Of all the roundups I share with you, the rugs are by far my favourite. So I’m super happy to be here today with all the gorgeous rugs we’ve used last year. Welcome to the Rug Roundup 2022.
Rug Roundup 2022
You’d think by looking at the snapshot above, that we have designed only blue rooms with blue rugs in the past year. Not true! In fact, it’s far from the truth. I thrive on colours and patterns and we’ve worked with a variety of colours in a myriad patterns. And as always, the rugs play a huge role in adding those to our spaces.
Let’s go through all of these in our Rug Roundup 2022.
Mythos
Do you remember this nature inspired living room? Stepping into it is like stepping into a vibe of clear blue skies and a gentle breeze. I wanted a rug in the same soft blue with florals to bring in the nature.
This beautiful piece has just the right colours, motifs and calm aura to go with our vibe.
Size: 5’x8′ | Hand Tufted | Ice blue / Antique White

Kilim Runner
We have a passage off the living room above, which leads into the bedrooms. We decided to continue with the same colour across the passage, but a bolder pattern so that it catches the eye from a distance. Since the passage would see heavy traffic, the client also wanted a rug that was easily washable.
This Kilim dhurrie worked well here. We had it customised in our chosen colour and pattern and you can see how it adds a little drama to the passage even when seen from a distance.

Suzani Runner
The master bedroom of Gul is also as inspired by nature as its living room. Except that if the living room reminds you of a clear, sunny, airy day, the bedroom is inspired by the pinks and purples of the twilight skies.
We have a runner on either side of the bed, with a Suzani floral pattern in keeping with the nature. Browns have been added to the purples for an earthy feel.

Swahili Jute Runner
The clients were worried about keeping any rug at all here. Being the main entrance to the home, they were sure any rug we placed here would be dirty in no time.
With all the cement, wood and iron finishes in this foyer, I wanted a rug to help bring a soft touch to it. So we decided to go for a narrow, sliver of a runner so that it stays out of the walking path.
With its grey, cement textured walls and ceiling, and rich wood tones, we needed a rug with a natural, earthy feel.
This jute runner fit in perfectly, both in terms of size and finish.

Genesis
The same, earthy, textured grey cement and wood look carries into the entertainment-cum-guest room of Sylver, and we needed a rug to match.
I picked this abstract rug that looks like it has been custom made for this space. Don’t you get the feeling that we have picked the colours from different parts of the room and splashed it on to the rug?
The random splash of colours allows the bold black and white patterns we’ve used on the coffee table and lounger to stand out.
Size: 5’x8′ | Hand Tufted | Steel Grey / Ashwood

Kilan
The living room of Sylver is completely opposite of the foyer and guest room. If those are mostly grey and wood, the living room is bursting with colour with vibrant oranges and pinks being predominant.
I wanted a rug that would have all of these beautiful colours, and yet not be so loud as to drown out the colours of the furniture and accessories that come on and around it.
I love how the Kilan falls into place, enhancing all the colours around it inspite of being so colourful itself.

Genesis
The dining area lies between the grey entertainment room and the colourful living room and is a gentle transition between the two.
The sideboard here is the bar unit. There is too much blank floor space between the bar and dining. The rug here helps add warmth to that space and define the bar area as separate from the dining.
With the greys, purples and pinks, the colours are a transition between the two areas too.

Kasbah
Next on the Rug Roundup 2022, we have this stunning rug from the master bedroom of Sylver.
Except for the deep blue wardrobe shutters on one side of this bedroom, we have gentle fabrics sprinkled with blues and pinks across the room. We knew this bold and bright rug would help brighten up the room and bring it to life.
Size: 4’x7′ | Hand Tufted | Indigo blue / Medium espresso

Selmer & Faux Fur
Bright, multi-coloured, richly patterned, quirky and easily washable. That’s the kind of rug we wanted for this little girl’s room. This cotton printed rug was a great fit.
I wanted a softer vibe around the white macrame swing, though, and so we went for the layered look with a small patch of faux fur thrown in.
Makes for one dreamy room, doesn’t it?

Bedouin
This study is so tiny, we decided to use colour minimally here. We went with whites all across, with a hint of mustard and gold.
The soft pattern of this rug helped us add a little spunk to this almost monochromatic space.

Maheep
This extremely large living room has been sparsely furnished with the client preferring to leave a large part of the living room open. We needed a rug here that would bring pattern not only into the area that it covers, but enough to bring the empty spaces to life too.
Yet, I wanted the rug to meld into the beautiful grey marble floors and the soft furniture around it so that it doesn’t make that area of the living room stand apart from the rest of it.
This delicately patterned rug does all of it with aplomb.

Amanda
This room has soft, textured beige walls which are just perfect for showcasing colour. And what better place to add dollops of it than the rug?
I had thought the clients would go for very soft colours in their bedroom since they had always spoken of gentle colours. So it truly surprised me when they picked this rug… and I couldn’t be happier with the selection.

Tribal
My first rug selection for this room was a floral motif, in keeping with the more traditional look we wanted for the Father’s room in Keje. The client, however, said he preferred a geometric. I picked this one as it isn’t too ‘modern’ or too bold a pattern, so that we could keep the overall look of the room more classic.
We also customised the colours of this rug to blend in harmoniously with the rest of the space and keep the overall look gentle.

That’s it from the Rug Roundup 2022. That was the last rug you have seen on this blog from the last room I revealed last week. You can click here to see all the other furniture, furnishing and lighting roundups on this blog.
The collection this year has been yet another wide variety of different colours, textures, patterns that we have used to create so many different vibes.
The rugs reflect quite well the spaces that we design. Each one different from the last, which keeps you wondering what the next will look like.
Since we design as we go along, we are just as clueless when we start and just as excited about figuring out the answer to that.
Let me know how you think we did with this last set… and here’s to discovering together, what lies ahead!
Until next time,
.
