And finally, the last space left to share from our beautiful Mid Century Modern Home. Here is the bold blue boy’s room reveal.
The Plan
Though you can click here for the plan details that I shared in the intro post of this room, I’ll do a quick walk through here to again to begin.
If you’ve seen the other boy’s bed room that I shared last time, you’ll notice that the both bedrooms are mirror images of each other. Both rooms are for single boys who have just started working and so have similar requirements.
The simplest thing to do would be to plan the layout of any one room and then mirror it on to the other.
But the client wanted a vastu compliant home, and mirroring furniture also means mirroring the direction it faces. This didn’t work for us at all.
So we re-planned this room, with the bed pushed to the corner and the study table in front of it.
Since there was no place to keep a bedside table, we created a niche along the entire length of that wall to serve as a side table for the bed.
The only thing that remains identical to the other boy’s room is the TV panel. The wall between the doors to the bathroom and walk-in-closet is the best place for the TV even in this room. And except for using a different wallpaper, we’ve made pretty much the exact same unit for both.
The Bed Wall
The bed had to face outwards, towards the balcony, and so we had no choice when it came to the position of the bed in this room.
You can see how the queen size bed fills up that wall, leaving no space for a bedside table. We placed our reading lamp on the wall and framed this lovely embroidery belonging to the client to use as wall art.
The Niche
We thought this niche would compensate for the absence of a side table beautifully. It gives a little space along the bed to keep a cell phone, book or glass of water. We made sure to give a charging point for the phone on its side wall.
The niche gives similar added shelf space in front of the study table, which always comes handy.
And then, most importantly, it brings a certain cohesiveness to that wall. Honestly, that bed and study table are are quite oddly placed. I mean who places a study table at the foot of a bed?! Yet, that niche nicely ties up the two pieces of furniture.
This view, which could have looked like a big mistake, actually looks good!
The Study Table
Our ‘boy’ is a young, working man now and so requires a desk only to be able to keep his laptop to work. We’ve already seen above how this desk anyway isn’t in an ideal position.
We thought a light table, easy on the eye, would be perfect for this space, and this one is a beauty. It’s a good size table and the large, stylish drawer takes care of all the odds and ends neatly.
We reupholstered this vintage chair that has been with the client for many years. I love how the upholstery runs down its legs.
The TV Wall
If you’ve seen the other boy’s room, you will immediately notice that the TV paneling is exactly the same in both rooms. In both cases, though this wall was the best place to position the televisions, it came directly in front of the entrance door to the room. We didn’t want to block the entryway with a TV unit, and this panel was the best solution.
We only used a different wallpaper to go with the colour scheme of this room and I think this one looks just as gorgeous as the other.
The Walk-in-Closet
Another area of this bedroom which is an exact mirror image of the other is the area designated for the walk-in-closet. Though at 4′-6″ x 5′-6″ it is really tiny, I still love that we didn’t have to place wardrobes in the bedrooms.
We used simple ‘L’ shaped storage with sliding-folding shutters opening towards the ends of the ‘L’.
The Balcony
Which brings us to this lovely balcony with a mind-blowing view. This charming cane chair paired with the perfectly sized table, both again belonging to the client from before, were all we needed to make it a comfortable place to hang out.
It shares a common wall with the living room balcony. The plan is to place a trellis between the two, covered with flowering creepers. This will ensure privacy to both the spaces.
Bold Blue Boy’s Room Reveal
Our young man was happy to go with blue in his room, and so were we.
We started with this gentle rug in beautiful shades of blue.
Since the wallpaper was going to go right across one wall, we decided to go light with it. This barely-there shibori pattern on white added just the right hint of colour and pattern.
With both the rug and the wallpaper being light, we decided to go bolder with the curtains. You can see how they come to life against the light wallpaper in front, and the soft sheers behind them.
We also used a bold pattern on the study chair. How could we let the upholstery running down the legs fade out without making a statement?
Which left the bedding. All white, with an embroidered trim, and a few cushions to add a pop of colour, completed the look.
And so we have a room that is exciting to the eye, yet calming to the soul…
… with a view to die for, whether you look inside or out!

This bold blue boy’s room reveal was the last remaining space to share from our mid century modern home.
This is one of the longest projects I’ve worked on, largely due to the lockdown. But going through all the pictures of this beautiful home makes me realise it was time spent well.
