Close your eyes, take a deep breath and hold for a few seconds.. Now slowly exhale and open your eyes. You are ready to experience the tranquility of the master bedroom of Manzil.
The Master Bedroom of Manzil
Walking into this bedroom is like stepping into an oasis of calm in our concrete jungle. Swaying leaves, blooming flowers, birds in the sky, soft lights and furniture that seems to blend in with nature. All of this, in the soft peaches and greens which set the colour scheme of the living room.
Let me show you how it all came together.
The Plan
The door to this bedroom opens into a small passageway, which is great in terms of privacy.
Since the windows are angular, the two adjacent walls are of different length. We placed the bed and side tables along the longer wall and the television along the shorter one opposite it.
The last remaining wall houses the full length of wardrobes.
The Bed Wall
As with most bedrooms, we have here a double bed with side tables on either side.
We had enough space to place a chair near the window. With its full length windows, this spot has an amazing view of the outside. It also makes a good seat to watch television.
The Wardrobes
On the other side of the bed, we have a wall full of wardrobes.
We have a his and her wardrobe on either side of the central linen storage.
We have used an unusual veneer here which almost looks like woven fabric.
I wasn’t happy with the idea of an off-centre handle for the central shutter. So we decided to do a completely different handle here to break the monotony and maintain the symmetry. The round handles on either side are separated by an intricately designed handle in the middle of the centre shutter.
The TV Wall
Opposite the bed, to the left of the wardrobes, comes the TV wall.
Since we’ve carried the wallpaper mural from behind the bed on to this wall too, we used a simple TV unit with only a row of drawers so as not to cover the wallpaper.
Dressing Area
To the right of the TV we have a large mirror for dressing.
The drawer right next to the mirror makes the dressing storage. We also have a sliding shelf hidden in the side of the TV unit which can give additional table space in front of the mirror if required.
The Wallpaper
The wallpaper is the hero in this room. It was designed specifically keeping in mind the furniture placement. So the birds and plants float around the furniture and fit flawlessly into the space.
On the TV wall too, the plants grow around the TV table on one end..
.. and peek in from behind the mirror on the other.
The delicately carved wooden headboard with the wicker back and the leaves carved on to the bedside tables, all augment the natural vibe.
The soft light of these bedside pendants adds an ethereal glow.
Look & Feel
We fell in love with the peaches and greens of the living room and decided to carry them into the master bedroom of Manzil too. Since the bedroom is more inspired by nature, we picked a green rug to start with in the bedroom, as opposed to the peach that we had in the living.
The background of the wallpaper took care of most of the peach, so our focus was mostly the greens.
We went for this exquisite floral cutwork bedcover in a neutral and layered it with beautiful emerald green cushions.
The grey and white chair upholstery was love at first sight for the client. We balanced that grey with the grey throw on the bed.
Before and Afters
Let’s wrap up the reveal of the master bedroom of Manzil with my favourite part, the before and afters.
The first view of the bedroom as you walk in is this corner.
The glorious wallpaper completely transforms this bedroom into an oasis of beauty and serenity.
Here’s a view of the opposite corner.
Where we have the wardrobe lining the entire wall on the left side of the bed.
And finally the wall opposite the bed…
Where we have the TV unit and the dressing mirror.
Get The Look
This room is wholly inspired by nature and has an innate charm and sense of calm around it. Here are a few of the things that helped us make it that way.
| – 1 – Custom Wallpaper | – 2 – Pi accent chair | – 3 – Black and white knit throw | – 4 – Ikkat aari cushion cover | – 5 – Shyrdak cushion cover | – 6 – Green lumbar cushion cover | – 7 – Aasia applique bedcover | – 8 – Kilan smoke blue rug |
Here’s a place to relax and unwind at the end of a long day. A place to step out from the chaos of the concrete jungle around you, into a make believe sense of being surrounded by nature. Here’s a refuge from all of the outside world. A place to spend the few hours that are entirely yours in peace and beauty, to truly rejuvenate.
