Lighting plays a huge role in the ambience of any space, and getting the lights right can go a long way towards making your room spectacular. Today, we bring to you all the lights we’ve used in our projects over the last year… our lighting roundup 2020.
Lighting Roundup 2020
We spend a lot of time selecting just the right lights for any room. As much thought goes into the lights as the furniture, rugs, cushions or anything else. Should the light be bright or soft? Focused on a particular spot to highlight it or an ambient glow to set the mood? Do we want to place it on the floor, or a table or suspend it from the ceiling? Does the shape, material and finish go with the decor style of our space or not? There are a whole lot of questions we ask ourselves before we sit down for selections.
Here today, are the answers we found to them. Let’s start with the first…
Bert & Bram Pendants
This is one of the most magical bedrooms we’ve created so far, and it just wouldn’t have been the same without these pendant lights.
What we tried to do in the room, was to bring the wallpaper to life. We saw all those beautiful lamps hanging in the wallpaper and thought we’d hang similar pendants in front of it to merge the real with the make believe.
The Bert and the Bram fit the bill perfectly. Though exactly the same in shape and size, the Bram is made of completely clear glass, while the Bert uses an antique, vintage type glass which fit in perfectly with the ambience here. We used a mix of both and the result is here for you to see.

Black Kitchen Pendants
We had very specific requirements for the pendants for this kitchen counter. We wanted a set of three, one to go above each photograph. They had to be black to make the right impact against that beautiful striped wallpaper. Finally, since we were going to suspend them from a narrow beam above the breakfast table, we had to make sure they were small in size, else they would hit the wall.
We loved this set of three black pendants instantly. And I love how the different shapes add drama to our focal wall.
Though we got these pendants from a local vendor, you can click here to get something similar.

Orbis Wall Lamp
Our requirements were quite the opposite for this room. Here we wanted to keep the focus on the wallpaper panel and our charming window seat with that spectacular view. So our light fitting had to be simple, sober and stylish… an elegant piece that didn’t draw all the attention to itself.
We loved the simple shape and clean finish of the Orbis lamp, and I think they’re playing their part here very well.

Grey Glamour Pendant
This graceful bedroom was all black, white and grey. Obviously, our lamp had to fit in too. Since the bedside tables had such a striking pattern on them, we were looking for austere pendants to balance them out.
The Grey Glamour pendants work well here. Even in their simplicity they are, as their name rightly suggests, glamorous enough to hold their own against those tables.

Firmino Table Lamp
Next, we bring to you the first table lamp from our lighting roundup 2020. This stunning, intricately patterned sideboard needed an even bolder lamp to be able to show up well on it. I most certainly wanted a black lamp for this sideboard, but the gold on it was an added bonus. It so elegantly breaks the monotony of the black and white.
Also notice how the sharp angles of the lamp are in sync with the angles in the inlay pattern along the drawer knobs?

Globo Table Lamp
Another table lamp we’ve used in the same living room is completely different in style from the Firmino above. The Globo is literally half a globe. Its antique brass finish adds another beautiful natural texture to all the others that we have used in this living room. And the soft golden glow it emits does wonders for that corner.

Wooden Pendant Light
With the live edge dining table, leather bench and the tropical forest wallpaper, our dining area was everything earthy and rustic. And we needed pendants to bring out the same vibe.
I think our wooden slatted pendants do that quite well. Don’t you?

LED Spot Light
As you can see from this picture, our window bed in this room is a height above the floor, while the window ceiling is lower than that of the rest of the room. This means, if I stand on the bed and raise my arm, I can touch almost all the way up.
I had initially visualised a pretty chandelier here, to go with the rest of this pretty girl’s room. I soon realised that wouldn’t be practical at all. This is, after all, a child’s room and you can expect kids to jump around on any and all furniture.
We then went in for this set of spot lights instead. It turned out to be an excellent decision, because we focused the light on each end on to the bookshelves on either side. The two central lights can then be turned towards the bed to give ample light to read or play a board game there.

Diamond 37 Pendant
The bohemian look, to me, means a happy mixture of colours, patterns and textures. Since we already had a whole lot pattern and colour in this corner of our boho living room, I thought we’d play with texture when it came to the lamp. That is how we selected a cane pendant to light up this corner.

Callam Pendants
We move over to the dining space of our boho living room, and you can see how the logic we used above works perfectly well here too.

Cocoon Table Lamp
Since we had a pendant lamp on the opposite side, we decided to go with a table lamp in this corner of our boho living room.
On one side we had a brass end table, above which we placed our cane pendant lamp. We continued to play with texture and material on this side too. And so this wooden end table got a beaten brass lamp to adorn it.

Gold Metal Orb
Let’s continue our lighting roundup 2020 with a walk into our teen bedroom. We went with beachy vibes for this one, and decided to go for quiet, subtle fittings in this mostly blue and white room.

Glass Globe
We kept with the subtle look for the pendants above the study table too. The glass shades ensured that we didn’t block the view of the newsprint wallpaper.

Pathson Wall Lamp
This dull, boring guest room was in need of a desperate refresh when we first saw it. Since we couldn’t change any of the furniture we had only furnishings and accessories with which to make an impact.
This stunning, bold lamp without doubt added the required zing to the dressing corner.

Moroccan Pendants
We finally wrap up our lighting roundup 2020 with this dazzling dining space from our haveli style living room. ‘Haveli’ style meant we were looking for accessories that were rich and opulent yet with an old world charm to them.
These Moroccan pendants not only fit the bill, but have played a huge part in adding the vintage glamour to this space.

That brings us to the end of our lighting roundup 2020. I’ve enjoyed this trip down memory lane and looking at our past projects. I hope you’ve enjoyed it too. I also hope you find not only the links useful, but also the little peek into my thought process while picking these pieces insightful.
It’s hard for me to pick a favourite room or space since, in a way, they are all my babies. But I’d love to know what your favourites are. So do write in the comments below.
