The work has been progressing slowly and surely, and it’s time for another Project Comeback update. The ‘functional’ furniture is done and ready. Now we’re working on the aesthetics of the home. This is the fun part where we put in the decorative panels, the recessed lights, the carvings and the mouldings. So let me show you where we’re at.
Living & Dining Room:
This is the plan of the living and dining areas.
Remember how we were going to put rafters on the ugly beam above the dining table? The wooden rafters are finally up. Each wooden beam has a groove on top through which runs an electrical wire. Later we will hang a sprinkling of little lights from the wooden rafters all over the dining table.
Earlier, Sport’s bedroom door opened into the living room. We gave Sport some privacy by opening his bedroom door into the passage. Instead of blocking the opening with a brick wall, we decided to use the space well. On the living room side, we have the bar unit on this wall. The wine cooler fits neatly into that slim unit, because half of it goes through that opening into Sport’s Room.
Sport’s Room:
On the other side, this door opening makes a book shelf in Sport’s Room.
The shutter on the right is sealed from this side. The wine cooler will fit into the smaller shutter on the right, which is sealed from this side. The bigger shutter on the left opens from Sport’s room and gives him storage space. We’ll line the niche above with glass book shelves.
Sport’s study and wardrobes are also ready.
His study table is to the right, and shutter number 3 leads to the bathroom.
Doll’s Room:
Doll’s wardrobes and unit are also ready.
You can see a few dark areas of exposed ply. These have not been laminated because they will be covered afterwards in wallpaper. Doll loves animals, so we had earlier chosen a snakeskin wallpaper along with a light floral for her room. We were really excited about those but we have selected new wallpapers for a few reasons:
(1) A friend suggested that the qualities attributed to a snake are not usually positive. Most other animals are associated with positive qualities, so why not choose another animal skin to give the room a more positive vibe?
(2) We loved the Zebra stripe. It is brighter and livelier and also lets us choose pretty much any colour we like to go with it.
(3) We LOVE the green palm wallpaper. It gives a more authentic ‘jungle’ feel, which is what Doll really wanted. And as we all now know, Pantone Colour of the Year 2017 is Greenery, so we’re really excited about including it in our scheme of things!
Master Bedroom:
The walk in wardrobe is ready.
The black leather finish laminate goes beautifully with the wood grain and gives a very rich finish. We’ve consciously decided to use laminate all over the house instead of veneer, because of Snoopy. Whenever she’s excited and lays a paw anywhere, she tends to scratch all polished surfaces. The laminate will protect all furniture from ‘Snoopy-fization’! We have white laminate inside for a bright and neat finish.
We’ve started dressing up the wall behind the bed in the master bedroom.
You’ll have to watch this space to see what’s coming here!
Home Office:
The office too, is all set.
That’s the office table with slots for the keyboard and the printer.
Just a bit of moulding remaining on the edges, and fixing the glass in the shutters.
So we’re at the beginning of the end now… and waiting eagerly to get there! I’ll be back with another Project Comeback Update soon.
Until then,
This is the beginning of the countdown. Best of luck!
