There’s something magical about naming a home. It gives it character, a soul, a story of its own. This home, bathed in delicate shades of blush and warmth, is called Mio—inspired by the Japanese word for cherry blossom. Much like its namesake, Mio is gentle yet spirited, calm yet full of personality. Today, let’s begin with the living and dining of Mio.

Our clients wanted a space that was soft, serene, and deeply personal. The dusty pink that threads through the home became our guiding note—a whisper of bloom in every corner. And it begins right here, in the living and dining room.
Living and Dining of Mio
From the moment you enter, Mio wraps you in a quiet elegance. The living room is anchored in a calm, neutral base, with subtle layers of texture and that signature dusty pink making their appearance in playful yet restrained ways.
The Plan
Entrance & Foyer
The entryway into Mio is a quiet prelude to the elegance that follows. A narrow foyer, just under 4 feet wide, leads into the home. A slender shoe cabinet with a mirror above make it functional and beautiful. To the right of the entrance, we tucked in the crockery cum bar unit—strategically placed to be both accessible and visually subtle. It separates the transitional zone from the main living space while offering practical storage for dining essentials and glassware.
Living & Dining
The heart of this home is one long, unified room measuring approximately 21 feet by 11 feet. But instead of a vast open hall, we divided the space into a cozy living zone and an intimate dining corner.
Balcony
Through the living room, wide windows open into a slim but sunlit balcony. Measuring roughly 3.5 by 10.5 feet, it’s the kind of space that brings a breath of fresh air—both literally and visually. There is a comfortable chair one side, with a small coffee table and a swing on the opposite. This makes it an ideal corner for morning coffee or winding down with a book.
The Entrance
The story of Mio begins even before you step inside.
A muted cherry blossom hue washes over the main door—instantly setting the tone for the home beyond. Framed in classic moulding with vintage brass accents and an ornate grill at the centre, the door evokes old-world charm with a soft, contemporary whisper. It’s the kind of entrance that doesn’t just open a home; it offers a moment of pause.
A large potted plant adds a burst of green—a gentle contrast to the blush tones of the door. On the wall, a petite floral-framed nameplate and antique wall lantern quietly hint at the aesthetic that awaits inside: romantic, composed, and considered.

The foyer, painted in the same soft blush as the front door, envelops you in warmth the moment you step in.
A custom-designed shoe unit lines the wall—a sleek piece in warm walnut tones. Its silhouette is clean, with softly curved hardware and an open shelf below for shoes. Above it, a sculptural mirror framed in delicate wirework plays with light and shadow, echoing the gold birds that take flight further along the wall.

The Dining Area
Tucked to the side of the foyer and seamlessly extending from the living space, the dining area at Mio is compact, clever, and undeniably charming.
Instead of a typical rectangular layout, we designed a warm, circular nook around a round wooden table—an intentional choice that echoes the home’s soft, organic mood. The fixed bench seating wraps neatly around two walls. Each bench doubles up as storage, making the space quietly functional as well.
On the opposite side of the table, a pair of upholstered chairs in a pale floral print complete the setting. Their curved backs and soft blush base harmonize with the room’s colour story, while offering the flexibility of pull-away seating for when guests are over.

Above, a layered white glass pendant light cascades softly from the ceiling—a sculptural focal point that adds just the right dose of drama without breaking the room’s delicate rhythm.
And what’s a dining area without a little whimsy?
A flock of gold birds takes flight on the dusty pink wall, bringing a joyful energy and a sense of movement to the space. Their metallic sheen catches light from the pendant above, creating gentle shadows and moments of shimmer throughout the day.

What we love most about this corner is its blend of beauty and purpose. From built-in storage to flow-friendly furniture choices, every piece plays its part quietly, ensuring this dining nook never feels cramped—only cocooned.
The Living Area
Drenched in natural light from a wide balcony window, the room is laid out with intention.

