From bedrooms and living rooms to kitchens, we’ve designed a whole lot of spaces over the year. And most spaces need some kind of place to rest yourself on. So today, we bring to you a seating roundup. These are our favourite sofas, chairs and stools that we have used in our projects, where we’ve used them and where you can find them. It’s all in here, so let’s get started!
Seating Roundup
A bar stool needs to be high enough so you can reach the elevated bar / breakfast counter. A study chair should help you to sit erect and maintain a good posture while you work. A chair in your bedroom should allow you to relax and sit back, yet be able to read a book or work on a crossword with your morning cup of tea. Your sofa in the living room should allow you to sink in and relax.
We use all kinds of seating all through the day. And depending on where we’re using it, what we’re using it for, and personal preferences, we need it all of it to serve different purposes both in terms of look and function.
So here we have today all the different types of seating that has worked for us in different way and different spaces. Let me take you through them one at a time.
Metal Bar Stool
Let’s begin here with these simple bar stools from Krishna’s Greige Kitchen. We managed to make this little breakfast counter in the kitchen by closing the existing kitchen door. We had a small space in which to work, and needed light stools that would fit in easily.
These bar stools fit the bill perfectly. They are light on the eye, very comfortable and go beautifully with the rest of this kitchen.

Shell Arm Chair
Next, we have this lovely arm chair from our Pretty Pastel Bedroom. This was the clients’ parents’ bedroom, and done in a traditional style to suit their taste. They needed a chair to use with the study table, which they use often for writing and sewing. Since this table is near the window, the chair could also be used to sit and relax with a cup of tea during the day.
So we picked this chair. Its seat height and erect back make it great for work. The arm rests give it the feel of an easy chair and make it comfortable to sit and lounge on it too.
The vendor allowed us customise this chair by upholstering it with our fabric, and that was an added bonus.

Compact Chair
Next on our seating roundup is the Compact Chair from our Modern Tropical Living Room. What I really love about it is that it is TRULY compact. It is the smallest comfortable chair I have ever found, and if this one won’t fit into a given space, not many others will.

Cool Chair
The ‘Cool Chair’ does complete justice to its name. Made of natural wicker in this soft shade, it is cool material to look very cool indeed. And it sure fits in perfectly into our Modern Tropical Living Room.

Organic Checkmate Sofa
Most cane furniture you find locally is of the traditional, carved variety. That wouldn’t have fit into our Modern Tropical Living Room. We wanted wicker furniture with a contemporary look and this sofa was love at first sight.
A unique feature here was, that it wasn’t going to be pushed up against the wall as sofas usually are.
Which meant we could show off that beautiful wicker weave at the back too.

Nonet Bench
Our Modern Tropical Living Room was all about getting the tropical feel by using natural materials. We used a lot of wicker, live edge wood, cork and greens… and decided to use a leather finish on the dining bench. The bench helped us to push the dining table against the wall, which gave us more space in the living area.
We loved this tufted beauty and customised it by selecting our own leatherette to go with our colour scheme.

Oval Back Chair
We needed a study chair for our little girl’s Pink and Lavender Room. We didn’t want a very large looking piece of furniture because she is, after all, a little girl. Yet the chair had to be of regular height since the study table was of regular height too.
The oval back chair looks small and dainty while being a full height chair and our little girl loved it as much as we did.

Gravity Lavender Chair
We continue our seating roundup with the Gravity Chair from our Pink and Lavender Girl’s Room. This chair was supposed to have a dual purpose. A place for our little girl to lounge and relax. Also, since we placed a pair of these in front of her crafting table, somewhere she could sit and do her colouring and crafting.
Its low height meant she could use it easily for relaxing, and for the low-ish crafting table we got for her to work on.

York Youthful Sofa
Next in our seating roundup comes furniture we used in our Boho Living Room. We managed to fit in a whole lot of seating into this small living room, and this was mostly because we selected moderately sized pieces. The York Sofa was one such. The wooden legs keeping it off the floor meant it looked light too.

The Lighthouse Chaise
When you have a small living room and want seating on both sides, a chaise on one side is an excellent idea. A deep sofa on both sides here would have meant that we would have barely any space for a centre table in between.
The best part here was we could also select from a wide variety of fabrics online. The fabric we have selected here is called ‘A Persian Corridor Winter’ and you can see how beautifully it fits in.

Orchid Chair
Sometimes, all it takes is one piece of furniture to make a statement in a space. Though our Boho Living Room has many beautiful pieces, I think it is this chair that ups the style quotient here. Once again, we could select the fabric from a wide variety online. We have gone with the ‘Ashoka Orange Gold’ fabric here.

Finchle Dining Chair
Again, given the small size of our Boho Living Room we wanted chairs that would be comfortable yet not too large in size. We also wanted fully upholstered chairs because we knew we’re going to add a splash of colour using fabric.
We loved that these chairs also have a low back. Even though their back is to the passage, since they are almost the height of the dining table, they don’t block the dining area visually.

Bella Chair
This small, barely there study chair has me completely in love. We first used it in our Teen Bedroom Makeover. It was small, smart, trendy with the black just right to go with all our black accents. When I actually sat on it and tried it out I realised it is super comfortable too.
I promise you, I was going to buy a couple for my own studio, only to realise they had gone out of stock.
So imagine my joy when I was looking for a black and wood chair to fit into our moody teen bedroom, and I found these available again! It fits in perfectly here too, right?

Plexi Chair
You’ve seen this beautiful chair in my Mom’s Home Office. What we love about it most? It’s light, beautiful and a classic piece… and comfortable enough to be able to sit in for hours and work.

Which wraps up our seating roundup 2020. We’ve loved taking a walk down memory lane looking at old projects and seeing all these lovely pieces of furniture again. I have also tried to explain my thought process behind picking every piece.
This is the first furniture roundup we’ve ever done, and I hope we have been able to share enough information with you. Let me know what you think about it and whether you found it useful or not. And let me know if you’d like me to follow it up with more furniture roundups… tables next maybe?
Until then,
