The girls’ room of Vivid is bold, bright, beautiful… and naturally brings a smile to your face.

Girls' Room of Vivid - floral watercolour wallpaper

Girls’ Room of Vivid

The bold floral watercolour mural is most definitely the shop stopper of this room. Everything else was designed and selected to highlight this wallpaper and allow it to shine. Let me show you how.

The Plan

This bedroom is shared by two very little and extremely sweet girls. Though one is yet a toddler, we planned ahead to make sure that this room works well for them for the next decade.

The three large pieces of furniture… the wardrobe, the bed and the study table… are placed along the three walls of the room. The fourth wall is almost entirely taken up by the large window.

Even at this little age, they are already avid readers and love their books, and so we also fit in a small book shelf in the little space near the window.

Instead of a double bed, we used a pull out bed so that they have sufficient space to play in the room all day.

The Bed Wall

I absolutely love this wallpaper we had customised for this room. It’s vibrant and full of colour. The flowers make it girly without being overtly so. The two girls sharing this room are one and six. This wallpaper works wonderfully for both ages, doesn’t it? And since it isn’t childish, it will continue to be something they love as they grow older.

The Study

Opposite the bed, we have the girls’ study table. It’s a single long unit giving both girls plenty of space to work together. The set of drawers in the middle, along with the printer tray is easy for both to share.

Above, they have plenty of storage for all their books, along with a couple of open shelves to keep the entire unit looking light and pretty.

The Wardrobe

Given the age, and the size, of the little girls, the wardrobe has been divided into two parts. The lower portion consists of drawers easily accessible from the outside. This gives the girls easy access to their toys and books. They can reach these on their own to take out and put away their things themselves on a daily basis.

The upper portion is a regular wardrobe. This is useful for mommy to keep things she doesn’t want them pulling out on their own, out of reach.

The Bookshelf

This compact bookshelf makes great use of the strip of wall near the window. We made the unit in line with the curtain pelmet. The curtains end just alongside the bookshelf and it all fits neatly into each other.

The books are easily accessible from the bed for a night time read. We didn’t add bedside tables here to avoid too much furniture in the little girls’ room. So these shelves double up well as a night stand too.

Look and Feel

This wallpaper was the starting point of our design for the girls’ room of Vivid. The white base with the bright pop of colours is stunning, and we decided to stick to that theme for the full room. We kept the base light to allow us free use of colours across.

The wardrobes are entirely white, to make sure you don’t take your eyes off the wallpaper.

We added wood tones to the top and sides of the white study table. I always feel that any room entirely without an element of wood lacks warmth, and so I like adding a dash of wood to all spaces to make them feel cozier.

The rug is a soft grey, once again a gentle neutral, brought alive by motifs in bright colours.

We stuck with the same concept in all the furnishings we’ve used. We have a pale pink applique bedcover on which we’ve thrown some bright cushions. The bookshelves themselves are white, blending in with the walls around so that the focus can remain on the wallpaper.

The curtains too have white bases on which the sheer has small multicolour raindrops while the heavy drapes have a bolder pattern of pennants.

We’ve used white, or light neutrals as the base colour right across the room, to allow the bold pattern and colours, especially the wallpaper, to be the hero.

Before and Afters

Here are a few before and afters from the girls’ room of Vivid, to show you how we took a blank slate and created this little girls’ wonderland.

The bed wall…

The wardrobe on one side, the bookshelf on the other and the bed in the centre of them both. All done in white so that the spectacular wallpaper takes centre stage.

To the right of the bed…

.. the wardrobes are in all white so as to not take attention away from the wallpaper.

The window wall..

We used the narrow strip of wall to the right of the window to fit in a compact bookshelf. The study table is on the opposite side.

The study wall…

With a study table large enough for two girls to comfortably work and store all their school paraphernalia.

I am looking for something similar but my room size is smaller than mentioned above. This design is actually perfect for 2 girls for more than a decade to bond, study and spend their childhood memories together.
I am looking for something similar for 8*8 room

    Hello Ma’am,
The room has come out very nice…
I would like to know about ceiling..have you done a false ceiling here or the lights point were already given?? Many times client doesn’t agree for false ceiling also it reduces the height of space which is already small, what’s your suggestion for this..
Also can you please share about laminate? Which brand and code?

    Thanks
    Priya

Hi Priya. Our false ceiling is only about 4 inches high.. it doesn’t take away much of the height but is essential to hiding all the wires that criss cross above it. Clients understand this when explained.
