Next up, we have the guest room of Vivid. With all the basic furniture requirements fit neatly in, and its gentle colour scheme, it will make a comfortable and welcome home for any guest.
Guest Room of Vivid
This is the ‘extra’ room in the home. Which means that we wanted to squeeze the most out of it, and therefore the most into it.
Its primary function is that of a guest room. So obviously, it has to be comfortable and welcoming to all people who are important to this family. But there isn’t much point if it’s usable only for a few days every once in a while and locked up for most of the year. On a regular basis, it must be useful to the family too.
And so, we’ve not only given it a beautiful form, but also packed it in with a whole lot of function. Let me show you how.
The Plan
The room has a little more length than width. Placing the wardrobes along the side wall would have squeezed the bed closer to the window and given very little walking space around it. Instead we placed them opposite the bed, leaving enough space to walk around the bed comfortably.
Wardrobes, a study table and open shelves make up all the furniture opposite the bed.
The Bed Wall
Placing the bed right in the centre of the room here leaves just about enough space to move comfortably on all three sides of it.
We have a planter on one side of the bed instead of a side table for now. The client was worried that two side tables might be too cramped in this room, so I suggested they start with one and can always order another once they’ve seen how it all fits into the space.
The Storage Wall
The wall in front of the bed is much longer than the wall to the side. So we managed to fit in a whole lot of useful furniture along it’s entire length.
There is only that much wardrobe space that guests need when they come to visit for a few days. Yet, we have two full wardrobes along this wall. One for the guests, and an extra one that the client can use to store linen and other household extras.
They also needed a small study area for the times they work from home. We couldn’t have put the wardrobes in front of the window, so placed the study table in front of it. A good view and plenty of natural light makes for a good space to work from, doesn’t it?
To the left of the table we have open shelves, one of which makes the pooja area in the home.
You must have noticed how we have the line of the study table drawers extending right across the wardrobe, giving us a row of drawers there too. This not only looks great, but also has another advantage. It separates the wardrobe shutters into two parts. The storage cabinets below the drawers from the wardrobe space above. It’s easier this way, to have guests use the wardrobe section for their storage, while the client continues to use the lower part for their own.
The bed, wardrobe and storage space for guests, and for the client, a study area and the mandir… like I said, the guest room of Vivid packs in a punch, making it super useful.
It’s also really pretty… so let’s get to that.
Look and Feel
We wanted to use soft colours and minimal patterns in this room to keep it looking light and easy on the eyes. Blue is apparently the world’s most loved colour. This makes it a safe bet when you’re not sure of someone’s colour preference, and so is great for guest bedrooms.
Our first selection was this pretty curtain fabric. It’s a light pattern in soft blues with a hint of pink.
It’s teamed up with a very light set of sheers which soften the light coming into the room so beautifully.
Next came the lovely headboard. We wanted a simple, upholstered piece and decided to go with these gentle curves to once again, soften the look.
The brass-tacks used on the edge are usually.. brass. Given that our artwork frames and pendants also have a touch of gold to them, that would have been the most obvious choice. But I thought that silver tacks would look so much nicer with the blue on this fabric, and I’m so glad we went with these.
We pulled the pinks off the curtains and threw them on to the bed in the form of these cushion covers.
Finally, the wall art. These are embroidered pieces the client picked up on a vacation many years ago. I didn’t see these till much after all our fabric selections for this room were done. Don’t they look like they have been bought for this very room all those years back.
On the opposite side, the wooden finish of the wardrobe firmly grounds all these light, airy finishes. It completes the room by adding the warmth of a natural finish.
The curtain fabric continues on to the blinds. I also love the quirky chair upholstery. The black print ties in to the black fluted band we’ve used on the drawers running across that side.
Before and Afters
I just have a couple of before and afters from the guest room of Vivid to help give you an idea of the transformation.
Here’s the bed wall…
Transformed simply by keeping a bed and side table in the centre. Colours and patterns have been used only lightly to give the room a soft, gentle vibe.
The wardrobe opposite the bed..
Planned to fit the wardrobe, a study table and open shelves including space for a mandir.
Our aim was to make the guest room of Vivid a space that is equally useful to both, the hosts and the guests.
When we call our loved ones over, we all want them to feel as welcome and comfortable as they would in their own homes. For whatever little time they are with us, we want them to give them the privacy of their own space, and not have them feel like they have intruded into ours and are getting in our way.
But what about all year round, when you don’t have guests? It’s as important that you can use your home as your own too.
That’s what has been kept in mind while designing the guest room of Vivid.
With this, we complete our tour of all the bedrooms of this home. I have just one last space left to share with you.. the kitchen. That’s coming up on the blog next…
Until then,
.

Nice blog post! One Brick At A Time has a great selection of guest room ideas. Liked the idea of using a bold accent wall to create a focal point in the room.
Absolutely amazing as always. Best is the window utilisation and integration with cupboards. The art work look really nice and great job Rittika with so much storage which is looking so lovely too.
