18 Incredible Ways To Repurpose Old Drawers
Today’s post includes relatively simple ideas that can be done within a few hours and with little effort, and some that will require more work and skill than that. But whether you choose to only read this post today or pick an idea to work on, whatever be your skill level and whichever idea you select, I promise you, they will all make you look again and smile. So let’s get started.
1 – Use Them As Trays
This is possibly the easiest way to repurpose old drawers. All your drawer really needs to achieve this, is a coat of paint.
I think a distressed finish looks the best on these repurposed trays. You could use them to ground together your decoratives on a coffee table or book shelf.
You can even use these trays for service.
Add a few jars or glasses to use them as a cutlery caddy.
You could even add little legs at the base of the drawer…
… to give your tray more presence.
2 – Wall Shelves
One way to do this is to use the fascia of the drawer directly on the wall with a little top above it that works as a shelf.

Or you could use the entire drawer as it is, mounted onto the wall with brackets beneath it.
If it’s a large drawer, cut it depth wise depending on how big you want your shelf to be.
This works very well to make shelves for knick-knacks, jewellery and books.
Another easy way to make wall shelves is to place the base of the drawer against the wall and use the fascia and back of the drawers as the shelves.
Shelves like these can be used to keep decoratives…

As book shelves…

Or even as crafting stations or bangle stands.
3 – Bathroom Storage
Just as above, repurposed drawers make great shelves for use in bathrooms too.

Depending on your requirement, you can add additional partitions inside the drawer to add shelves to it.
Fix a wooden panel across the drawers to prevent things from falling out easily.
And use a wallpaper on the base of the drawer to add a pop of colour.
4 – Jewellery & Makeup Organiser
Another useful way to repurpose old drawers is to use them as jewellery organisers.
While a larger drawer can fit in longer pieces of jewellery within it, you can use hooks at the bottom of a smaller drawer for the same purpose.
Use longer hooks to organise earrings.
Or mount an old jewellery organiser drawer on to the wall to continue serving the same purpose.
Add smaller shelves inside the drawer to organise little things like nail polishes and other make up boxes.
5 – Storage Below The Bed
Add wheels to the drawers and slide them under your bed to give you a whole lot of additional storage space in your bedroom.
You could use labels to organise your storage.
Use pretty colours and handles to add a touch of glamour too.

Using wallpaper to dress up your repurposed drawers is a great way to make them a happy addition to your room.

6 – Storage At The Foot Of The Bed
Instead of wheels, give your repurposed drawer new legs, and place it at the foot of your bed.
This makes a great place to put away toys, books, blankets or even cushions and pillows.
7 – Side Tables
Similarly, give your drawer slightly longer legs to make you a pretty and functional table.
You can dress up the drawer front and select handles to make your table fit into your decor style.

You could even add an openable top to give your table additional storage space.
8 – Coffee Table
Add legs to a larger drawer to make a very useful coffee table.

Or cover the drawers in a glass top, line them with velvet or felt and you have a coffee table with a beautiful display.
9 – Poufs and Stools
Adding short legs and a cushion to the drawer makes for a perfect foot stool.
While adding longer legs will make the perfect pouf to sit on.
Make sure you can lift your cushion when required. This helps to give you storage below it, inside the drawer.
Again, you can select your colours, moulding, handles and ornamentation to give a different look and feel, depending on your decor style.
10 – Pet Bed
Adding a cushion to your drawer can also make it a the perfect place for your pet to nap.
You could either add a full cushion, or line the drawer on the insides to make a cozy bed.
If you have more than one pet, put together a few drawers together. It not only gives them all enough place to sleep, but also makes a little pet gym for them to play around on.
And don’t miss this cute puppy sunbathing in style on her special bed!
11 – Bar on Wheels
Using old drawers on a stand to make a bar is a great idea as the sides of the drawer automatically protect your glass ware from tipping over.
This is especially useful if you want to add wheels to make your bar mobile.
12 – Work Station
You can use a similar set up to make work stations of any kind. It could be a console at your entryway to take care of your shoes, keys and other paraphernalia.
It could be a dumbwaiter near your dining table to take care of your crockery and cutlery, or even a crafting station, with all your crafting material organised together in one place.
13 – Kitchen Stand
Fix the drawers at an angle and it makes for the perfect kitchen stand to stock onions, potatoes and fruits.
14 – Kitchen Rolls Holder
Fix rods within the drawer to make a holder for rolls of kitchen towels, cling film and aluminium foil.
15 – Message Station
Paint the base of the drawer in chalk board paint and hang it on the wall to make the perfect spot for family members to leave messages when required.
If you use cork instead of chalk paint, it becomes a pin up board, to pretty much serve the same purpose.

Or you can use it half and half to use it both ways. This message station also has hooks at the bottom for keys. It makes it just the perfect accessory to place in an entryway or kitchen.
16 – Table Lamp
This is a quirky and fun way to repurpose old drawers. Pile up drawers of various sizes one on top of each other and pass a pipe through them.

Give it a distressed look, add some vintage hardware and a pretty lampshade, and you have yourself a beautiful table lamp.
17 – Planters
And finally, what better way to repurpose old drawers than to use them to display your greens. You could make a small planter for fresh flowers or a table top pot…
Or a larger one to hold multiple pots.
Line your drawer with pebbles and well draining soil to make a pretty home for succulents.
Or use a collection of drawers to show off all your plants. The vintage vibe of old drawers makes a beautiful backdrop to display greens.
18 – Plant Stands
Even a single, small planter box upon a single legged stand…
… looks amazingly pretty.
Mount it on four legs like a table and it makes a marvelous way to display your plants whether in your patio, garden, balcony or inside your home.
You can use vibrant colours to go with the colours of your flowers.
