Today we have a short and sweet post to introduce our quick and easy guest room makeover. This guest room is part of our ‘We Want It Brighter‘ home. If you remember, they’ve done up their home not too long ago. All the furniture is already in place and they are only looking to give the room a fresh, brighter look.
The Plan:
In this guest bedroom the furniture is all built in. The bed, side tables, including a dressing mirror, wardrobe and TV unit are all already there and cannot be changed unless we pull it off the walls. So we’re not changing any of it.
Except for this one change requested by the client.
The TV Wall:
Along the entrance door to the storage-cum-TV unit for this room. The chest of drawers below the TV is as deep as the wardrobe and quite high. This is topped by a storage unit behind the TV unit too.
The client finds this too heavy and wants to do away with a part of it to make the room look lighter. The plan is to remove the top drawer of the unit to lower it and remove the entire storage behind the TV. The television will go directly on the wall and the room will look more open as you enter it.
But, barring this unit, if we’re not changing any of the furniture in the room, how do we go about giving it a refresh?
The easiest way possible… using colours and soft furnishings.
The Window Wall:
The plan is to swap these drapes for lighter ones, along with a layer of sheers. The more light we have coming into the room, the brighter it will look.
A hint of blue on the curtains should do the trick. I am also loving the tall green next to the window here. I was wondering where to put the plant into this room until I saw this pic. Seems ridiculously easy now!
The Bed Wall:
As you can see, the room is well planned with all the essentials taken care of. So we aren’t going to change any of the furniture.
We loved so many deep blue bed walls we saw on Pinterest and were really tempted to go for a dark blue wall here too. But we had second thoughts because of the dark wood on all the furniture. It didn’t seem like a great idea to make the room darker still.
So the plan now is to go with bright white walls and use a dark blue headboard fabric instead. Layering up the bed with some beautiful bedding should soften the look here. And we’ll add some artwork to brighten up that wall.
The Colours:
Which leaves us with the colour. As you must have guessed, the client wants to go for blues for this guest room. I think this is a great idea because blue is apparently the most liked colour in the world. You will rarely find someone who does not like blue. So if you go in for a blue guest room, more likely than not, your guest will love it.
In fact, for this very reason, my own guest room is done in blue too.
Quick And Easy Guest Room Makeover:
As you can see, what we’re doing here will involve a decor and furnishings refresh rather than a full scale interior design job. That’s how we intend to achieve our quick and easy guest room makeover. Hopefully, we will be able to go past our limitations and go with whatever changes are possible to give this room an entirely new look.

Until then,
