If you’ve had a chance to catch your breath after seeing the stunning entrance and bar of this home, today I’ll take you for a tour of the living and dining room of Falak Azura.
Living and Dining Room of Falak Azura
Handsome bookshelves with striking artwork, lovely lighting atop a splendid dining table, a stunning display unit that turns into a mandir in the blink of an eye. A spectacular TV wall, large windows that let the blue skies right in and a window seat to enjoy a view of them at any time. Vibrant reds.. and, as always, the beautiful blues that inspire the name of this project. And a swing to sit back and take this all in.
The living and dining room of Falak Azura will quite literally have you gaping with dropped jaw everywhere that you look!
But first, to help you understand how everything I mentioned above fits into this amazing space, let’s start with the plan.
The Plan
You saw the entrance and bar of this home last week. Now let’s take a step further, into the living and dining room of Falak Azura.
Sincce we broke down the walls of the foyer and opened it out, standing at the door you get a full view of the living and dining space. The wall right opposite the door divides the large windows into two parts. We designed a beautiful bookshelf on this wall, along with a cozy window seat for reading to its left. The living space is spread evenly between the foyer and this bookshelf.
To the right, and opposite the kitchen, we have the dining area. The large sideboard to the right of the dining table houses all the crockery and dining requirements.
Against the kitchen wall, we have a unit which serves as a display cum mandir unit.
Let me show all of these to you, one at a time.
The Reading Corner
Standing at the main door, you see these beautiful bookshelves straight ahead of you.
That large wall divides the long window into two. We used the divide to treat both of the windows completely differently.
To the right of the bookshelves we have beautiful drapes on the window, as we would on any other.
To the left, we continued the lowermost bookshelf all the way up to the TV wall. This shelf can carry books across the entire length of the unit.
A mattress on top of this makes for a perfect reading seat by the window, with the books readily available just under the seat. The wood paneling all around it adds to the cozy vibe.
The shelves themselves are not your regular straight shelves. They make a delightful pattern themselves and I love how it allows decor pieces of various heights to be placed in an interesting way. We also left that large square in the centre deliberately, to allow us to place some artwork there. It makes for quite a show stopper, doesn’t it?
The TV Wall
To the left of the reading corner, we have the television with a patterned the wall behind it. I love the interplay of all the beautiful textures we have here, along with the pattern.
The wooden panels on either side make a great contrast for the white pattern to shine against. While the panel on the right is a plain wood finish, the on the left is a fluted panel. This also conceals a pocket behind it, into which the sliding door of the passage fits in.
Here’s a view of the main door and foyer on the left, to help you get a lay of the land.
And a view of the entire living space, with the entrance to the left, the bookshelves to the right, the television in the front and all the seating going around it.
The Dining Area
Behind the sofa, on the other side of this large space, we have the dining area.
The beautiful dining table lies in the centre of this space, with the sofa on one side and the sideboard against the wall on the other.
We used a large mirror panel. It not only doubles up the space…
… but also reflects all of the beauty of the opposite side!
The Mandir
The client wanted to place their mandir in the dining area, but also wanted to keep it private when they are entertaining. We designed this unit behind the dining table to do just that.
It’s divided into four equal parts, with the two shutters covering half of it at any given point. When the shutters are in the centre, you can only see the display shelves on the side. When you slide the shutters outwards, they open up to reveal the mandir in the centre.
Look and Feel
The clients’ favourite colour is most definitely blue. They also wanted to add a bright vibrancy to the living room, and what better colour than red to do that. So we started off with this striking blue and red rug.
We then sprinkled these reds and blues across the various furniture pieces of the living room. A bright, patterned fabric went on the smaller chairs, with the sofa largely being beige, with red and blue cushions thrown on to add the colour.
The dining area focuses more on the reds. Using two fabrics on the chairs instead of one has completely upped the vibe of this space.
You can see how the colours flow effortlessly across this space, making it look vibrant and well composed.
Lighting always plays a large part in our design, and these pendants add all the subtle drama we need here.
Before and Afters
There’s nothing like before and afters to show just how dramatic a transformation is, so I’m quite thrilled to be sharing these from the living and dining room of Falak Azura.
The wall right in front as you step into the home.
We designed a beautiful bookshelf on the wall along with a reading nook by the window next to it.
A view of the living area…
With the television on one side, the bookshelf next to it, and comfortable seating running right around.
Next a view of the dining area…
The stunning dining set with the lights above it, looking doubly nice reflecting into the mirror panel on the wall.
And finally, the long passageway running along the dining and living areas…
You can see how beautifully the entrance, foyer, bar, living and dining areas are connected to each other.
