Stepping beyond the foyer, the living and dining room of Vrindavan open up as a warm, layered space where everyday life and quiet moments comfortably coexist. Natural light filters in through soft curtains, washing over earthy tones, textured surfaces, and thoughtfully placed pieces. Traditional influences appear in subtle ways, through patterns, materials, and handcrafted details, while the overall planning remains relaxed and contemporary.

This is the heart of the home, expressive yet calm, rooted yet easy to live in.

The Layout

The living and dining room of Vrindavan are planned as one generous, open zone, allowing the family to move easily between lounging, entertaining, and dining. Measuring approximately 22’-7” x 16’-11”, the space feels expansive without losing its sense of intimacy.

The living area occupies the largest portion of the room, anchored by a sofa arrangement and a centre table, creating a comfortable conversation zone. This sits in easy visual and physical connection with the dining table placed toward one end of the space, making everyday meals and gatherings feel naturally connected rather than segmented.

Along one side, the bar area is tucked into a dedicated niche. While it forms an important part of the overall composition, it has been planned as its own pocket, something we’ll dive into in the next post.

The Seating Arrangement

The seating in the living area is planned as a relaxed conversation cluster rather than a formal, front-facing setup. A pair of sofas face each other across a central coffee table, creating a natural sense of balance and encouraging easy interaction.

Between the two sofas, a swing is introduced as a playful, slightly unexpected element. It adds movement, softness, and a strong sense of personality to the space, while also doubling up as an extra perch when the home is full.

Loose side tables and a small accent stool float around the seating, making the arrangement feel flexible and lived-in rather than fixed. Together, these pieces form a composition that feels inviting, comfortable, and designed for long conversations, afternoon lounging, and slow evenings.

The Connecting Console

Positioned between the living and dining areas, this gorgeous console acts as a soft divider, defining zones without interrupting the open flow. Instead of a wall or partition, a piece of furniture does the job, keeping the space visually connected and feeling generous.

The console’s carved wooden form brings in a strong sense of craftsmanship, while its lighter finish ensures it doesn’t feel heavy or imposing. Styled with layered objects, books, and small decor accents, it becomes both functional surface and visual anchor.

From the living side, it reads as a backdrop to the seating arrangement. From the dining side, it feels like a console in its own right. It’s one of those elements that quietly stitches the two spaces together, doing exactly what good design should, separating and connecting at the same time.

Swinging into the Good Life

And then there’s the swing. Suspended on sculptural metal chains and finished in warm wood, it becomes both a seat and a statement. Anchored within the living area yet visually porous, it adds a gentle sense of movement and nostalgia to the space. Beyond it, the eye travels effortlessly toward the dining zone, where a more formal rhythm takes over.

Pull Up a Chair

Beyond the swing, the living area gently gives way to the dining space, and the transition feels almost effortless. There’s no hard boundary here, just a quiet shift in mood, guided by placement, proportions and light.

The dining table sits comfortably in line with the living zone, anchored by a cluster of upholstered chairs that bring softness and pattern into the composition. Their delicate prints echo the layered textiles in the living area, creating a visual continuity that ties the two spaces together.

Overhead, the sculptural pendant lights drop like jewellery, adding a sense of occasion without overpowering the room. Their warm brass tones pick up on accents seen elsewhere, reinforcing the home’s cohesive material language.

Sheer curtains wash the entire dining area in natural light through the day, while heavier drapes frame the edges.

Let There Be Glow

Those delicate glass pendants with their sculpted brass stems feel like little drops of warm sunshine floating overhead. They add just the right hint of drama without shouting, casting a soft, flattering glow that makes dinners linger longer and conversations feel cozier. Pretty, poetic, and perfectly in tune with the home’s layered story.

Vrindavan on the Walls

This wallpaper mural is more than a backdrop. It is the soul of the home and the reason behind its name. Spanning the entire length of the space, it sets the narrative, the mood, and the colour language in one sweeping gesture.

This wallpaper is Vrindavan. At its heart sits Srinathji, surrounded by lush landscapes, gentle scenes, and layered narratives that together evoke the spirit of the sacred town. A quiet reminder that devotion here isn’t tucked away, it lives, breathes, and unfolds across the walls.

Placed along the primary axis of the living area, the mural naturally becomes the first thing your eye is drawn to. Everything else, furniture, finishes, lighting, and accessories, gently takes its cue from here. It anchors the space visually, but more importantly, it gives the home its personality: layered, warm, and deeply rooted in craft and storytelling.

The Palette with a Story

The living and dining spaces of Vrindavan continue the colour story introduced right at the entrance, with the deep green main door quietly setting the tone for what unfolds inside. Shades of green reappear here in the upholstery, soft furnishings, and accents, creating a subtle visual continuity across the home.

Wood forms the backbone of the material palette, seen in the coffee tables, swing seat, and furniture detailing, bringing warmth and familiarity. Soft upholstery in muted greens and greys adds comfort while keeping the palette grounded and calm.

Details quietly do a lot of heavy lifting here. Tiny inlay accents punctuate the stone flooring, adding moments of surprise without breaking the calm. The skirting picks up these colours and motifs, creating a gentle visual rhythm along the edges. Rich mouldings on the doors and frames bring in depth and craftsmanship, reinforcing the home’s layered, almost heirloom-like character.

Light neutral walls and sheer curtains gently balance the deeper tones, keeping the room bright without losing depth.

Subtle touches of brass, in the swing chains, pendant lights and decor accents, add a quiet hint of sheen. Together, the materials create a space that feels layered yet relaxed, rich but never overwhelming, very much in keeping with the spirit of Vrindavan.

Before & After | The Living Room

Before: An open, raw concrete shell with good light and proportions.

After: The living room is now layered, warm, and deeply inviting. Thoughtful zoning creates a comfortable conversation area anchored by the rug, swing, and coffee table, while maintaining an easy flow toward the dining space. A rich mix of woods, textiles, soft greys, and signature greens replaces stark surfaces, adding depth and softness. Curated furniture, art, and lighting bring personality into the space, transforming it from a blank volume into a soulful, lived-in heart of the home.

Before & After | The Mural Wall

Before: A raw, unfinished wall that was simply part of the apartment shell.

It anchors the entire space, sets the cultural and emotional tone of the home, and quietly explains the project’s name. More than décor, it becomes an immersive backdrop, a daily reminder of devotion, craftsmanship and narrative-led design.
