When you’re putting together cushions from different stores or collections to make your own set, it’s unlikely that you will get the shades to match just right. But that’s perfectly okay. Notice how all 3 yellows here are of a slightly different shade from each other.
It’s a great idea to play with contrasting prints and patterns too. I usually wouldn’t put 2 bold prints together. So above we have the beautiful, bold tie and dye in blue with the simple striped pattern in yellow.
The pink on this beautiful patchwork yellow ties in with the pink tassels on the blue above.
The floral print in yellow here is teamed up with the geometric of the blue.
So go ahead.. mix, match and make your own personalised set, exclusive to you, for your sofa styling.
Or you could shop this one from the links below.
(4) Bright Pink & Green – Blingy all the way!
And then you can go with bright colours in full festive mode. We’ve got pink and green here.. but VLiving has so many delicious combinations to choose from. I really had to control myself here. I so enjoyed mixing and matching their collection and could easily have made another half-a-dozen sets from it!
Once again, the cushion covers are not exactly matched. The one on the left is more pink and yellow.. and so the yellow ties it in with the rest…
… which are more pink and green. Notice how the green on the cushion cover is dark, where as the green pom poms and accents on the pink cushion cover are light… not really matching.
The 2 pinks aren’t the same either.. one is bright while the other is softer. And yet they all come together beautifully to give us this colourful look.
Here I’ve used one of my favourite phulkari stoles to style the sofa because it was just perfect with this set.
Also notice how we’ve changed the accessories with each set by picking common colours and getting it all to tie in with each other.
You walk in to this room and it has celebration written all over it.
If you’re into this look, you can shop it on the links below.
These were just a few examples to get you started on your sofa styling. VLiving has loads and loads of different colours, designs and styles. So you must check out the VLiving website whether you’re making a set from scratch or adding to existing cushions you already have.
