Next, on this home tour, comes the girls’ room of Manzil. This room is all sugar and spice, and everything nice, just like the two sisters who share it. Remember how the master bedroom took the greens from the living room while ignoring the peaches? We’ve carried the peaches from the living room into this space and avoided the greens in here.
The jute rug and cane lamps also carry some of the living room’s natural aura into this room. Yet overall this space has a younger and more bohemian vibe to it than the rest of the home.
The Plan
The angled walls of the room made it a little difficult to design, but in the end we managed to fit in everything we need and make it look pretty.
The wardrobe fits perfectly into the niche on the right side of the door. We switched from an openable to a sliding door so that it doesn’t block the wardrobe or the passageway.
The main bedroom area starts off wider as you enter and then narrows down towards the window. We laid the bed against the wider wall and the study tables further near the windows.
On the opposite wall we have a large storage area. The girls have only a single wardrobe between them, which will take care of their hanging space. This large cupboard space provides all the extra storage they need to make up for the small wardrobe.
The Bed Wall
The bed lies along the corner just as you enter the bedroom. Since the storage unit lies on the opposite wall, a passageway is formed between the bed and the storage units. We kept the bed height really low so as not to accentuate this passageway.
We’ve used cushions on hooks for a headboard so that the bed is not too structured and looks light on the eyes.
The Study Area
Just off the bed we have the study area. It’s a long table to seat two comfortably.
Since it’s near the window we have a whole lot of natural light to keep it well lit.
There is a set of drawers, including a printer tray, between the two tables.
This pair of pretty, carved frames make a soft board for each of the girls.
We got these cane lamps from a local vendor and DIY-ed the tassels on to them. I love how they add whimsy to the room, while also lighting up the study area brightly.
The Storage Areas
At the far end you can see the mirror paneled shutters of the wardrobe near the entrance door.
Inside the bedroom, opposite the bed is a narrower row of cupboards for extra storage.
The dressing area also neatly fits in here, between the storage units.
The Dressing Area
The storage unit has 5 arched shutters. We paneled the one in the centre with a mirror and kept it at half depth only.
This way, it has storage space with shelves behind the mirror shutter, and an open shelf in front that makes a dressing table.
The illuminated arch looks super pretty, and gives just the right light for dressing.
Girls’ Room of Manzil
As you must have noticed already, arches dominate this room. These gigantic arches in the bed corner set the mood of the space in terms of design and colour.
I also love how the circles around the arches are replicated across the room. For instance, did you notice the round cushion on the bed with the round pom poms around it? Doesn’t it remind you of the arches?
Or the round hooks on the wall with the circular bases and circles at the tips?
And of course, this cute jute rug with the rows of circles running all around it.
The second element that dominates this room, is the colour peach.
From the plain shades on the wall arches, we went for stripes on the bedcover, checks on the headboard cushions, a geometric pattern on the throw and pretty prints on the curtains and chair upholstery.
So even though it’s a single colour running through the room, it’s neither boring nor monotonous.
Before and Afters
And now, to give you a true sense of the makeover, here are a few before and afters.
The bed and entrance wall of the room.
The bed fits snugly into the corner. Adding mirrors to the wardrobe shutters makes the entryway look so much bigger.
The study corner of the room.
The study table is fits neatly between the bed and the window. You can tell how low the bed is by comparing it to the height of the table.
The opposite corner of the window..
Fits an entire row of storage space, including a dressing area.
And finally the bed corner..
The arches running across the corner, instead of along one wall, encompass the bed into a warm hug and make a cozy nook.
