After months of waiting and a lot of patience, I am so excited to finally share a new project with you here on the blog. This bright, happy, pink, orange and green room for a very cute little girl seems like just the perfect place to start sharing our Blue Door Project with you. So let’s get right to it.

Pink, Orange And Green Room For A Happy Girl

The Plan

The occupant of the room is a cute 1 year old girl. We designed the room keeping in mind her requirements for the next 5 to 8 years.

We have a single bed, a comfortable chair, a large wardrobe, a smaller storage area and a little bench and table for craft.

Sleeping Area

One entire wall is a sliding glass door that steps out into a little balcony. We placed her single bed on one side of this. The bed opens out into a double bed, in case mommy or granny wants to sleep with her once in a while.

Sitting Area

On the opposite side we have a large comfortable chair which mommy and daddy can use to rock her to sleep or read her a story.

Storage

I loved the position of the entrance door to this room. It opens into a little passage with just the right amount of space to fit a wardrobe behind it. So our wardrobe was neatly hidden away behind the door… and we also got one additional uninterrupted wall inside the room, to design the way we wanted.

The full size wardrobe behind the entrance door takes care of all the clothes storage she will need for many years to come. Yet, because of its large size, she may not be able to reach and use it for a few years.

So we also designed this smaller, fun storage area inside the main room. The orange coloured wardrobe is much shorter than a regular wardrobe with easy to pull drawers inside. She can use these to keep toys and books which will be within easy reach for her. We’ve used orange chalkboard paint on the shutter, so it will also double up as some fun drawing space for her.

Writing Area

Right next to the orange wardrobe we have additional toy storage which includes a bench. The drawer under the bench is a great place to stash away toys and books for everyday use as it is within easy reach.

The small table and stool can easily be moved around the room. She can use them with a friend alongside the bench for drawing or crafting, or near the chair when colouring with her parents or as a side table near her bed.

She can also use these to complete simple assignments once she starts going to school.

Pink, Orange And Green Room

Our colour scheme for this room came from this charming wallpaper. We loved the bright pinks of these cute butterflies. But we didn’t want an overload of pink in this room.

So we picked the other colours from the butterflies to get this happy, cheerful, pink, orange and green room.

The first item we picked was the rug. We loved this pretty pattern and had it customised in our colours. It makes the perfect base for everything else in this room.

Next came the curtains. I wanted every colour in those butterflies on our curtains too, yet didn’t want the room looking blingy. Both these fabrics fell into place perfectly. The off white base of the solid curtain tones down the bright pattern embroidered along the entire length in stripes. The delicate flowers embroidered in pink, orange and green are utterly delightful.

The white fur stool with the raw wooden legs plays the rough neutral very well against our delicate brights.

On the opposite side, we used a kantha embroidered, solid pink bedspread as our base.

The pretty cushions and the block printed quilt in pink, orange and green stand out beautifully against it. And the exquisite tasseled macramé wall hanging, again customised in our colours, completes the look.

Our bed corner turned out comfortable, bright and colourful without being over-the-top.

We used these pink and green floral knobs and handles across all our wardrobes and drawers. Given that we have one white wardrobe, another orange and a third one in pink, these help to tie them all in together so that they look like they belong together.

All the little details came together wonderfully well to give us this dazzlingly delightful, pink, orange and green room for our little girl.

Before And After

Let me take you through some before and afters so you can enjoy the beautiful transformation.

The bathroom door wall..

Our storage fit in neatly on one side with the wing chair on the other.

Our window wall, with the sliding doors leading into the balcony.

The seating came on one side of the sliding doors with our bed on the other.

The large bed wall, with a view of the entrance passage.

The single bed came against this wall while our full wardrobe fit into the niche behind the entrance door.

And finally our entrance door wall…

Since the wardrobe fit in so well behind the entrance door, we could use this for additional storage and a small writing area for our little girl.
