They say a phoenix must burn to emerge, and this home is the truest embodiment of that mythic rise. This project was named by the client. Before I start sharing the living and dining of Phoenix with you, let me first share the story behind the name.

Phoenix – A New Beginning
When tragedy struck and the original house was lost to a devastating fire, what followed was not just reconstruction—it was reinvention.
From the ashes, we imagined not just a home, but a sanctuary reborn. Every corner of Phoenix has been thoughtfully crafted from scratch, rooted in resilience and inspired by renewal. It carries the weight of memory but lifts it with light, softness, and a gentle strength that speaks to starting over—with intention, with warmth, and with beauty.
This is Phoenix. A name, a journey, and now, a home.
Entrance of Phoenix
Every home tells a story, but at Phoenix, the story begins the moment you step through the door. The entrance passage—warm, earthy, and softly aglow—sets the tone for what lies within: a space that is rooted in resilience and revived with love.
Though compact at just 4’2″ x 2’11”, the foyer at Phoenix makes a quiet first impression. The curved main door swings open into this slender niche, which we’ve optimised with a slim shoe unit and mirror—doubling visual space while offering a practical drop zone.
From here, you step into a 9’8″ long passage that gently unfolds toward the living area. The passage’s generous 5-foot width allowed us to layer in soft lighting, arched accents, and just enough breathing space for each detail to shine.
An Arched Welcome to New Beginnings
We designed the main door to be solid and striking, carved in a rich walnut wood finish with a rhythmic diamond motif that catches the light through tiny brass inserts. The brass handle is simple but sculptural, offering a tactile invitation inward. The door sits framed in a graceful arch, echoing the curves and softness that continue throughout the house.

As you step into the passage, the terracotta-toned walls wrap you in warmth. There’s something instantly grounding about this colour—like the first flush of dawn after a long night. To balance the intimacy of the narrow space, we added a tall, arched mirror with a brushed brass edge that reflects both light and form. The mirror opens up the passage visually, while a wooden shoe unit below grounds it with practical storage and a moment of greenery.

Above, a mix of globe and cane pendant lights hang delicately, casting a soft golden glow that dances off the curved edges of the walls. It’s subtle, moody, and magical. This layered lighting gives the space a quiet drama that feels both ceremonial and deeply personal—just right for a home that’s all about second chances.

Viewed from the living room, the passage looks like a warm embrace. Framed again by an arch, it draws the eye gently inward. A traditional brass lamp and a handwoven bench complete the scene—one anchoring the space in heritage, the other adding texture and soul.

Living and Dining of Phoenix
The living and dining of Phoenix are laid out in an ‘L’.
As you step in through the passage, the living room opens up to your right. A 3-seater sofa runs along the inner wall, flanked by matching side tables. Two lightweight chairs face the sofa, creating a cozy seating cluster around a central coffee table. The TV unit is placed on the opposite wall, forming a clean, functional viewing axis. Floor-length curtains frame the sliding glass doors leading out to the balcony, adding height and softness to the space.
To the left of the passage is the dining nook—shaped by the gentle curve of the outer wall. A round dining table sits snugly in the rounded corner, paired with a built-in bench along two sides and light wooden chairs around it. A storage sideboard runs parallel to the passage, offering concealed storage and surface space for display. On the far end, another tall sideboard visually balances the space and hides away everyday dining essentials.

The Living Room of Phoenix
This living room is the calm after the storm.
After everything the family had been through, this space needed to offer more than comfort—it had to feel grounded, soulful and whole. So we layered it gently, like you would a healing embrace.
We started with a clean, calm canvas of ivory walls and a generous arched opening that connects it to the blush-toned entrance. Through this arch, the living room unfolds—modest in size but richly textured. The palette is earthy and intentional: deep charcoals, soft greens, warm woods and hints of rust. It’s a palette that feels lived in, not curated.

The charcoal grey sofa anchors the room with quiet confidence. It’s fluted and tactile, upholstered in a fabric that holds its structure while staying cozy. Patterned cushions in rust and ivory bring in softness and subtle contrast. Across from it, two wooden chairs upholstered in woven and block-printed fabrics nod to Indian crafts, without being overtly traditional.
The coffee table is actually a hand-carved wooden trunk—functional, full of character, and the kind of piece that tells stories over time.

To the side, a sleek walnut-finished console sits below the TV. It’s intentionally simple, allowing the accessories atop it—a ceramic planter, a few books—to speak softly.

