Our next stop in this home tour, is the magnificent master bedroom of Keje. A silky grey, Italian marble floor, with pearly beige textured walls. Modern fluted wardrobes with vintage chandeliers. And customarily bright blues and reds used in subtle, muted shades. All these contradictory elements come together effortlessly to make this extravagant and luxurious bedroom. I can’t wait to show you all of it!
The Plan
This entrance of this large bedroom is through a small passage. I love how this gives any bedroom some privacy, versus having the door open straight into it. The only thing we changed here, was to put the entrance door, which was originally on one side, in the centre of that wall. You can see the before-after of the passage in the living room reveal to see how such a small change can make such a big difference.
Initially, the bedroom wall was in line with the passage wall (which can be seen as the dotted line of the beam). We shifted this wall back by a few inches so that we can get the entire storage in line. The full depth wardrobes in the bedroom continue in the same line as narrower storage for bags and shoes in the passageway.
Now that the storage is tucked away neatly to one side, we have the rest of this large room to do as we please. A king sized bed with side tables on either side went on one wall. The study table went on the wall exactly opposite the bed.
The plan is simple enough. It’s not so much what we did, but how we did it that makes this room special.
The Bed Wall
Given the size of this room and the height of the ceiling, we knew we had to use a large, imposing bed to make the room look grand. This tall, winged headboard did the trick for us. The wooden border with the brass tack detail defines it well and makes it stand out against the wall, even though the colours are similar.
The chandeliers on either side frame the bed beautifully and emphasise the high ceiling.
We kept the bedside tables simple and elegant. Though you’ll never guess by looking at the pics, these are relatively large sized tables. They look of about average size simply because they have been placed next to the large bed.
The Study Wall
Exactly opposite the bed, we have the study table. The large table helps centre everything on this end of the room.
We have used a comfortable chair that works two ways. It’s high and straight enough to be able to pull to the table when required. It is also cozy, with snug arm rests to be able to sit and enjoy a book or a cup of coffee.
The Wardrobe Wall
A wall full of storage is everybody’s dream come true! As you saw in the plan, on the right side of the beam we have full depth wardrobes. To the left of the beam is shallower storage with shelves for bags and shoes.
All that paneling also conceals the door to the bathroom. Painting it all white, helps to keep the room looking light in spite of all that extensive storage.
Master Bedroom of Keje
As with most of our rooms, we started buiding the colour scheme of this room with this stunning rug. It was a bit of a surprise to me that they picked this one, because the clients had always wanted light colours across the home. We decided to use muted shades of red and blue to stick to the brief.
A pearly beige textured wall gave us a chic, understated base for the entire room. We kept all the large pieces, like the headboard and bedcover, white to tone down the colour.
The curtains are again beige, with really fine embroidery with tiny sequins throughout. With the blue and red motifs embroidered on the white fabric, we allowed ourselves a little colour on the sheers.
We rounded up the bedding with the dull red and white quilt and deep blue and washed out red cushions.
On the opposite side, the inky blue chair is once again, restrained. The only pop of colour we added is that dazzling artwork. I love how the bright blues and streak of red seem to bring the room to life.
All the colours and finishes come together to make this bedroom sophisticated, calm and joyful, all at once.
Before and Afters
And to end the tour of the master bedroom of Keje, let’s see some before and afters.
The entrance to the bedroom…
We pushed the left wall back by a few inches and incorporated all the storage of this room along this one single wall.
The bed wall of the room is the first thing you see as you walk in.
The king sized bed with chandeliers on either side make it a first look to remember.
The wall opposite the bed..
.. is where we placed the large study table and chair.
The sitting area of this bedroom…
… is made by moving the same chair to the window corner for a seat with a great view.

your works are too amazing especially in kids room. Superb:-)
I love your work. Can you provide details of wall texture. Also loved the detail of painting the beam halfway white so as the depth is not entirely seen.
Thank you Manasi! This texture was custom made on site!