A compact three-seater in an ivory ribbed boucle forms the anchor of the seating area. It’s flanked by a rounded floral armchair and a soft, upholstered pouf—each curved edge reinforcing the tender geometry that defines this home. The coffee table sits at the heart of it all.

Opposite the seating, the TV unit is a striking blend of materials. Rounded corners, rattan weave panels, and a deep walnut frame come together in a piece that feels more like crafted furniture than tech support.

The Balcony
Step through the tall glass sliders and you’re in one of Mio’s most charming corners—the balcony. It may be small in footprint, but in feeling, it’s expansive. This little ledge of calm sits just beyond the living room, perfectly perched to catch soft breezes and filtered light.
To the left, a cozy rattan chair invites you to settle in. Piled with textured cushions and angled beside a petite round table, it’s the perfect morning coffee spot or afternoon reading perch.

On the opposite side, a rattan swing chair hangs gently from the ceiling. Light in structure but high in comfort, it cradles a thick seat cushion and throw pillow—offering a slightly more playful, floaty take on the same retreat-like atmosphere.

Passageway: A Window into Whimsy
Leading to the private areas of the home, this passageway is anything but ordinary. It is adorned with a bespoke wallpaper mural that mimics a dreamy garden wall—climbing roses and ivy trail along a faux stone texture.

At its center, a weathered turquoise window frame is built into the wall—but instead of opening outdoors, it opens into a mirror. This charming illusion creates depth and surprise, turning a transitional space into a whimsical pause in the journey through the home.
Framed artwork along the hallway walls completes the narrative, hinting at a love for travel, nature, and storytelling.
Look and Feel
Living Room: Textures That Talk
The living area is an effortless blend of soothing textures and balanced contrast. At its heart lies a muted blush-and-ivory rug — its distressed floral pattern acting as a gentle anchor that ties every element together. The rug softens the marble floors and draws from the tones in both the upholstery and the wood furniture.

A boucle-striped sofa in a neutral tone is layered with richly textured throw pillows — floral, plaid, and velvet — creating visual depth without clashing.

Next to it, a single blush armchair echoes the motif of the dining chairs, bridging the palette across zones. The wooden coffee table brings in organic warmth with its live-edge top and sleek metal legs.

Opposite, a mid-century inspired TV console grounds the space. With its cane-front cabinet doors and spherical feet, it complements the handcrafted character of the home. Framed by floor-length patterned drapes, lush indoor plants soften the corners and infuse the space with vibrancy.

Dining Nook: Soft Nostalgia with a Hint of Glam
This sleek crockery unit acts as a visual anchor, seamlessly bridging the living area on its left with the dining nook on its right. Its clean lines and warm wood tones tie the two spaces together while adding both function and finesse.

Tucked into a warm corner of the home, the dining nook feels like a love letter to vintage cafes. The walls are dipped in a blush-toned pink that sets a soft, romantic tone. A custom-made L-shaped banquette runs along the corner, upholstered in a muted print that brings pattern without overwhelming the space. A rounded wooden dining table anchors the area, flanked by matching blush-print chairs that echo the palette.
Above, a sculptural pendant light cascades gently from the ceiling, its white layers creating a soft glow. On the walls, a flock of golden metal birds adds whimsy and a touch of glam, breaking the pastel softness with a playful shimmer.

Nearby, the crockery-cum-bar unit in warm walnut tones complements the softness with weight and function, styled with curated pieces — a terrarium, a blush-hued vase, a framed landscape — that feel personal and grounded.

The space is grounded by wood accents—from the furniture to the decorative console—offering both function and form in perfect balance.

Balcony: A Verdant Urban Escape
The balcony, framed by sheer drapes and a tall indoor plant, offers a serene extension of the living space. A wicker swing with soft cushions invites slow mornings and sunset unwinds.

Opposite, a bamboo chair and matching round table create a perfect tea-time corner. Wall planters bursting with greenery and flowering vines soften the urban view. The balcony feels like a tranquil pocket garden suspended above the city. Cane pendant lights overhead further enhance the earthy, breezy vibe.
