It’s finally done! All the little bits and pieces, the left over panels and shutters, are all in place. We are now ready with our kitchen reveal for Project Comeback!
The Beginning:
As always, let’s start with the plan.
If you remember, we went through loads of alterations to reach this final plan. If you missed that post, you can read about the step-by-step planning of the kitchen here. Once we had frozen this plan, we got the modular kitchen guys in, and worked out the cabinet details with them.
No! We weren’t planning an orange kitchen! But we did want some colour. (In case you missed it, we have the cabinet details here). So when we left off last time, all the detailing was done and the civil work was complete.
Next…:
The major change we made in our plan was the cabinet colour. Once the walls and counters were up we realised that the kitchen’s single large window (behind the hob) provided great natural light to the original kitchen (up to the microwave corner). But the part we had extended, the breakfast counter, ironing and refrigerator… these were not getting enough natural light. To counter this, we decided to go in for white cabinets. White reflects light the best so we thought this would help the kitchen look brighter and lighter.
The counter and tiles were already a light beige, so we decided to go for a beige and white colour scheme.
We had earlier planned to do the breakfast counter in another colour, to contrast the other kitchen counters and go with the cabinets. Instead, we now chose a beautiful creamy Italian marble to match our beige and white scheme.
We also decided to go with a glass door for the kitchen so that we would get some natural light in from it too. But we didn’t want the mess inside to be seen from the outside. The kitchen is usually the messiest when you entertain… and that’s when you least want the mess to show! So we came up with this…
It’s a beautiful, white, sheer, lacy fabric, sandwiched between 2 panels of glass.
It lets the light in but doesn’t let the view out! And the white goes beautifully with the rest of the kitchen too.
The Kitchen Reveal:
So here we have it… our kitchen is ready, and it’s light, bright and very white!
The breakfast counter at the entrance is a small and cozy corner, perfect for 2. We put some walnut cabinets here to add a little colour and warmth.
We have a matching walnut open shelf near the microwave. Again, it’s the only little spot of colour in an otherwise white space.
The refrigerator is in the other arm of the ‘L’. The long counter next to that doubles up as an ironing counter.
The sink is a double bowl, and both the cabinets above it have utensil and plate racks for easy storage after washing.
The building does not have a piped gas connection yet, so we have currently placed a stove in the kitchen. Provisions for the piped gas have been made, and once that comes in and the cylinders are out, we’ll put in a hob in it’s place.
I designed these kitchen printables and got them framed. They are my favourite part of this kitchen. And with this kitchen reveal, this set of 4 kitchen printables is now available to you, FREE, over here!
Do you remember the service window? We fixed the key-holder next to it so that the keys can also be passed too and fro through that window. It is also used for all deliveries and saves a trip around the house to the front door every time the doorbell rings.
The stools fit in neatly under the breakfast counter when not in use.
And the towels and napkins are tucked away behind the counter… out of view from the entrance and breakfast area.
The Finishing Touches:
Mister has a dedicated tea corner for himself which holds his tea-pot, cups and that cute ceramic drawer set for the tea bags.
And Missus gets to keep her kitchen looking happy with flowers…
Fruits…
And her greens!
Before and After:
The kitchen reveal wouldn’t be complete without some good before and after pics… so here they are!
The refrigerator and ironing counter…
The breakfast counter…
And the main kitchen…
As always, I have put together a little video of the kitchen reveal. Watch it… it’s fun!
And before you go, this gorgeous set of 4 kitchen printables is available to you for FREE! Get them right now over here!
Until next time,
I’ve been following you for some time now. I’m in love with your designing styles. They’re simple yet extremely beautiful. That’s a gorgeous kitchen. Especially loved the door styling <3
Thank you so much Geeta! I love that door too!
Very well planned…amazing
Thanks Mamta! We planned, and replanned quite a few times… but I guess it was worth it. 🙂 Have a great day!
Thanks Mamta! 🙂
Warm, stylish and well planned ! Well done Ritika !
Thanks Brindha! Glad you liked it!
Kitchen is looking amazing..the colors, space and everything. But mam, is it ok if we don’t follow the rule of kitchen triangle.
A work triangle works best. But what if you have only a single counter kitchen? So you do have to know the rules.. but also when it’s better to break them!
Fantastic Rittika. I loved the before and after pictures too.Very interesting.Shows your entire journey from this to that.Looking fwd to the next post soon.
Thanks Rashi! More posts coming your way soon… 🙂
A happy kitchen is the soul of a sweet home. God bless!
I so agree… couldn’t have said it better! 🙂
