We’re back with the latest update on Krishna’s Home… a moody teen bedroom makeover for her son. Do you remember the gorgeous Greige Kitchen we did for her with the grey stripes on the breakfast counter? This was followed by her stunning Garden Vintage Bedroom with the sensational bougainvillea wallpaper. They are both one of a kind spaces and I really hope you didn’t miss them. Moody Teen Bedroom Makeover:
When you are living in the home and getting it renovated, it isn’t possible to do it all at once. They decided to take a decorating break for a while and are now back to redo V’s room.
V has been extremely patient through the whole process, waiting his turn. And now that his time has come, he’s here with an extremely clear vision of what he wants in his room.
So let me show you what it is.
The Plan:
V is a sweet almost teen boy. Now that can be a paradox at times, but really.. he is! He is into gaming (a lot of the time) and studying (some of the time). He also sketches beautifully and plays the guitar.
I guess the creative bent of mind extends to space visualisation too, because he has a very clear picture of what he wants in his head.
This is the first time, when designing a space for a child, (let me change that to young adult, else I think he’ll object) that I have interacted with the young adult directly. Usually, the parents take over.
And surprisingly, it’s been easier this way. Whether it was a discussion on where his study table should go or choice of wallpaper, it took him a couple of minutes to make any decision. There was no thinking about it or going back and forth.
So, with clear and concise instructions from V, this is the plan we finalised.
The wardrobes come along the entrance wall of the room. The opposite wall has full length glass sliding doors through which you step into the balcony. That leaves 2 remaining walls along which we placed the bed and the study table, opposite each other.
The plan is simple enough.
Colours & Finishes:
Now comes the difficult part. The same plan can look like a hundred different rooms depending on what colours and style you prefer. Picking from various options and deciding on one usually takes a lot of discussion and debate. In our case, it was really easy.
V sent me these pics saying this is what he wants his room to look like.
I loved the moody teen bedroom vibe too and thought it was a great look to go with. I also thought adding some wooden accents would add a warm ambience to all the grey, which can start to look too cold.
We will eventually add patterns and textures to the grey and wood tones to make the room warm and exciting instead of cold and boring.
The Furniture:
Then we had to decide what kind of furniture we were looking for.
The bed was easy. If we’re going to do a grey wall and grey furnishings, we need the bed to be a warm wood tone to counter all that grey.
The wardrobes were easy for me too. These have been my fave wardrobes on Pinterest forever! A grey bedroom with wooden accents is just about the perfect kind of room to place these in and I crossed my fingers and toes that V would like them too. Because given how clear he is about everything, I knew a no would mean a ‘NO’. There would be no changing his mind.
As it happened, he loved them too.. and it was an immediate ‘Yes’.
Which then left his study table. With a grey wall and bed on one side and these heavy wardrobes on the other, I didn’t want the study to be overwhelming. I thought a simple platform with a little bit of storage would be just right.
To make it even lighter, we aren’t going to close all of the overhead above. A few concealed LED strips never hurt any space and we’ll be adding those to our study too.
Speaking of lighting, I thought some dramatic lighting would greatly help our textured wall behind the bed too. I think V will agree to a beautiful black track light to go above the bed.
With our layout frozen, furniture selected and finishes finalised, we wrapped up our design plans of our moody teen bedroom.
Will it turn out to be as moody, warm and cozy as we expect? Stay tuned to find out, and sign up here for updates so you don’t miss this reveal!
