From the bright and bold foyer and living room, it’s time to move into the quieter and more private areas of this home, the bedrooms. Though these spaces are also full of life and colour, the impact if gentler and more subtle. We’ll start with a tour of the master bedroom of Daastan today, and you’ll see what I mean.

Master Bedroom of Daastan

The master bedroom of Daastan is a good sized space. It has a whole lot of natural light streaming in thanks to the almost full length ‘L’ shaped windows on the far end. In addition, there is a smaller window on the perpendicular wall, which also helps in cross ventilation.

Not only is it the largest bedroom of the home, it is also the only one with a separate walk-in area near the bathroom. Which means, we don’t even need to put wardrobes in the room. This makes the bedroom look even larger and more spacious.

We did full justice to this open, airy room, by enhancing its open, airy vibe.

The Plan

The little passageway as you step into the room gives the bedroom a natural privacy shield. We placed the bed on the facing wall so that the headboard fit fully on the wall and didn’t overlap with the window.

There is a bedside table on one side of the bed and a study table on the other. The study table is placed below the window and also doubles as a bedside table.

Opposite the bed, a large chest of drawers provides additional storage. It also doubles as a side table for the comfortable chair next to it.

Here’s how all of this turned out.

The Passageway

The clients had a lot of family photographs they wanted to display and the plain wall of this passageway seemed like an ideal place for them. The door to the walk-in-closet opens just opposite. So not only is this a great view when you are stepping out of the walk-in-closet, but these photographs also reflect into the mirror opposite and make a great view as you enter it.

The Bed Wall

Though the corner window on the left if a continuation of the long window perpendicular to it, you can’t really make that out on first look. We treated it the same way as the window on the right side of the bed, so it looks paired with it.

We couldn’t place the bed exactly in the centre of the wall between the windows. It would have made the bed too close to the window with little open space to walk around it. So we treated both sides similarly to bring in symmetry in that way. The blinds on both the windows and the pendants on either side help to even out the space even though it is asymmetrical.

To the right of the bed, we have the study table. And yet again, we managed to place it in our favourite place.. right near a window!

On the left side we easily fit in a regular bedside table.

The Opposite Wall

Opposite the bed we have a large chest of drawers. Since the wardrobes are not inside the bedroom itself, it always helps to have some storage space to keep things handy.

We could fit in an ample lounge chair in the spacious corner between the chest of drawers and the window. Who ever complained of a seat with a view?

We have provided for television points above the drawers if the client wants a television in the bedroom in the future. The didn’t feel the need currently, and so we put up artwork painted by the client on the wall above. The artwork also conveniently hides the television points behind.

Look and Feel

The client’s favourite colour is blue, which is why we picked it for the master bedroom. We started the furnishing selections here with this beautiful rug. Brown and beige with the blue is an unusual combination, and looks gloriously rich. It’s also super easy to work with since the brown automatically blends beautifully with the wood tones used in the room.

And though we used a single colour here, as opposed to the many bold hues in the living room we used some bright tones and lots of pretty patterns and motifs in keeping with the vibrant vibe of the living area.

Which is why the base fabrics of all the furniture is plain.. to enhance the patterns that go on it. So the bedcover is a solid blue with a self pattern woven into the fabric.

The study chair is a plain blue too, as is the inky blue velvet of the corner chair. These plain furnishings make a beautiful base for all the pretty cushions, the lovely pattern on the headboard and the delicate motif on the curtains.

Before and Afters

Here’s a view of the entrance passage before…

Clearing out all the furniture along the passage makes it look open and spacious. And I love the photo gallery on the wall to the left.

The main bed wall..

Making the walls and furnishing lighter opens up the space and makes it so much brighter.

The study corner…

Instead of using that area for storage, we placed the study table below the window. It clears out the view from the entrance, as you saw in the before-after above. Near the window is also our favourite place for study tables!

The wall opposite the bed..

Our wardrobes and dressing went into the walk-in-closet (which you can see right here next week). So we now have a seating nook with a chest of drawers for additional storage.

Get the Look

Now for some of the pretty things that went into making the master bedroom of Daastan. You’ll find links to them below.

Our aim for the master bedroom of Daastan was to make a restful space for the clients while keeping with the vibrant vibe of the home. Blue is a calming and tranquil colour as it is, so the first part was easy. We also wanted this space to be lively and cheerful like the rest of the home. Adding a few bright tones to the lighter blues and mixing in various patterns and motifs helped us achieve that.

I think we managed to balance both our requirements really well, and this beautiful bedroom is the result.

Do you agree? Let me know in the comments below. And remember to check in again next week for a look at the walk-in-closet and master bathroom.

Until then,