And the gallery wall? It’s a collection of small round canvases—each one an abstracted landscape. Trees in bloom, mountain mists, golden skies. Together they form a visual meditation on nature and rebirth, echoing the larger story of Phoenix itself.

The Dining Area of Phoenix
Tucked into a gentle curve of the home, just beyond the living area, is the dining nook at Phoenix. It is one of those spaces that quietly becomes the heart of a house.
We chose a round dining table to suit the flow of the curved wall and to foster easy conversation. There’s something beautifully democratic about a round table—no heads, no hierarchy, just togetherness. The banquette seating hugs the wall and is upholstered in a floral tapestry print, grounding the space in warmth and adding a subtle old-world charm.

The chairs are lightweight but sturdy, with seats upholstered in a block print that echoes the earthiness of the palette.
Opposite the banquette, a sideboard extends into tall cabinetry, giving us generous hidden storage—a must in an Indian home. Look closer and you’ll notice the same diamond motif from the main door reappearing here, tying the story of Phoenix together through repetition and craft.

Above, a vintage-inspired chandelier adds just the right amount of nostalgia. Its timeworn finish, crystal drops, and soft glow contrast gently with the otherwise modern layout. And yet—it doesn’t feel out of place. If anything, it feels exactly right. Like something that was always meant to be here.

We kept the wall art simple—framed pressed art, quiet and textural. And for a final touch, indoor plants tucked into ceramic and terracotta planters bring in life and freshness, softening the wood-heavy elements and letting the room breathe.

This dining area may be compact, but it holds big energy. It’s where meals are shared, plans are made, and every now and then, quiet moments are savoured alone with a cup of chai and a book.
The Balcony of Phoenix
Not every home gets a balcony that feels like a retreat. But at Phoenix, we wanted this small urban perch to do just that—to become a soft landing, a morning ritual, a breath of quiet between days.
The red exposed brick wall instantly sets the tone: warm, earthy, and just a little rustic. We used uplights to graze the surface at night, highlighting its texture and depth. It creates a beautiful contrast against the clear glass railing, which keeps the view—and the natural light—uninterrupted.

The floor is simple grey, but we added a hand-laid tile border in terracotta, ivory and black to define the space. It’s a quiet nod to old courtyard floors—a design detail that brings memory and charm to a high-rise setting.

For furniture, we kept it honest and airy: two rattan armchairs with curved arms and striped cushions, and a woven tray-style coffee table. The materials are soft, natural and tactile—just the way this space feels. The arrangement is light enough to let the balcony breathe, but cozy enough to invite you to linger with a book and a warm cup.

Potted flowering vines and broad-leafed greens flank the corners, softening the edges and adding a sense of enclosure. A cane pendant swings gently in the breeze—both poetic than practical, but that’s exactly the kind of detail this space deserves.

This balcony isn’t an add-on. It’s an experience. A small but soulful corner where time slows down, the wind speaks softly, and you’re reminded that restoration happens in stillness too.
Tones and Textures: The Soul of The Living and Dining of Phoenix
At first glance, the living and dining spaces at Phoenix feel serene. But stay a moment longer and the details begin to unfold—layered, tactile, and deeply intentional.
The color palette leans into earthy elegance. Greys form the base—from the matte floor tiles to the fluted charcoal sofa—offering a calm and grounded backdrop. Warmth enters through rust, sage, and deep wood tones, creating a lived-in richness without feeling heavy. The green rug underfoot carries delicate worn motifs, a whisper of the old-world amidst the modern.

The sofa upholstery is ribbed and structured. Cushions in cotton and block prints introduce both pattern and comfort. A hand-carved wooden trunk-turned-coffee table anchors the room—its grain and history instantly catching the eye.
Above, the gallery wall of round landscape artworks is a poetic element. It sits confidently above the fluted sofa, bringing narrative and movement to the otherwise minimal walls.

The dining nook plays with material contrast. A solid wood round table with a bold tapered base is softened by a printed tapestry-upholstered bench—a moment of romantic nostalgia nestled into the curve of the wall. The chairs, with their wicker backs and muted red block print fabric, strike a perfect balance between vintage and contemporary.
Suspended above it all is a distressed chandelier, echoing the past with its patina.

Natural materials are a common thread across all spaces—rattan, carved wood, soft textiles, woven baskets.

Indoor plants add bursts of green and curve, softening corners and reinforcing the connection to life and renewal.

Every corner of Phoenix carries the quiet strength of a home that chose to begin again. Through material, memory, and meaning, we’ve stitched together spaces that feel rooted and alive—designed not just to look beautiful, but to hold life gently.
