Today, we take a walk through this beautifully dreamy little girl’s room from Sylver. It’s sweet, pretty and just what little girl’s dreams are made of. Well, at least our 8 year old thinks so!
The Plan
This is a good sized room to begin with. We have used light furniture and light colours to keep it looking that way. Let me show you how we planned the space.
Both the parents were quite clear that they wanted to give their little girl as much space as possible for her to have her friends over and play. And so the first thing we did was to plan a day bed instead of a double bed.
The study table went next to the bed and the wardrobes fit in neatly behind the door along the wall on the right.
Since we fit all the furniture in an ‘L’ along two walls of the room, the rest of the room is open and free to use as she pleases.
The Day Bed
We had this day bed custom made in the size of a single bed. This means it works perfectly as a seating and lounging area during the day, and our little girl can comfortably sleep on it at night.
She can also open it out into a double bed whenever required.
The Study Table
To the right of the bed, we have our little girl’s study table. A single row of drawers help her organise her stationery.
I love that we managed to fit it right in front of the little window. Nothing like natural light and a beautiful view to inspire you to work!
Since the wardrobe runs right next to it, we had the wardrobe end into open shelves alongside the table. We also provided two external drawers in this wardrobe. She can use these drawers for her books and school paraphernalia without having to open the wardrobe shutters.
The bed and study table, side by side, make up almost all of this wall. To the left of the bed we also have a small side table with drawers.
The Wardrobe
The wall adjacent to our bed wall houses all this little girl’s storage.
Since she is a fashionista in the making, we made sure to add a beautiful dressing area for her. She can store away her make up and cosmetics in the storage cabinet behind the mirror.
I love how that full length mirror amplifies the ceiling height of this room.
The Swing
Since we placed all our furniture along two sides of this room we managed to give this little girl what she’d asked us from day one.. a swing.
With the flowing white macrame and the large, candy floss like cushion, this is by far my favourite spot in this room.
I also love how our faux fur throw rug at the foot of the swing adds to the soft, dreamy vibe of this corner.
Little Girl’s Room From Sylver
Our little girl’s favourite colours are lavender and purple and I am always cautious when I use these. I think think they can seem to be overused only too quickly and make the space cloyingly sweet. So the idea was to use them in small bursts as accents, keeping white as the base.
Being a large piece of furniture, we chose a greyish lavender for the bed, so as to stick to neutral tones.
We contrasted that with a waist height band, in brighter shades of purple, running all around the room.
The curtains have stars and hearts in shades of purple and silver, interspersed with silver sequins that twinkles in the night light. Yet the fabric itself is white, once again to tone down the purples.
The upholstery on the study chair, the cushions and throw, all add the pinks, purples.. along with a dash of other colours.
As does the rug.
All in all, we have a room that looks lavender, without truly being so. Just about right, isn’t it?
Making it Girly-Girl
And finally, the little things that we added to make this room all cute and girly-girl.
Pretty lights always make a space look soft, sparkly and delicate. The concealed lighting in our bookshelves…
And the glamourous lights along the dressing mirror, both work beautifully here.
We added a little whimsy to the art wall by randomly putting these delicate, easy to stick on butterflies around the artwork.
And of course, the macrame swing was all the dream factor we needed to make this little girl’s room from Sylver as cute and sweet as her.
Before and Afters
The wall you first see as you enter the room…
We lined up the day bed and study table against it.
The odd little window in that corner…
Made the perfect study corner for this room with it’s amazing view and natural light.
The wardrobe wall…
Which we completely replanned to include her bookshelves and her glamourous dressing table.
And finally the window wall…
The view which added all things fanciful as compared to the wholly practical opposite side, and made this a dream room for our little girl.
