In the bustling heart of Mumbai, where space is precious and life rarely slows down, we created a home that does just that — slow things down. Sukoon, which means peace, is a compact 3BHK apartment designed for a family of four — a couple, their almost-adult son, and a young daughter just shy of her teens. Today let’s walk through the living and dining of Sukoon.
Living and Dining of Sukoon
The brief was simple yet profound: make it functional, keep it light, and let it feel like a deep exhale at the end of a long day. Every corner of this home is quietly intentional — with soft colours, gentle finishes, and smart planning that makes the most of every inch. It may be a small apartment, but Sukoon is full of space to breathe.

The Layout
This home doesn’t have a conventional foyer, so we did what we often love to do in small spaces — create function where none exists. Right next to the entrance, we placed a slender sideboard that doubles up as a shoe cabinet.
Straight ahead you’re gently pulled into the living room — a cozy, calming space designed for togetherness. A classic 3-seater sofa anchors the main wall, with an armchair on one side to complete an inviting circle around the coffee table. The window ledge extends across the far wall, offering additional seating or simply a spot to curl up with a book. The TV unit is tucked neatly into the opposite wall, visible from all angles but never dominating the room.

Just beyond the living zone, the dining area tucks itself neatly into the adjacent wall. To optimise circulation, we used a banquette-style bench against the wall, paired with comfortable chairs on the opposite side. This allows the dining table to stay close to the wall, opening up a wider walkway that leads toward the kitchen. A custom-designed crockery and bar unit sits snugly in the niche behind, serving both dining and entertaining needs without adding visual bulk.
No Foyer? No Problem.
Let’s just say Sukoon skips the dramatic entry — and dives straight into real life. There’s no formal foyer here, but who’s complaining? We snuck in a sleek sideboard right by the main door that doubles up as a shoe cabinet. It’s the perfect drop zone for keys, bags, shoes, and those things that somehow always end up in your hand when you walk in.

Add some spot lights, a mirror, a hint of green — and just like that, we have ourselves a faux foyer. Compact, calm, and completely clutter-free.
Sofa. Coffee Table. Chill.
The living room at Sukoon is where the magic happens — Netflix, nap, neighbour gossip — all of it. We planned a neat little conversation circle with a classic 3-seater sofa, a comfy armchair, and a coffee table that brings everyone together.

The TV is tucked into the opposite wall (visible but not screaming for attention).

The full-length window seat runs along the far wall — perfect for extra guests or lazy Sunday lounging.

It’s one of those spaces that feels bigger than it is, because everything just works. Cozy, calm, and never trying too hard.
Dining, With a Side of Storage
Just a few steps away (okay, maybe two), you walk right into the dining area — where we packed in style, storage, and seating without eating into space.

A custom bench lines one side of the dining table, pushing the whole setup closer to the wall and freeing up a wider walkway. It’s smart, snug, and social.

Behind the bench, we slid in a full-height crockery and bar unit. What looks like a clean, minimal wall is actually hiding a little secret — ta-da! — a sleek, hidden bar cabinet!

The shutters blend right into the panelling, so unless you know where to push, you’d never guess that there’s a party waiting behind those doors. From glassware to gin, everything tucks neatly into lit-up shelves that appear only when you need them.
And when you don’t? It’s just a pretty wall with framed art and not a hint of what’s inside. Function, meet illusion. We call it stealth chic.
Earthy, Textured, and Totally Sukoon
This living room is a gentle ode to earth tones, soft textures and natural finishes — nothing flashy, just a whole lot of calm and quiet confidence.
We kept the colour palette grounded in rust, clay, leafy greens and warm browns, with each material adding its own layer to the story. The suede sofa brings in a sun-baked terracotta warmth, while the softly curved armchair next to it plays off with its woven tweed and a chunky rust cushion. It’s like a casual conversation between materials — relaxed, inviting, and totally in sync.

The TV unit, with its dark wood and rattan shutters, adds just the right dose of old-school charm, while indoor plants flank either side, keeping the vibe fresh and lived-in. And speaking of lived-in… let’s talk about that rug.

This one’s the real star — a riot of muted jewel tones and floral motifs that somehow pulls everything together. The greens echo the plants, the rusts nod to the cushions, the creams ground the space, and those subtle purples and teals? They just add to the fun.

This rug doesn’t just sit in the room. It holds it. It connects.
A Warm and Whimsical Dining Nook
The dining area of Sukoon stays grounded in earthy tones, with deep wood finishes, rusty oranges, and subtle patterns. They all work together to create a space that’s both practical and full of personality.
The solid wood dining table anchors the room with its beautiful grain and quiet strength. On one side, we have comfy chairs upholstered in a soft ikat-style fabric. On the other side, a tailored rust-upholstered banquette bench that brings both colour and comfort. Add a pair of textured cushions, and you’ve got yourself a cozy corner where long family dinners and lazy breakfasts both feel welcome.

Above the bench, the wall-mounted face masks add a delightful touch of quirk. In muted shades of coral, ivory, blush, taupe and sage, these masks are a conversation starter. But in a very “I-stumbled-upon-these-in-a-hidden-gallery” kind of way. Their colours echo the palette of the room without overwhelming it.

On the other end, a custom bar cabinet is cleverly hidden behind what looks like a clean panelled wall. The cabinets below bring in more warm wood tones. And of course, that fabulous silvery pendant lighting overhead — a bit industrial, a bit glam, and totally unexpected.

A touch of green on the sideboard, a bowl of fresh fruit on the table, and a few smiley masks. This dining corner is anything but boring.
Before and Afters
Before: A plain wall, a bulky cabinet, and absolutely no vibe.

After: A coral-print cabinet brings in colour and storage, while a round gold mirror adds instant glam. A peace lily softens the corner and welcomes you in with a smile.

Before: Dark finishes, bulky furniture, and a space that felt closed in.

After: A warm tan sofa, soft lighting, and a pop of colour from the artwork make the room feel light and breathable. The patterned rug and green window seat bring just the right amount of play.

Before: A large bulky sofa that filled up the space. The clients also wanted a television in the living room.

After: A fresh white wall, cane-detailed TV unit, and a slim clock above keep things clean and centered. Add a couple of happy greens, and it’s suddenly a space that feels calm, not cluttered.

Before: Dark, boxy and best described as ‘the dining nook that time forgot’.

After: A fresh take on earthy elegance—warm wood tones, woven textures, and coral accents now bring in joy. And those cheeky face masks? They watch over every meal, silently judging your table manners.

And that’s a wrap on the living and dining of Sukoon —a space where neutrals got cozy with colour, textures flirted with tones, and every corner now hums with calm, curated charm. From rust-hued cushions to cheeky wall masks, and rugs that tie it all together, this home is now serving warmth, whimsy, and a whole lot of style.
