Just off the dining area, we have the boy’s room of Phoenix. It strikes a seamless balance between style and substance. There’s a deliberate calmness in the palette—earthy, muted, masculine—but the room still feels youthful and lived-in.

The Plan

The layout of the boy’s room of Phoenix balances simplicity and efficiency within a modest 9’2″ x 11’10” footprint. As you enter, the full-height wardrobe stretches across the left wall, offering generous storage without encroaching on floor space.

The bed sits comfortably along one wall, oriented toward the room’s large window, allowing natural light to flood in during the day. A well-planned study and TV corner is cleverly placed opposite the bed.

Each element serves a distinct function, yet flows seamlessly within the compact footprint.

The Boy’s Room of Phoenix

This bedroom is snug but carefully choreographed to offer both comfort and utility. As you enter, the wardrobe stretches across the entrance wall, with its seamless wooden facade anchoring the space. The bed sits to the right, perpendicular to the wardrobe. It is framed by a white brick-finish wall that lends subtle texture and depth.

To the left, natural light streams in through the full-length window, illuminating the long study desk placed below. The study table merges fluidly into this wall, forming a clean and continuous working zone. Built-in drawers and overhead storage in contrasting wood and off-white laminate maximise function without overwhelming the room.

We have planned space and electrical points for a television above the study table drawers. This can easily be installed later on if required.

Materiality and Mood

We embraced a pared-back material palette to reflect a young adult’s evolving taste – grounded, confident, and quietly expressive.

A warm wood grain runs seamlessly across the wardrobe, bed frame, and study desk, tying together the functional zones with understated elegance. The wardrobe panels introduce a subtle textural rhythm with fluted detailing at hand level, adding depth without visual clutter. We left the wall behind the bed raw yet refined in a matte white brick—a tactile contrast that offsets the polish of the wood.

Tones and Touches

Charcoal bedding and grey accent pillows balance the natural warmth of the teak tones. The fabric selection leans towards earthy and tactile. Think woven stripes, tassels, and a quiet mix of textures that age well and invite touch.

We layered in graphic pops of colour through framed retro band posters – a nod to the boy’s love for music that adds both identity and vibrancy. Dark wood knobs, monochrome ceramics, and the side table’s sculptural base subtly nod to a modern-industrial aesthetic, while staying cohesive with the rest of the home’s palette.

This room holds its own within the home—calm, grounded, and distinctly personal. Every material choice and spatial decision was guided by the idea of longevity and belonging, creating a space that feels current today and will still resonate years down the line. It’s a space that feels confident and quiet, much like its inhabitant.
