Happy to share with you the Lavender Guest Room from our Blue Door Project today. It all started with that beautiful wallpaper you see here which was custom made just for this room. But first things first..
The Plan:
As you can see, this bedroom is smallish in size. The most efficient way to fit in the wardrobes and the bed is by putting them all in one line, with the TV unit on the opposite wall.
This means that the beds have no side tables. But we worked out a simple solution for that problem too.
The Bed Wall
Putting the wardrobes on either side of the bed gave us enough walking space all around the bed. This would not have been possible if the wardrobe went on any other wall in this room. The queen size bed fits snugly into the niche made by the two wardrobes.
Behind the mirror paneled shutters, the wardrobes have hanging space above, and a shelf and a lockable drawer below. There are two additional drawers on the outside. All in all, the wardrobes provide enough storage space for two guests.
But you do need space to keep a few essentials by your bedside when you sleep. And there was no way we could fit side tables in a layout like this. Two little additions to our design took care of this.
First, you can see the sliding trays on either side between the glass shutter above and the drawers below. These can easily be pulled out to make some side table space at night.
Secondly, we built in a little niche into the side of each wardrobe. This makes a perfect spot to keep a few basics that are required on a daily basis. It also has light switches for each guest’s reading light and plug points for charging phones etc.
The mirrors on the shutters give each guest a dressing area, and also help make this small room look larger.
TV Wall
On the opposite side we had a little wall space between the bathroom door and the sliding doors leading into the balcony. We fit in a good sized chest of drawers here. It serves as the TV unit and also gives additional storage space in the room.
Pooja Wall
Since this bedroom is often used by the clients’ parents when they come to visit, they also wanted a little pooja area where they can keep an idol and light a lamp.
We used a small wooden shelf on the wall with this beautiful painting of Lord Ganesha. The parents can use it as a prayer corner whenever they visit. It also makes pretty wall decor no matter who the guest occupying the room.
Lavender Guest Room
The colours for this room came first from this lovely wallpaper which was customised for us. It was originally a blue, but since we were doing a lot of that colour in our Almost Blue Living Room, the client decided to go with lavender.
We loved this pretty shade and started selecting our other furnishings around it.
We chose a darker shade for the headboard, to contrast against the lighter wallpaper and bedcover. The bedcover only has a hint of lavender, while the curtains also have a hint of blue to add a little colour. Did you also notice the lovely purple glass and brass handles on the drawers?
We carried through with brass in the room by using brass knobs on the wardrobes, brass reading lamps, and brass knobs and legs on the chest of drawers below the television.
Yet, since it was all a lot of lavender and brass, we decided to go a little bolder with the rug. The pops of colour help to break the monotony, while the shades of purple make it belong to this room anyway.
Lighting It Up
Finally, we lit it all up beautifully to complete the look. The LED strips highlight the curtains and wallpaper and give a soft, soothing light to the room, while the panel lights in the ceiling brighten up the room to be able to read, write or do any kind of work in it.
Before & After
And I cannot end without these, can I?
The bed wall with those large doors that step into a bright, sunny balcony.
Our wardrobes and bed fit in here side by side, giving us the beautiful bedroom with a view.
The wall opposite the bed with the door right in the middle leading into the bathroom.
We used the little wall space we had to fit in a pretty chest of drawers that serves as a TV unit and also provides additional storage space.
The entrance wall of the bedroom.
A little wooden shelf provides a pooja corner when required and serves as pretty wall decor otherwise.
Get The Look
I’m listing out a few of the products we used in this room to help you achieve this look if you like it.
| – 1 – Velvet Cushion Cover | – 2 – White & Wine Embroidered Cushion Cover | – 3 – Cyprus Forest Wallpaper | – 4 – Brass Spot Light | – 5 – Tyma Bedcover | – 6 – Wooden Jali Shelf | – 7 – Glass Almirah Handles | – 8 – Brass Knobs | – 9 – Sangria Throw | – 10 – Hyrax Rug |
That was all of our lavender guest room for you. Though it is such a pretty colour, lavender can be a little difficult to work with simply because finding products in the right shades can be a task.
I love how this room turned out though. Using a single colour through the space has given it almost a meditative serenity. Yet the prints and patterns have it looking bright and cheerful.
Hope you’ve liked it as much as I do. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
Until next time,
.
