I am so happy to share our little girl’s bedroom reveal with you today. This was a fun project because, well, doing a kids rooms always is! It was also relatively easy because our ‘client’, a sweet, chirpy 6 year old, knew exactly what she wanted. If you haven’t already read how she guided us through the planning stages, you must read the introductory post to this room here.
All decisions were taken quickly. I would send a selected pic to mom who would show it to our little girl and the answer was a straight yes or no. And because the answers were so clear, I very quickly knew what she would and would not like too.
Little Girl’s Bedroom Reveal:
The end result is finally here and little girl, mommy and me are all quite happy with it. Let me take you through it, and I think you will be too!
The Plan:
This was the plan, as I showed you in the introductory post. Most of it remained the same right till the end, except for one minor change. Little girl realised she didn’t really want that stage curtain, so we swapped it for a soft board instead.
But let me take you through all the details, one at a time.
The Window Wall:
This is the first thing you see as you enter the room. If you remember, there was a split AC unit above the window with the ducting exposed. Since this is a rental home, we didn’t want to do any major changes, so we had no option but to leave that ducting as is.
But there was no reason we couldn’t beautify the rest of the room.
As mentioned in our last post, she had already selected this wallpaper for her room. We picked the blue and lavender from it as our room colours.
We started with the curtains. We removed the heavy dull beige curtains that were there and got these pretty curtains instead.
Instead of choosing blue and lavender curtains we selected a pretty sheer in white and used alternate panels of blue and lavender lining behind it. This lights up the room softly in those colours without really overdoing the colours themselves.
We also used a string of white pom-poms along the pleats on top and on the border below to make them all girly-girl.
The Bed Wall:
This space is pretty much taken over by that big bunk bed. Space wise, we had suggested a smaller bed. But our little girl wanted a bigger one. The almost queen size bed at the bottom allows her to sometimes cuddle with mommy before falling asleep and also helps when guests are over. She also wanted the separate staircase with a landing built on the side to play on.
So a bigger bed it was.
The Wardrobes:
The wardrobes, if you remember had a pink laminate band running on top, at the skirting and on a whole set of drawers. None of us liked that shade of pink, and once the colour scheme for the room was selected we realised the pink would stick out like a sore thumb anyway.
Our solution was again a quick fix since this is a rental. We couldn’t paint on laminate or change the laminate. What we did was select the right shade of blue and order wallpaper in the given sizes. We then covered all the pink bands with blue wallpaper. Not expensive, not permanent and looks great I think!
Study & Display Wall:
That left us one wall to put everything else she needed. We started with her little doll seat and her soft board in place of the ‘stage’ we had planned. The bookshelves came on either side just as planned earlier.
She has a ton of books since she loves reading. We peppered them with some of her soft toys and a plant or two to make the shelves more interesting.
The colourful book spines and her artwork take care of all the colour pop we need in the room.
We added a colourful pouffe for her to read on, or chat with her dolls.
That pretty rug fit in perfectly. The deep blue gives a good base to the lighter colours elsewhere, and the pattern and pops of colour make it just right for a little child’s room.
To the right of this reading area we neatly fit in her study table. There is an extra chair for the days she needs mommy to help with homework or wants to paint with a friend.
Before & After:
And that about completes our little girl’s bedroom reveal. Let me share a few before and afters before I go.
The window wall is the first that you see as you enter the room.
To the right of this, we have placed the bed.
The wardrobes were already there. We changed the pink bands to blue to go with the room.
And finally our display cum reading cum study wall…
