Tucked on to one side, just off the entrance passage, is the kitchen of Phoenix. It is a compact but deeply intentional space. Designed for function first—but never at the cost of warmth—it holds the daily rituals of cooking, brewing, chopping, and serving with quiet grace. The finishes are practical, the layout efficient, and every element is placed just where it needs to be.

The Layout

The kitchen of Phoenix is compact but thoughtfully planned, measuring 6′-11″ by 9′-11″, with a layout that prioritises efficiency and flow.

On the right as you enter, the layout begins with the hob placed centrally, flanked by prep counters. Just beside it is the appliance unit, and the tall black refrigerator is positioned at the near end. This creates a clean linear work zone where cooking and appliance access are seamlessly integrated.

On the opposite wall, the sink is placed under the window for natural light, with the dishwasher conveniently located right next to it. This keeps cleaning activities clustered in one efficient stretch.

A breakfast counter at the entrance doubles as a space for prep and is a great transition zone between the open kitchen and the living room just around the corner.

Kitchen of Phoenix - Layout plan

This parallel layout ensures that all major kitchen functions—cooking, cleaning, and serving—are within easy reach, while still leaving a comfortable central aisle for movement. The arrangement lends itself well to solo cooking or shared use without crowding the space.

The Kitchen Of Phoenix

The kitchen of Phoenix follows a smart parallel layout that balances functionality with warmth. On one side, the hob and chimney sit comfortably between the tall pantry unit and a large window, giving the cooking zone excellent light and ventilation. This entire wall is lined with deep drawers and base cabinets, finished in warm walnut woodgrain with soft brass handles. These offer ample storage for pots, pans and daily provisions.

Leading to this counter, a tall black refrigerator anchors the space near the entrance. The opposite counter houses the sink and dishwasher. The walls are backed by glossy olive green kitkat tile cladding that adds subtle texture without overwhelming the narrow footprint.

The counter then turns the corner into a breakfast nook. This is visually marked by a strip of patterned tiles that runs down the dusty rose counter. This ledge, with its view into the arched hallway, is a quiet coffee perch, a reading ledge, or an informal workspace.

Together, these elements form a linear working triangle that makes movement between prepping, cooking, and washing seamless. They carve out cozy zones within a tight footprint. The space feels layered but never cluttered—each detail considered to serve both purpose and charm.

Look and Feel

The kitchen’s visual language continues the home’s poetic dialogue of earthy tones and rich materiality. A dusty terracotta counter anchors the space with warmth. The breakfast counter that wears a hand-painted patterned tile, mirror this. It’s a quiet nod to traditional craft in a modern frame. The dusty rose , also seen in the entryway, links the kitchen back to the home’s larger narrative.

The cabinetry introduces another layer with walnut-toned drawers punctuated by sleek brass handles. The base units offer a sense of groundedness. The white overhead shutters lighten the upper half of the galley, helping the compact space feel open and airy. A backsplash of vertical sage-green finger tiles adds subtle texture and rhythm. It pulls in the soft green accents that appear throughout the house.

The floral wallpaper behind the breakfast ledge adds whimsy and softness, echoing botanical themes from other rooms. It creates a moment of charm and pause in a high-functioning space. Together, these elements blend into a palette that is calm yet characterful. They are deeply connected to the soul of the Phoenix home.

In every inch of this kitchen, function meets feeling. It’s a space that doesn’t just serve meals but gathers memories—quiet breakfasts, late-night tea, shared stories across a tiled ledge. Small in scale, generous in spirit, it holds within it the same resilience and warmth that defines Phoenix.

This little kitchen packs in quite a punch and there are so many little details that I love about this space. Which are your favourite? Do let me know in the comments below.
