Your home entrance is the first thing that anyone sees when they come to your place. They ring the door bell and wait outside your door for you to open it. Those couple of minutes it’s just your entrance keeping them company. If they are in a beautiful space, they will automatically feel happy, warm and welcomed.
We often tend to ignore doing up the home entrance because it’s outside our home. We focus more on how we do up our homes inside. But I think it’s the most important area of the home. It sets up the stage for what’s to come, and makes your guests feel welcome at once.
How To Make Your Home Entrance Beautiful
If you are renovating your home entirely, then the sky is the limit to all the options you have with entrance decor ideas. But we aren’t discussing that today. This post is for you if you want simple ways of prettifying your home entrance, not involving a major renovation. So here are 4 simple steps to doing just that.
(1) Spruce Up The Door Itself:
This is the obvious first step. See if you can make the door itself look better. A very easy way to do this is to add simple wooden moulding on a plain door. Here we bought this pretty ready made moulding and placed it in the taped pattern on this plain, laminated door.
After a hand of polish and the addition of a brass handle, the door doesn’t look so plain anymore.
My entrance door was made glam quite easily too. We bought that ready carved panel and screwed it right onto the plain door. Then we added the pretty moulding to go right around it.
Then came the big, brass handle and the door looks so ornate.
The simplest way of all, is to just paint your door a beautiful colour. Whether it’s a sophisticated blue…
A fresh green..
Or a bright pink, adding colour to a door is a great way to dress it up.
Choose any colour that makes you happy, or goes with the rest of your home in general. You can also decide to go for a distressed finish instead of a plain coat of paint.

(2) Decorate With Plants:
Look at the gorgeous blue and green doors you saw above. Now look at these below.
Adding greens around the doors have made these look even more welcoming than the ones above.
I live in an apartment, so I neither have so much space at my entrance, nor any sunlight to be able to place such beautiful plants in front of my door. What I’ve done instead is to place some money plant in a hanging macrame planter. Money plant can manage for a while with no sunlight, so I swap the pot once a week with a pot kept in the balcony and that does the trick.
A smaller plant to just add a touch of green is also good enough.
This small wall planter that doubles up as your name plate / number plate is another great idea.
(3) Use Glam Light Fittings:
Most likely, your home entrance has some light fitting in place. It’s probably small, efficient and does its job of providing you enough light at the entrance. Make it do two jobs instead. Get it to also act as decor. Changing a light fitting is not too difficult, so this is another easy way to beautify your home entrance.
A large, glamourous light fitting can make a great impact.
This entrance has space in the corner, which has been decorated using plants and this beautiful light fitting. If your light point is on the wall, you can similarly use your wall sconce to enhance your entrance decor.
(4) ‘Furnish’ Your Entrance:
We often use door mats in front of our doors. A simple way to make them look ‘designer’ is layer them.
Add a small patterned or textured rug below the door mat and your entryway will look more decorated.
.
So that’s our 4 steps to a beautiful home entrance. Spruce up your door, add a glamourous light fitting, throw in some plants and a layered door mat. Really simple things which will up your home entrance decor in no time. So go ahead and give your home a new look.. right at the entrance itself!
Once your entrance is sorted out, don’t forget your entryway. Whether you enter your home into a large foyer or a small passage, you want your entryway to be warm and welcoming to everyone. Head on to our post on 9 Easy Steps To a Fabulous Entryway to help you do just that.

Hey! Sending loads of good wishes your way, Happy Diwali!
I have always loved reading your posts. Such practical ideas always.
Just a question though, how would you paint a laminated door to make it last, as in what finish and paint brand. Can this be DIY’ed. I have always wanted to transform mine but never sure of how to prime and materials to use.
