The guest room of Daastan is one of my favourite spaces in this gorgeous home. In a home that is bursting with colour, we did colour in this room in a completely different way. I would say this room is saturated in colour. Let’s step inside so I can show you what I mean.
Guest Room of Daastan
‘Guest Room’ is not quite the right description for this room, because this space is much more than that. Yes, it’s a warm, inviting, comfortable space for guests when they are over, but it also serves the family well when there are no guests. This room also serves as the family room and home office.
The Plan
The plan of the guest room of Daastan is quite simple. As you enter, we have the sofa cum bed along the centre of the facing wall. The opposite wall has a built-in-unit going from floor to ceiling and end to end. It includes the TV unit, the study table and display and bookshelves.
A large window extends across almost the entire third wall, which makes the last remaining wall the only space for us to put in the wardrobes.
Though the plan is simple and easy, it’s how we brought it to life that made all the difference in this room. Let’s take a look.
The Sofa Wall
With the wardrobes going into the left corner, what remains of this wall is the solid section in the centre, flanked with windows on both sides. The wall is almost exactly the size of our sofa cum bed and so the symmetry of the space as you enter it is really quite beautiful.
We placed an end table towards the window side of the sofa. We avoided it on the other side since it would get in the way of opening the wardrobe.
An asymmetrical coffee table placed in the centre breaks the symmetry and adds some spunk to the space.
The Wall Unit
Exactly opposite the sofa-cum-bed is our multifunctional wall unit. It includes the TV unit, the study table and lots and lots of bookshelves for this family that loves reading.
We kept the TV unit lower than the study table so that when the larger television comes in, it stays at eye level and is not too high for comfortable viewing.
The Wardrobes
The wardrobes fit in neatly between the door to the bathroom on one side and the window on the other. They are full sized wardrobes so that they not only provide space for guests but also extra storage space to the home owners.
I think with this photograph you will also get an idea as to what I meant by colour saturation.
Look and Feel
Can you see it now? From floor and walls to ceiling, there is no white surface in this room. It’s the first time I’ve tried out something like this and so was a little hesitant, but also very excited about how it would turn out. I have the best clients ever though. They showed no hesitation at all and were happy to go with this when I suggested it. And I am so glad they did!
We picked this gorgeous deep blue and beige combination and decided to use these colours through the entire room. A wooden chair rail moulding running all around the room separates the two colours.
We used the beautiful blue below the chair rail and the soothing beige above it… and then took the beige all the way on to the ceiling too. The sofa had to be a beige to stand out against the blue.
The doors and the door frames were not spared either. They all went half and half to keep the continuity of our colours right across.
The TV wall is the only one which is a single colour. Since we already had the shelves dividing this wall into different sections, we didn’t want to add another break with the two colours. We already have a wooden moulding running across the room, so we used the same wood tone on the shelves. Notice how we painted the AC to match the wall too.
Finally, we lit up the shelves so they make an entirely new kind of magic in the evenings.
This is one of the rare cases where I didn’t start the colour scheme of the room with the rug. Here the rug was one of our last selections, much after the room colours had been decided. This beige and grey rug is just perfect for the space.
Before and Afters
Let’s take a look at some before and afters from the guest room of Daastan, because this one is quite an amazing transformation.
The first thing you see as you enter the room, is the sofa wall.
We opted for a sofa-cum-bed instead of a full sized bed, so that the room can be used more easily by the homeowners even when they are not hosting house guests.
The wall opposite…
We designed this single, multifunctional unit across the entire wall to check the all the boxes from the clients’ requirement list. It serve as their TV unit, study and home library, and helps make this room a space they can all hang out in together.
The wardrobe wall…
The colours from the wall continue on to the wardrobes and back on to the wall again. This helps them to blend beautifully into the space. The wooden handles match the moulding that’s running right below them.
Get The Look
The heroes of this room are its colours. They are what give this room its character and vibe. All the other pieces are the supporting cast. But you must agree, that the supporting cast has done a great job here too. Here are links to a few of them.

You know how much I love using colour, and I was really excited about experimenting with colours in a new way. I think I’m going to call this colour saturation, coz I am thrilled with how it turned out and I will definitely use it again.
Are you with me? Did you love this room or not? Do you think we should colour saturate more rooms in the future? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
We only have one more room of Daastan left to reveal, but I think you’ll agree with me that it is way too hot to work. So I am off on a short vacation and will be taking a break from the blog too. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks with the kitchen of Daastan. In the meanwhile, I hope you’ve seen the rest of this beautiful home. If not, click here to see it all, and I’ll be back soon.
Until next time,
.
