Lighting is one of the most important design elements in a home. It is also one of my favourites to play with. So I’m here today with the Lighting Roundup 2023, sharing all the amazing light fittings we’ve used in the past year.

Lighting Roundup - Our favourite light fittings

Lighting Roundup 2023

Just from the four pics above, you can see how we can use light fixtures to enhance the design style of a space. You pick something bold that makes a statement, or pick a fixture that subtly integrates with all the other design elements. Either way, light fittings go a long way in writing the story of your home.

Let me share some of the beautiful stories we’ve written in the past year.

1 – Ceiling Lights

I’m starting this lighting roundup 2023 with the most commonly used fittings across most homes – hanging lamps.

Mallawi Hanging Lamp Bloom

A simple pendant for this narrow, windowless passageway gives us ample illumination here while keeping the vibe light.

Black Metal Chandelier

We picked this bold, vintage style fixture to go with the grand ambience of this beautiful bedroom, and stand out against the textured walls.

Yellow Metal Pendant

The client wanted a green and yellow kitchen. The green came with the kitchen cabinets and the eucalyptus leaves on the wallpaper. For the yellows, we used brass hardware, gold finished metal breakfast stools with yellow leatherette, those tiny yellow flowers on the wallpaper… and these bright yellow pendant lights!

Brass Pendant Cluster

We picked this mix of brass pendants of different shapes and sizes to enhance the traditional vibe that we created with the use of carvings, motifs and prints across this stunning home. The dining lights are the show stoppers of this beautiful living and dining space.

So In Love Chandelier

This is one of the rare cases when we didn’t place the fan directly above the table because we shifted the table into the corner. The fan stayed in the centre of the room. This allowed us to fix our light directly above the dining table. We picked this large, round, glamourous fitting to go above the round table.

Meant For Me Chandelier

On the far corner of the same living and dining space, we picked this brass and crystal chandelier to go with the dining fitting.  This one is longer, so that it fills in the corner well.

Merriam Hanging Lamp

Finally, further still, we have these two pendants in the balcony. As you can see, we’ve used brass and gold finishes extensively across this living and balcony space, and these lights stay in tune with the vibe.

Hera Chandelier

If you’ve been around this blog and my insta page, by now you’ve probably read more than once, how we picked this octagonal chandelier to go with the octagonal mirror in front. And how the black and gold of both goes so beautifully with the black and gold console table!

Paradise Blues Pendant Light

The name does full justice to this fitting, doesn’t it? The beautiful blue glass surely made a paradise of our tropical bar area!

Mykonos Memories

One of the advantages of this chandelier is that even though it spreads horizontally lower down, at the ceiling it is attached by a narrower base. This makes it an ideal choice for dining tables because you can fit a fan into the space between the two rods.

Just Like Heaven Pendant

Though this pendant is a coffee brown colour, it’s dark enough to go with all the black accents in this bathroom.

Chapeau Silver Pendant

The silvery grey shade of this pendant goes perfectly well with our dark grey wallpaper and tiles, and also adds a touch of glamour to this powder bathroom.

Rose Gold Pendant

We picked these rose gold pendants to go with all the rose gold fittings of the bathroom.

Nathan A Pendant

These simple pendants add drama while keeping with the mid-century vibe of this living and dining space.

Peacemaker Pendant

Given the small size of this room, we picked this simple pendant to keep the room visually light.

2 – Wall Lights

Next on the lighting roundup 2023, let’s take stock of the wall light fittings we’ve used and loved.

Globe Wall Sconce

A simple, classical piece to go into this simple, classical father’s bedroom. The vertical length of this fitting highlights the vertical moulding panel on the wall.

Fluted Glass Sconce

Another classical piece, this time for father’s bathroom. I love how the vertical flutes of the glass contrast the horizontal grooves of the wall tile.

Serpens Reading Light

We truly love this sleek, smart reading light. So much so that we’ve used it in not one, but two recent projects.

First, to go with the black and gold chandelier in this luxurious master bedroom.

Next, as a reading light in this fun, colourful girls’ room.

Cerchio Reading Light

Speaking of reading lights, here is another one of our favourites. You’ve seen this used before in the master bedroom of the Blue Door Project. You see it again here in this little girls’ room. The rose gold base is just perfect for this peach paradise!

Glass Wall Sconce

The compact size of these pretty lamps is just perfect for the small space above the bed we have here.

Show Me Love Wall Light

We went with a slightly larger piece here, since we have ample space and wanted it to stand out against the pattern of the upholstered headboard.

Calgary 1 Lamp

And back to small ones here. Though we have enough wall space beside the headboard, we have a wardrobe door opening on the other side of the bed. We had to make sure the wardrobe door didn’t hit the light when open.

Coffee Break Wall Light

This insanely long passageway needed a lot to brighten it up. I picked these wall lamps for the brown colour that goes so well with all the beautiful wood work in this home, and the fabric shades which soften the look of the entire space.

Feeling Flawless Wall Light

This is another narrow passageway, though not as long as the one above. The idea again was to light it up without the fittings looking too heavy in the already narrow space. The glass stems with white shades help them look light and beautiful all at once.

Black Outdoor Lights

These beautiful wall lights make beautiful patterns on the wall while lighting up the terrace subtly in a soft, indirect light.

3 – Table Lamps

With all the gorgeous ceiling and wall lights we’ve used, looks like we haven’t given much importance to table lamps in the last year. So we have only this one making the lighting roundup 2023.

Brass Antique Gold Lamp

These delicate table lamps look elegant and have presence without taking up too much table space thanks to their slender stems.
