We’re here with yet another beautiful space from our White & Light Home, our pink and lavender room reveal.

Considering that this home is supposed to be ‘white and light’, this room turned out to be quite a happy burst of colours. We couldn’t resist adding spurts of bright to our pastel pinks and lavenders to match the personality of the little girl who is going to call this room her own. So let us walk you through our pink and lavender room reveal.

Pink And Lavender Room Reveal

We had explained our plan for this room in this introductory post. The most exciting thing for me was that we haven’t given this room any bed as such. Can you even begin to imagine how much space that leaves us to do what we like with?

Let me just show you the plan so you don’t have to imagine it.

The Plan

The window along the full length of the left wall has a low ledge at its base. This ledge is 3 feet wide… the width of a single bed. So we decided to lay out our mattress on this ledge. It makes for a seat along the window during the day and a bed at night.

A Pink And Lavender Room For a Little Girl - Part 1

We then used the rest of the room to give her space for all her basic requirements and hobbies. Let me show you how.

The Window Wall

As you can see from the plan, the window runs across almost the entire width of this room, which is much longer than what you need for a bed. We decided to add book shelves on either side of the window to best utilise that space.

A wall full of books, a comfortable mattress (or that chair) to sit on, loads of cushions to make yourself comfortable and a reading light you can swing either way. Which means our bed-cum-seating is now also serves as a little library.

Crafting Table

Normally, we would have put our bed against this wall. Since we put the bed on our window ledge we could do as we please with this space.

Our little girl’s favourite hobby is art and craft. So we thought this space would be best used for a crafting table.

She now has a good sized round table on which she can keep her paper and crafting material and two comfortable chairs where she can spend endless hours drawing and crafting, with our without a friend.

We thought a magnetic glass board would be a great addition to this space too. It’s great for a last minute sketch, to write out her to-do list or just stick on an important reminder. The pink goes perfectly with the colour scheme of this room.

Study Area

Her study table fit in neatly right across from the crafting table. Along with the study table in the centre, we added a unit each on both sides. They have a little storage below and cubbies on top. This again helps her to organise her art and craft material into little boxes and baskets which she can then store in these cubbies and cupboards.

Finally, she has that pretty soft board just above her table to display all her artwork.

The Wardrobes

Wardrobes along the entire length of this wall means she has enough place for her clothes and belongings. If you notice the cross marked on the corner wardrobe in the plan above, that shows the area where the wine cooler from the living room fits in.  It enters through the living room wall and goes into the lower part of the left wardrobe in this room. The part of the wardrobe which houses the wine cooler is blocked from this side. Click here to see the living room.

The Colours

Our little girl had decided she wanted a pink and lavender room and loved the wallpaper that was on the inspiration pic that we showed her. You can see that pic on the introductory post here. To our surprise, we managed to find the exact same wallpaper for her room here.

Pink and lavender can both become a bit much if they are over done. What I really love about this wallpaper is that the lavender has a strong grey undertone to it. This makes it more a neutral than a colour and even though we’ve covered an entire wall with it, we haven’t got too much lavender in the room.

Then came the rug. This room has no bed. So we have a huge floor space where the wide expanse of marble looked bare and cold. We wanted a big rug to cover it up and make the room warmer.

The bold pattern of this rug was perfect against our subtle wallpaper and we had the colours customised to fit in with our room colours. We layered it with another textured white rug, to break all that pattern. Layering also always helps to make a space more cozy.

Then came our pink soft board frame. We contrasted that with a polka dotted fabric in lavender, similar to our wallpaper and everything was tying in and neatly falling into place.

And so we decided to break the monotony of all the soft pastels with these bright curtains. Even though almost everything in this room is pink and lavender, it’s these curtains that set the tone of this room and brighten it all up at once.

The curtains also encouraged us to go bright with some of our cushion covers. So though most of them are pastels, a couple of bright pieces help to add the happy quotient to this room.

Before and Afters

Which brings us to the most fun part of our pink and lavender room reveal.

Let’s start with the bare window wall…

Which we made more efficient by adding book shelves on either side and brighter with the drapes and all those cushions.

Seamless transformation.Looking very pretty and great utilization of the window area. The combinations are also unique. Both pink n purple can be very stark if not used well. The pink and lavender is subtle , elegant , yet befitting of a child’s room.Well done- yet again !

Thanks Rashi! That pop of green in the curtains really helped us tone down all the pink and lavender 🙂
