Didn’t you love Girl’s Room 1 of Taru which I shared last week? Well, guess what? We have one more pretty floral room in this home which I am super excited to share with you today. Let me show you Girl’s Room 2 of Taru.
Girl’s Room 2 of Taru
So the thing is, we have two little girls in this home. Both small, both sweet, and both have the same favourite colour – lavender. The basic requirements for both the girls are the same – a bed and side tables, a study table, place for clothes, books and toys. So everything had to be pretty much the same… and yet it had to be different.
And so here we have Girl’s Room 2 of Taru today – as lavender, pink and pretty as the other one, yet with its own happy vibe.
The Plan
A double bed with side tables are placed in the centre of the room with a study table on the opposite side. In girl’s room 1 we had a swing near the window. Our little girl here was undecided about what kind of seating she wanted near her window, so we left the area empty for now. She can add a chaise, a large lounge chair, an easy chair with a footstool… or her own swing, whenever she makes up her mind.
Both the girls love reading, so we added bookshelves along one wall to make a library for them.
The biggest difference between the two girl’s rooms is the size of the walk-in-closet. Girl’s Room 2 has a large walk-in space which takes care of almost all her storage requirements. We put a full sized wardrobe on one end with storage on the adjacent wall and panelled the third wall with a full sized mirror.
The Bed Wall
The bed is placed exactly in the centre of the room. Unlike girl’s room 1, the furniture placement here is not symmetrical because of three reasons.
First, there is a small offset in the wall to the right side of the bed. Second, we have a small window in this offset. And third, because the bookshelves give us less space on the right side of the bed.
So, to the left, we have a larger bedside table with a pair of drawers. A pretty pink pendant lamp hangs above the bedside table.
We couldn’t use a large bedside table on the right side. The drawers and shutters of the book storage would hit the side table every time you tried to open them. Also, the offset would leave an odd gap between the wall and the larger table. Instead, we used this small, cute, round table on this side.
We also avoided the pendant light here, since it would hang right next to that offset. Mom too was worried about it swaying in the breeze and breaking when the small window is open. Instead we used a small reading light near the bedside table here.
The Bookshelves
The wall to the right of the bed is interspersed with two doors. The rightmost is the door to the bedroom, while the one in the middle leads to the walk-in closet. We panelled all of the wall with bookshelves for the girls’ library.
Our little girl also plays the piano, so we made space for the piano in the larger section of the bookshelf. Though it looks like a regular shelf, the piano is placed on a tray which slides out. She can pull out the tray and sit on a chair in front of it to play it right here, and then push it back in when she’s done.
In the evenings, the shelves light up beautifully to make some magic of their own.
The Study Area
Exactly opposite the bed, we have a compact study table. Since she has a wall full of storage space and library close by, we didn’t add any additional storage around the study table.
I love that the artwork we’ve used above this table has been painted by the little girl herself.
The Walk-In-Wardrobe
We have the full depth wardrobes on the right as you enter this space. On the left we have cabinets, storage shelves and a few open shelves to keep things handy.
The opens shelves and drawers also serve as a dressing area since they are right next to the full length mirror. You can also see the switch board placed inside the open shelves to easily connect the hair dryer and such.
Look & Feel
This pretty wallpaper takes centre stage in this room. Just like in girl’s room 1, this one too is pink and lavender, with flowers and birds. We made a very conscious effort to make sure that the two wallpapers look as different as possible from each other, even though the theme and colours are exactly the same.
The wicker headboard is one of my favourite features of this room. I love how it adds to the natural vibe we’ve seen running across the home, and goes especially well with the flora and fauna of the wallpaper of this bedroom.
The bedding here was especially difficult to put together. Trust me, lavender is not an easy colour to mix and match simply because there just aren’t that many options available in lavender. You want to put together a set in blue, you’ll have a few hundred options from which to pick and choose. With lavender, it’s just a handful.
But it did come together rather nicely, didn’t it? The beautiful, deep toned veneer we’ve used across the home is just perfect in this room too, helping us ground all the pinks and purples with its earthiness.
We kept the curtains light so as not to clash with the bold wallpaper. The sheer curtains have tiny pink-purple flowers embroidered on them. We have zigzag lines forming stripes in similar colour tones on the heavy drapes.
The lovely lavender continues into this little girls walk-in closet too. Since the space is small we didn’t want to inundate it with colour so we did a half-and-half. The lower portion is done in lavender while the upper portion is white. The light wooden shelves bring an earthy vibe to this space too, and the golden handles help glamourise it.
Don’t miss the light fluting on this laminate. I love how it adds not just colour, but also texture to the space.
Before and Afters
Now for some before and afters of this pretty room.
The bed wall…
The bed takes centre stage placed against the backdrop of that delightful wallpaper.
The wall opposite the bed..
We placed the study table directly opposite the bed. Since we have a lot of bookshelves and storage space adjacent to this wall, we didn’t add on more storage around the study.
The wall to the right of the bed…
Is lined with bookshelves and additional storage space for school bags, stationery etc.
A view of the relatively large walk-in area…
Which looks even larger now because of the mirror paneled wall.

So now you’ve seen both the girls’ bedrooms of Taru. We had the same brief for both the rooms, not just in terms of requirements, but also in choice of colours and theme. I think we did a great job of keeping both the rooms looking different in spite of all the same-ness. But then, I’m biased.
So tell me what you think. Do you agree or not?
