Pantone has announced it’s Colour of the Year 2019. It’s a bright, happy colour called ‘Living Coral’ described as ‘an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.’
While last year’s dramatic violet was one of my favourite colours, it was a little difficult to use. Living Coral is just the opposite. It’s a beautiful shade between orange and red which will look great whether used in small accents or as a large back drop.
Living Coral – Pantone Colour Of The Year 2019
I haven’t used this colour in a big way myself as yet, but I can totally see myself designing a space using this colour. In the meanwhile, I searched the net for inspiration pics to get me started and found a whole lot that I loved. I’m sharing some of my favourite with you today.
Just A Hint Of Living Coral:
I absolutely love how the coral chair adds a pop of colour to this otherwise neutral space. The coral makes this reading corner look friendly and inviting.
Here’s another space where Living Coral is used in the exact same way. Notice how both the spaces use bold pattern in neutrals. And then the solid pop of coral adds a little bit of sunshine.
I noticed, surprisingly, that I didn’t like just coral-and-white spaces. I found them too ‘sweet’ and thought they looked great only in nurseries. In other spaces, I preferred the coral to be teamed up with a neutral to ground it. This could be black, grey or even a wood tone.
This bedroom, for instance, is almost coral-and-white. But the solid wood chest of drawers and the hint of grey in the comforter ground the space really well.
Let’s Go Bold With It:
And then there are these spaces which use Living Coral predominantly. The ikat pattern on the sofa is delightful and I’m loving the use of rattan as a neutral in this space. It brings out the golden hues in the coral beautifully.
This space had my heart the second I saw it. A simple coral back drop with black furniture in clean lines to contrast it. This is simplicity at its best.
The pretty curtains bring in a burst of Living Coral into this sweet nursery. The hints of pink, blue and gold make this room so much more exciting.
It’s coral bedding and upholstery doing the magic in this room. But notice how the natural finish in the chandelier, chest of drawers and the rug ground the bright corals.
A rug of the colour works its wonder in this living room. It also helps to tie in all the other colours here. In fact, I think coral goes really with with a lot of other colours… especially blues and greens.
Living Coral With Other Colours:
My favourite colour to combine with Living Coral has got to be blue. Whether it’s delicately combined with a powder blue…
… or more boldly with a Navy, I think both blue and coral bring out the best in each other.
This room is a dream come true for any little girl. The greige plays a perfect neutral to the different shades of blue and coral.
This room uses brighter shades of both blue and coral in almost equal measure, and I love how it’s turned out. Don’t miss the Living Coral chandelier on the ceiling!
This was the only space that really stopped me in my tracks where Living Coral was NOT combined with a blue. The bright green bed and the natural wood finished of the chest of drawers give this bedroom a fresh, tropical feel.
All-Coral Spaces:
I didn’t like too many spaces that were all coral. I do think too much of a good thing is a bad thing. But a few of these caught my eye.
I think this dining room works because of the so-many-other-colours that balance out that large coral wall. And like I said earlier, coral does seem to work well with most other colours.
The other spaces which caught my eye were these bathrooms.
I absolutely love the black, white and straight, sleek look of this bathroom. Simply stunning!
This one is coral and white.. with no other neutral colour to ground it. But I’m still loving the off beat wallpaper with coral motifs on it. I can’t seem to get this one out of my head!
