We’re introducing the mint green master bedroom from our Mid Century Modern Home today. It’s a beautiful, large room… as large as a few living rooms I know in Mumbai! So working on this has been fun and freeing. To not be bound by limitations of space, as we usually are when we plan bedrooms in apartments here, was a new kind of freedom. And now that we’ve closed in on almost all the details , I myself can’t wait to see how it turns out.
But let me not reach the end before the beginning. So first up, here’s the plan.
The Plan
Can you see the room dimensions written down on that plan? I promise you my living room in my previous home was pretty much the same size! Yup.. so our master bedroom is definitely the most spacious one in this home.
This bedroom was originally divided into two parts. Where you see the dotted lines in front of the wardrobes we had a brick wall, that separated the sleeping area from the walk-in-wardrobe. The clients were very sure they wanted to break that down and make it a part of the room and I agreed with them. Even if we did have the wall there, the layout would remain pretty much the same.
We wouldn’t be able to place 2 rows of wardrobes behind this wall because the space is too narrow. So we would continue to have a single row of wardrobes. Only it would be inside a dark room with no natural light.
The bed would remain where it is at present, only that the wall would make the sleeping space look smaller.
So we tore the wall down and the result is this large, spacious bedroom.
The Arch
When we did tear the wall down, we realised that the ceiling on the walk-in side is slightly lower than the ceiling of the main bedroom. If we had to even out the ceiling across the entire bedroom, we would have to drop the whole false ceiling down by about a foot. That’s something we didn’t want to do. Why make a large room with a high ceiling look like it shrunk lower?
We decided to use a visual divider to separate the two areas which would help us keep the bedroom ceiling higher than the walk-in ceiling without it being noticeable. An arch seemed like the best option to separate the two areas.
I think an arch used well will always make a space beautiful. It’s also a great way to define one space from another without any break in floor space. See how beautifully the arch above separates the passage from the dining?
The drop of the arch also makes it possible for the ceilings on either side to be of different heights. The arch puts a divider in the ceiling and you can’t directly see the other side. So a minor difference in height goes easily unnoticed.
Our arch though, will run across the entire width of the room, and so will be wider and flatter, like the one below.

Wardrobe & Dressing
Since we had to give columns on both sides of our arch to support it, we decided to make good use of these too. We thought we’d make faux columns in wood. The inner side of these will open out to make a narrow storage cupboard, which makes the perfect little storage for our dressing area.
Do you remember how we used a mirror flush against the wall in our black and white bedroom?
We’ll do the same here on the wall between the wardrobe and our arch storage, and our dressing area is ready.
And the wardrobes? The client wanted a seamless white look for these, so that’s the simple plan here.. a wall of white wardrobes.
The Bed Wall
The bed wall will definitely be the hero of our mint green master bedroom. It’s a large expanse of space and we decided to use larger furniture to fill up the space proportionately. As with the rest of the home, the client wanted a classical look here. We’re going with a king sized bed with a beautiful, upholstered headboard.
Two large chest of drawers serve as grand side tables and take care of so much storage too.
And pendant lights hanging on either side of the bed always look so pretty.
Whether sweet and simple like the shade above, or glamorous like those below, they look great every time.
Remember the grey glass pendants that looked so beautiful in our black and white bedroom? We’ve planned some beautiful glass pendants for this bedroom too.
Mint Green Master Bedroom
Which finally brings us to the colour scheme for this bedroom. We went back and forth between a lot of options. Grey always seemed to play a part in all of them. But finally, thanks to this pretty, embroidered, pastel green fabric that we selected for the curtains, we settled down on green.
I’ve been feasting my eyes on mint green master bedrooms since then.
Or shall I say, all mint green interiors? I love the fresh feel that comes to any space with this pretty colour.
And I also think grey makes a beautiful combination with this colour. So we think hints of grey added to our bedroom along with the green will make this one beautiful space.
That about wraps up our plans for this pretty, mint green master bedroom. We’re done with almost all our selections, except for the accents like cushions and artwork. And those are what actually make a room come alive, right? Till these are selected, what the space is going to look like is like a little surprise package even for me. And I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
