I’m thrilled to be sharing our boho living room reveal with you here today! It’s been a long time since I introduced the ‘We Want It Brighter‘ makeover to you, so let me remind you what this was about.

This was a home, done up not too long ago. Though everything was in place, it was all grey and lacked any kind of life and soul in it. If you head over to the intro post here, you’ll understand what I’m saying when you see all the ‘before’ pics. So the clients had only one requirement… to make it brighter.

So here I am with our boho living room reveal, to show you that’s exactly what we did!

Let's Go Boho Living Room Reveal

The Plan:

Let me quickly show you the plan first, so that you can visualise the space.

As you enter the home, you step into the living room. Since they did not want a television here, we could give them a cozy circle of seating all around.

As you look right straight ahead from the entrance door, you see the dining space. Since this isn’t too wide, we put in a built in bench on 2 sides to help us move the dining table into the corner.

Lets Go Boho Living Room

For more details of the plan, you can click here to go to the post where we introduce this room. Let me get to showing you around this boho living room.

Boho Living Room Reveal:

Do you remember the inspiration image that the client had liked for this living room? It was a bright space with a showstopper brick wall. (That too is in the intro post if you’d like to see it!)

We didn’t do a red brick wall because this room is kind of small with less natural light and that would have looked too heavy.

Our inspiration pic also had a whole lot of pink with little hints of blue. We did manage to go pink and blue in this living room, starting out with this beautiful rug.

Let's Go Boho Living Room Reveal

We went with the bold design and the pretty pink and blue to ‘brighten it up’ like we were asked to do.. and we definitely brightened up this room!

So let me take you around the various parts of this living room and you’ll see how the pink in this rug, along with the hints of blue, ties everything together.

The Dining Area:

Since this is the first thing you see when you are standing at the entrance door, I think it’s a good place to start our room tour.

We didn’t have enough width in this dining room to be able to put chairs on both sides of the table because you need more space for movement with chairs. So we decided to go for a bench against the wall. That way we can do away with the space we need behind the chairs to move them back and forth.

Since this corner is without a window and any natural light, we decided to go all white here to brighten it up. Then to balance all that white, we used a whole lot of bright colours in our upholstery to make this corner vibrant and happy.

There was an oddly placed window there, leading into the duct. We closed it with shutters and finished it to match the wall. Though you can still see where it is, it isn’t an eyesore and it doesn’t spoil the balance of the wall behind the dining table.

Let's Go Boho Living Room Reveal

We thought a lot about that wallpaper. As I wrote to earlier, a red brick would have been too much, so we thought we might do a white brick wall instead.

But the client had recently seen too many brick walls and decided to try something new instead. I’m always one for new things vs the tried and tested, and so we chose this beautiful wallpaper to go here. It’s all white with a beautiful, intricate pattern in almost no colour at all and adds just the right amount of interest without making the space dark and heavy.

The Living Area:

And here we have it, the living area of this beautiful room. We have seating along all four sides. But, being a small space, we made sure the it doesn’t look too heavy because of it. So we’ve balanced a sofa on one side with a chaise on the opposite. The window seat occupies the third wall. We have an elegant accent chair and a poof on the entrance side to keep it light and allow entry into the living area.

We’ve mixed up our accessories to go with the bohemian feel. So a wooden centre table pairs up with a glass and metal side table which has a cane pendant hanging on top.

We’ve mixed up our patterns. We have a solid colour for the window seat, a self print for the chaise and a bold paisley on that charming chair.

We’ve balanced all of these bold colours and patterns on the opposite side. So our sofa has a white fabric with a self pattern and tones down the entire space.

And our wall decor is an eclectic mix too. Hand painted art above the sofa with ceramic plates above the chaise. We chose some colourful art prints to go above the dining table, along with that beautiful jharokha which adds some blue to that corner.

The Pretend Foyer:

Which leaves us with this mirror. The client already owned this magnificent piece, though it was placed horizontally above the sofa ‘before’. (Scroll down to see). I think that did no justice to this mirror at all. Just by turning it around and placing it above this gorgeous sideboard, we’ve given it new life.

We’ve also given this home a little make-believe foyer area. Though this living room doesn’t have a separate foyer or entrance passage, you do need something at the entrance to maybe place your keys and take a last look at your self before you leave the home. This sideboard just ahead of the entrance door serves the purpose and also makes our entrance wall look wonderful.

Before & Afters:

Sharing a few before and afters from our boho living room reveal so you can tell me whether you like the difference we made.

The view of the home as seen from the entrance.

Before

We opened up the space by removing the large sofa that blocked the passage. The window above the dining table was covered with shutters to give a seamless look to the wall. Lots of whites with accents in pretty colours did the rest of the trick.

    Hi,
My layout of the house is quite similar, but I am having difficulty in arranging the furniture. As my focal area is television, which is right opposite to window sitting area and the sofa is placed on the left hand side of big wall, so for watching television, we always need to turn our head to right side to watch the television. Is there any solution to it.

Thanks so much Priyanka! Both are custom made. We selected the fabric at a furnishing store and had the blinds tailored. We had the rug custom made by Weavers Hut
