A couple of weeks back I posted some ribbon bunting we had made for Doll’s Room. At that time I promised you I’ll be back with her room reveal soon. So here it is! Doll’s is a jungle theme kids room.

Here’s the original post where we had made the plan for Doll’s room. I think this is the only room in the whole house where the plan has remained unchanged from beginning to the end!

Once the plan was final, we started working on the finishes. I had to keep in mind a few important things while designing Doll’s room. Most importantly, that she loves animals and hates ‘girly-girl’! She was very clear that she did not want a pink room. (It’s amazing how sometimes, 10 year old kids are so sure of what they want!)

Now, jungle theme rooms can end up being quite childish (picture palm tree murals with monkeys hanging by their tails) or very rough-and-tough and masculine (picture the log hut look with lots of rough, dark wood all around). I wanted neither. Doll is 10 and already out of cartoon characters. She wouldn’t want animal sketches on her walls. She is also going to be a teenager soon enough. That is the age some girls become more interested in clothes and make up and all things feminine… and some do not!

So I set out to design a jungle theme kids room which would work great even when Doll grew out of being a kid. And a room that’s not girly-girl one bit… but can be soft and feminine if that’s what Doll wants as she grows up. Here’s the final result.

The main highlight of this room is the zebra striped wallpaper covering the entire bed wall. That gorgeous lion head is actually a bag I saw hanging at a store. I immediately picked it up as a wall-hanging for Doll’s room.

I originally showed you this gorgeous headboard on the back of a garden bench when I went furniture shopping in Delhi. It was customised perfectly for us by Mody Woody interiors at MG Road. They made this day bed for us using a similar piece of wood for the headboard.

We added a panel of jungle green wallpaper by the side, along the entrance door. This gives us some colour in the room and brightens it up as greens always do!

And finally the dark walnut door adds the ‘woody’ feel to complete our jungle theme kids room.

We added an LED strip behind the jungle green panel. This reflects beautifully on the zebra striped wallpaper and gives the most perfect ‘soft’ light as the sun sets in our jungle!

The Plan:
