I recently came across Bubblewrap Store online and instantly liked most of the home decor products that I saw. Their accessories have simple lines and shapes with a modern aesthetic. Yet, the materials and textures used exude a warmth that I aim for in every home. I have been waiting for an opportunity to use these, so when I got a call from mom looking to refresh this corner of her home, I decided to use Bubblewrap. The sideboard needed some accessories and the wall above was a blank. I decided to use their products for the sideboard styling, and you can see the results for yourself!
Sideboard Styling:
I started with a completely blank slate, which makes it easier as you can select all your products in such a way that they complement each other. I decided to use a largely brass and black finish to go with the sideboard. The sideboard is vintage style, made in solid wood with antique finish brass handles. The brass and black would be perfect on it.
The Bottom Shelves:
I placed the black Nero frame on one end with a small tealight to brighten up the dark corner. The books on the other side were looking too lonely, so I sat a little planter on them.
The black colour and the roughly carved wood gives it a solid earthiness that I love.
The Middle Shelves:
The right side of the sideboard looked a little lifeless and incomplete. I added some life to it with this gorgeous pot of overflowing money plant.
On the left side I used the beautiful vintage style metal basket. It’s listed in the Kitchen Essentials section and I think the word ‘Essential’ is very appropriate for it! It’s one of my favourite pieces from the Bubblewrap collection. Though it would look great on the dining table with a bunch of fruits in it, I didn’t want to style it that way for the sideboard. I used candles and some dried flowers instead.
Do you remember I asked you all on Instagram whether I should add some purple flowers to the basket?
Most of you said I should.. and the result was really pretty.
The Top:
The top was completed by the wire lantern on one side and the frames and vase on the other.
The candles would normally go into this wire lantern, but I didn’t want to repeat the candles since I had already styled the vintage basket with them. So I used what always works best for me.. a bit of green. The fairy lights add just the right bit of twinkling charm and this side was set.
I wanted to add a lot of height on the left side to balance out the right, and to start filling up that blank wall. I used a trick which I had earlier mentioned in this post. The Heliconia flowers are fake. But add a few stems of real greens to fake flowers, in this case from the bougainvillea in the balcony, and the fakes start to look kind of real. The Tall Cuboid Vase was just perfect to hold them.
In fact, I liked the way the shiny gold, the dull black and texture of the rope complement each other and decided place these frames alongside the vase.
The Wall:
This left the centre and upper right corner of the wall bare and sad.
You must have noticed the brown taped hooks on the wall in the previous pics. This is a hack I often use. What happens if you like to change your frames and artwork around? Or if you live in a rental and the landlord doesn’t want you to hammer nails into his walls? Should you not hang up your artwork and live with bare walls? Not at all!
I use these stick on hooks which you can get at your local store. It’s basically a metal hook with a two sided tape at the back. They usually stick firmly and can hold a regular painting up. When I removed the mirror frames from their packaging, though, I realised they are made of solid metal and really heavy. I still didn’t want to drill permanent holes into the wall. So I strengthened the hold of the hooks with duct tape all around them.
The duct tape held well and the mirrors look fabulous!
Again, I really like how the textures of all 3 golden pieces are different. The smooth wires of the cage, the fine striations on the Sunburst mirror and the larger, flat pattern on the geometric mirror all work well with each other and prevent the gold from becoming boring.
Before & After:
We have some close ups of both the sides so you can have a better look at the sideboard styling. The right side with the wire lantern, plants and the solid black frame.
The left with the frames, that beautiful basket and a stack of books.
And a quick before and after of our sideboard styling to round it up.
