Hi and welcome back. Hope you have been walking through ‘Shway’ with me over the last couple of weeks. Let us now move into the quieter areas of this graceful home.. the bedrooms. We have three bedrooms here – a master bedroom and one for each of the kids. You’ll see that all of them are in complete harmony with the home. We’ll take a look at the master bedroom of Shway today.
Master Bedroom of Shway
White, light, airy and graceful… this bedroom is about as dreamy as they come. The understated elegance of this home carries through into the master bedroom of Shway, as does the white and gold!
The Plan
The master bedroom of Shway is an average sized room. Yet we struggled a little with the layout, because it has windows along two walls instead of just one, and a beam running across on the window side of the room.
We didn’t want the bed coming below the beam. We didn’t want the window to be off centre from the bed. And we didn’t want the wardrobes blocking the way as you enter the room.
And so this is how we planned it.
The bed is centred to the window. (Well, almost. It’s a few inches to one side, but the curtains hide that quite easily and you would never be able to tell!) We added tiny bedside tables and wardrobes to both sides of the bed. This gives us so much space on either side and has the room looking open and spacious.
The wall opposite the bed is divided into two by the bathroom door. Towards the window side we added a storage unit, while the television fit on the other side of the door.
Finally, we placed a slim console into the offset at the entrance, making a convenient space to keep things as you enter and leave the room.
The Bed Wall
This is the longest wall in the room, against which we could place the bed. We couldn’t place the wardrobes on the wall to the left of the bed, as they would completely block the windows. If we placed them on the right wall, we would have to shift the bed leftwards. This would make the bed off centre from the window behind it, and halfway below the beam. We certainly didn’t want that.
So we placed the bed at the centre of this wall with a wardrobe on either side.
We also squeezed in a tiny bedside table on both sides, just large enough to place night time essentials close to the bed while sleeping.
The headboard runs from wardrobe to wardrobe, encompassing the bed and side tables. It holds all the little pieces together and helps to unify them and make the room look wider. The switchboards went into the headboard, giving easy access to charging points and bedside lights for each bed.
We also have a little pocket running behind the headboard into which the curtains sit easily.
The Opposite Wall
Opposite the bed, the bathroom door divides the wall into two. Below the beam and opposite the wardrobe, we placed a storage unit to match the wardrobes.
To the left of the bathroom door we have a simple shelf with the television placed above it.
We used the niche along the entrance wall by placing a slim console that almost fits inside it.
Look and Feel
As with the rest of Shway, white is the predominant colour of the master bedroom. Can you make out the powder blue embroidered leaves of the flowers on the window blind?
We chose to use that powder blue to add a little colour to the room. So we have a dash of blue in the quilt, pillow covers and the pretty embroidered cushions.
We also have a sprinkling of gold across the room in the handles, light fittings and the console table and the artwork frames above it.
As always, we use a final wave of our magic wand and scatter our pixie dust over the lighting to make our spaces even more enchanting.
Before and Afters
The before and afters are always the best way to see our magic.. so here are a few from the master bedroom of Shway!
The bed wall…
We centred the bed around the window and placed the wardrobes on either side of the bed.
The wall opposite the bed…
We have additional storage to the right of the bathroom door and the television to the left.
The offset along the entrance wall…
A slender console placed inside the niche adds useful table space for keeping things as you go in and out of the room.
We’ve used simple lines and gentle finishes in the master bedroom of Shway, in keeping with the rest of home. White continues to play the hero, making this a serene, restful space to unwind in. The gold finishes add a vibe of restrained luxury.
Can you feel the peaceful vibes of this bedroom by looking at these pics? While you are breathing in this calm air, remember to take in the rest of the tranquility of ‘Shway’ too, if you haven’t done so already. And do leave your questions and comments below.
We’ll walk through another of the gorgeous bedrooms next week.
Until then,
.
