‘Kai’ means the sea. And like the ocean, this home unfolds with gentle waves of blue, soft neutrals, and reflections that carry light and calm throughout its rooms. I’m really excited about walking you through our latest project, beginning at the entrance and foyer of Kai.

The Entrance and Foyer of Kai – A Calm Beginning

This home belongs to a sweet family of three, and all three of them happen to love the colour blue. So we decided to go with the vibe of the ocean to make a serene home for them.

We began this project wanting to echo that tranquil, expansive feel right from the threshold—and so the story of Kai begins at the door.

This striking blue entrance door sets the tone for what lies within. Crafted with a bold geometric cutwork detail and brushed gold handle, it is both a statement and a symbol—a wave of blue and gold that instantly brings to mind serene waters kissed by sunlight.

But what makes this door even more special is what lies behind it…

The Plan

Originally, this apartment opened straight into the living room—a blank corner with no pause, no welcome, and certainly no sense of arrival.

We reimagined that emptiness as opportunity. Carving out a foyer from this vacant square, we defined the space with a beautifully detailed wooden partition that holds mirrors within its arched geometry. The design is bold yet breathable, separating the entry from the living room while letting light and glimpses pass freely through.

A Foyer Born from a Corner

The partition forms a backdrop to a simple, dark wood console that sits front and center. Though the design of the partitions on both the sides is the same, can you make out that the facing partition also houses a cabinet amongst the mirrors?

The mirrored shutters on the lower cabinet reflect the light streaming in, visually expanding the space while offering a discreet shoe storage. It is elegant and functional—a theme that runs through the entire home.

Reflections and Rhythm

Mirrors play a starring role in this tiny foyer. They bounce light across the space, lending it a sense of width and openness far beyond its actual size.

On one side, a soft navy upholstered bench with delicate brass legs creates the perfect spot to sit and slip off your shoes. Opposite it, a potted plant on the console adds a touch of organic life, its greenery dancing in the reflections around.

Above, a gold chandelier with frosted cylindrical lights radiates out like rays of sun through sea spray. Just another subtle nod to the home’s name and theme.

A Quiet Buffer

From the living room, the foyer becomes a visual buffer—anchoring the end of the space with its dark wood grid and shimmering reflections. It gently marks the transition from the bustle of the world outside to the calmness of Kai within.

Before and After: From Generic to Gorgeous

When we first walked into this apartment, there was no blue door. No sense of welcome. Just a flush, pale laminate door in a beige corridor..

Now, with the custom door in deep sea blue, the entrance tells a very different story.

Inside, the space felt empty, with no transition zone or rhythm to lead you in, with a direct line of sight into the living area.

Now, the arched wood-and-mirror screen, gives a sense of privacy that is still warm and inviting.

It’s still the same square footage—but it feels entirely different. More generous. More intentional. More Kai.

This foyer is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to show you the rest of this ocean-hued home. Let me know in the comments if you’re loving the blue as much as I am.  Here is the link to sign up so you can always stay updated with our latest designs and projects. Because next week, we head into the heart of Kai.

Until then,
