I am super excited today, because I have waited such a long time to share my favourite space of this home with you.. the living and dining room of Sylver. It is large, airy and spacious, yet envelopes you in a cozy, warm and vibrant hug that will make you never want to leave. So put your feet up and get comfortable.. because you’ll be hanging around here for a while.
The Plan
Yes, I did say it was a large living room, didn’t I?
You enter the space through the passage coming in from the main door. A passage on the opposite side leads to the bedrooms. These passages neatly divide the large hall into a living and dining area.
Since they did not want a TV in here, we have a cozy seating circle in the larger part of the hall, making the living area. A snug six seater fits against the wall in the dining area.
In the lower left of the plan, you can see the collapsible walls of the entertainment cum guest room. When I revealed that room, you saw what it looked like closed. Today you’ll see what it looks like open, as part of the living room.
The Living Area
The idea was to make this a space that is intimate and inviting whether it’s two people sitting over a cup of coffee, or a large gathering of friends. I think we achieved that quite well.
The larger sofas on both sides hold the ring together.
While the chairs alongside help close the circle and bring everyone together.
We have a similar set up on the opposite side, with a large sofa in the centre and a pair of chairs on either side.
We had initially planned two coffee tables, one in front of each sofa. But eventually thought that would look too crowded.
This coffee table island was just what we were looking for. It sits well in the centre without taking up too much space. The tables can also be separately be moved around the living room as per the requirement, making it very convenient to use.
The Dining Area
On the opposite side we have the dining table against one wall of the dining area. The sideboard opposite the dining serves as the bar.
This corner has my heart, and I absolutely love how all the different elements came together to bring it to life.
Opposite the dining table, we also have the collapsible wall of the entertainment room. It runs between the sofa and the bar. So when shut, the sofa goes into the entertainment room, while the bar stays inside the dining room.
When open, the bar fits beautifully behind the sofa, and the entertainment room becomes a part of the living room.
A view from the living area will show you how comfortably it gels in with the living room.
Living and Dining Room of Sylver
As always, we started building on our living and dining colours with the rugs. As you can see above, we carried the purples and greys of the guest room rug and sofa, into the dining room rug.
Since we didn’t want it all purple, we picked the pinks and greens from this rug for the cushions and upholstery of the dining space. The dining bench is upholstered in a pretty pink paisley pattern, with this deep green cushion with pink flowers making a striking contrast to it.
Our living room rug also has pinks and purples… along with a whole lot of earthy yellows and oranges.
The client wanted vibrant colour in the living room, as opposed to the greys of the entertainment area. I wanted to make sure that the colours all make sense together, because at most times, the entertainment room would be open and visible from the living.
I thought earth tones would go best with the cement and stone textures of the entertainment room.
So we have the greys and purples of the guest room…
Moving into the pinks and oranges of one end of the living room…
Harmonising with the oranges and yellows of the opposite side.
And it all comes together beautifully to make a vibrant, earthy, happy space.
A view of the entertainment room from the dining area..
And of the dining area from the entertainment room, shows you just how beautifully!
Befores and Afters
This is my favourite way to share a sense of the entire space and the extent of the makeover. So here goes..
The living area..
… made into a cozy space for gathering with family and friends.
We removed the coves and low pelmets…
To truly show off it’s high ceiling.
The dining wall..
… with its vibrant baskets and pendants, makes my favourite corner of this home.
The entertainment room wall..
… which we replaced with a collapsible one to make the entertainment room a part of the living room.

Loving how bright and big it looks, especially the curtains!
Love this whole design and colour combination. Can you please tell me where can I buy these two sofas and chairs if I want to create a similar space?
Thanks Pooja. The sofas are from Blue Dot Design and Asian Paints. I had a bad experience with the chair vendor so won’t be sharing that source.
Hi Ritika, love the whole space! It looks like a good wedding of colors – subtle, yet packs a punch! Great job!!
I was wondering how were you able to incorporate lighting into the ceiling after removing coves and the low pelmets. Do you still have a false ceiling in the space for ceiling lights?
Thanks!!
Thank you! Yes, we still have a 4″ plain false ceiling to fit in all our ceiling lights.
Hi Ritika !!
Love what you have done with this room… the clouds are so bright and warm . A quick question, the dining table is beautiful. Can I know where you bought it from … thank you and kudos to you .
Thanks Rakhi! The dining table is from Fabuliv.
How beautifully you have created and decorated the space . I just love the entertainment room idea. Colours used are just awesome and are blending well
