The girl’s room of ‘Shway’ has all the gentle elegance of this home. In addition to the white and gold, we have generous doses of pink sprinkled all over to give it a younger and brighter vibe – just right for a teen girl.
Girl’s Room of Shway
Pink, white and gold with intricate motifs, boho prints, tassled cushions and floating butterflies, this pretty bedroom is a girl’s dream come true.
We’ve fit in a ton of storage, with large wardrobes, bookshelves, a study and a dresser and drawers below the window seat. Yet, with it’s simple lines and light colours the room looks anything but heavy.
In terms of functionality, we’ve balanced the storage with the open space. And the cute and the elegant are well balanced in terms of vibe. Here’s how we did it.
The Plan
The room has one, long, continuous wall, along which we have fit most of the furniture. The study table bed and dressing are all in one line along this wall. The study table doubles as a bedside table on one side of the bed, while the dresser does so on the other side.
We placed the wardrobe along the entrance wall of the room, ending in bookshelves along the study table.
On the opposite wall, we have a window seat along the entire length of the window.
The Wardrobes
We placed the wardrobe along the entrance wall of the room. Since we had a study table right near the wardrobe, we added some bookshelves to the end of the wardrobe, in line with the study table.
This helps increase the length of the study table, and gives additional storage around it. For instance, can you see the printer on the lowermost shelf? The shelf slides out to use the printer easily when required, and slides back in to stow it away when not in use.
The Bed Wall
The study table extends from these bookshelves on to the study wall. It is placed to the left of the bed and also works as a bedside table on this side.
The bed is placed in the centre of the room along the longest wall. A gently curved headboard in a soft rose fabric sets the tone for the tender vibe of the room.
On the other side of the bed, we have the dressing table. This doubles as the bedside table on the right side. We picked an arched mirror as an extension of the curves of the headboard. The soft curves quite literally soften the aura of the space.
The Window Seat
The dresser then turns the corner and continues as a seating ledge running along the length of the entire window wall.
This gives us a seat with a view in this room and also a whole lot of storage in the drawers below the ledge.
Look and Feel
Our client picked pink as the highlight for her room and we were more than happy to oblige. The blush hues fit in beautifully with the white and gold of the home so we could continue the same in her room too. We picked plain pinks for the headboard, window seat and study chair – all the large pieces in the room.
Then we went for patterns and motifs on the cushions and quilt.
The gentle curves and soft, light fabrics help build on the mellow ambience of this room.
Finally, we added the pretty lights. From the beautiful backlit shelves to the pretty butterflies.. they all bring a magical quality to the girl’s room of Shway.
Before and Afters
Talking about magic, befores-and-afters is how I like to show off the magic we make!
The bed wall…
The bed right at the centre with the study table on one side and the dressing on the other make up most of this room.
The wardrobe and study corner…
The wardrobe ends in open shelves which work well with the study table to make more space and storage.
The window wall…
A long window ledge ends at the dressing table. This makes seating space for friends when they are over and additional storage space below the ledge.
Pretty pinks, pretty lights, pretty fabrics, pretty prints… pretty functional and pretty cute… the girl’s room of Shway is pretty perfect, don’t you think?
I had great fun putting together all the charming elements of room and hope you’ve had fun looking at it. Let me know your favourites of this room in your comments below.
Until next time,
